Mated To The Demon Prince-Chapter 68: Be So Proud
It came as a shock when Evangeline heard her brothers wanted to talk to her on the night before she would be going against them. She blinked multiple times even cleaning her ears to make sure she heard the maids right when they came to her room for the summon.
She still couldn’t imagine it as they helped her get into one of those oversized puffy blue and white fur winter coats.
She thought they hated her down to her shadow.
Why want to talk to her?
What do they have to talk to her about?
Why won’t her legs move?
Evangeline wiped the trace of sweat pouring on her forehead with the back of her hand as she had never felt this type of anxiety before.
They were her brothers.
They shouldn’t be this scary as she is making them to be.
I would be fine.
That was what she thought until the doors to the main library was opened, and she locked eyes with the two of them, Ezekiel and Ash. Her heart dropped like a plopping sound, and she considered turning back.
Their smiles were so fake that it scared her so much. She slowly walked up to where they were both seated wondering where Zayne was, or he wasn’t that fake to sit and grin at the enemy.
’’Evangeline,’’ Ash was the first to rise from his seat, his tall frame overpowering her like a moving shadow on the wall. She stiffened when he enveloped her into a hug and placed a small loving kiss on her forehead.
She stared at him like he was a stranger. Well, technically, he is one. All of them.
The way he smiled down at her was not encouraging for her to fake her smile as well. She looked at them with unease, and the tension was impossible when she heard the faint sound of the library doors closing behind her.
That’s it.
She was trapped with them.
They could kill her now if they wanted.
’’Brother, don’t keep our dear sister standing for long. Come, bring her over and let her dine with us.’’
It was true. Evangeline’s eyes widened at the little feast prepared for them at the round table in-between four chairs.
But why have a feast here in the library, one of the most secluded parts of the castle, and not in the dinning area?
She was already getting bad vibes about this little family get-together.
They pulled a chair out for her before an empty one and began to serve her a portion of something that looked so tasty.
’’We’ve already told mother and father to exclude us from today’s family dinner as we would be having ours—just us siblings tonight to bond more.’’
Ezekiel said, causing her to nod awkwardly at him.
’’Zayne would be joining us shortly as he went to arrange us cups of tea.’’
Tea?
It’s been awfully long since she’d had one.
’’So, while we wait for him,’’ Evangeline turned her head towards Ash’s direction. The candles before him giving his handsome facial structures an ethereal glow, unlike Ezekiel and Zayne, that looked too masculine.
Ash took the most of dad’s genes. She observed as she looked closely.
’’I want us to see this night as the night we both set our differences aside and start acting like siblings should do.’’
’’Absolutely, Eva.’’ Her neck moved to acknowledge the next speaker, Ezekiel. ’’We are no longer children but now adults with mates...or ex-mates as the case, maybe.’’ He sat up and cleared his throat. ’’We were all happy when you aged recently to an adult, and we feel it is only teenage siblings that would be behaving as we do. Keeping malice, going after each other’s throats and wishing the other dead in the heart. It is childish and unethical.’’
The silence after his words was replaced by the fast pounding of her heart in her chest. She does not understand why her heart was growing so restless with each second that passed by.
’’That is why, I, the eldest of the four of us, has decided to heed to mother’s ancient advice that we should be one.’’
They all turned in their seats to lock eyes with their brother standing with his arms crossed over his broad chest. It was obvious in his eyes that he wasn’t happy to see her in their midst, but there was something within him that kept telling him to get on with it. To move on with the flow.
’’Grandmother supreme, I paid her a visit yesterday evening, and she gave me a reading,’’ Zayne settled on his seat. ’’It was a simple one that says good fortune will befall us the moment we make peace with the ones we hate the most.’’
She stared at him, all the while thinking it would be wise if she’d just listened and go with the flow if she wanted to return to her room as she came.
’’We are ready to forget the fact that you killed Anya to make this new relationship between us work.’’
Her body almost fell of the chair on its own that they knew about a crime she saw she committed but didn’t fully understand why. She gazed at each one of their stony faces in disbelief. Her mouth suddenly went dry, and it was crazier when they were so calm about this.
’’We would see it as a mistake from now on because who doesn’t make mistakes?’’
Yeah, of course. But not murdering your innocent sibling because you thought she could rise to become your greatest competitor in all area. So, it is best to kill her now that she is younger than waiting until she is older, stronger, and wiser.
The tension that circulated in-between them remained ever present, her heart still beating, wondering what the end-result of this meeting would be. It lifted a bit when the doors reopened to reveal a maid strolling in with a silver tray. For some odd reasons, the maid had her eyes fixed on her the entire time before placing the tray in-between them. Evangeline stared as the maid silently gave each of them a cup before bowing her head to stand not to far from them by a corner.
What if the tea is poisoned?
Evangeline gulped as she stared at the faces of her brothers who were also staring at the cups before them. Maybe wondering the same thing?
Is it safe to assume their hatred is not yet deep to the point of secretly poisoning each other? She would have a taste after a few minutes of them finishing theirs.
Evangeline moved her hands away from the cup and leaned back on her seat.
It’s also wise not to touch any other thing on this table too.
She nodded her head.
Prince Zayne was the first to lift his cup to take a small sip, followed by Ash and then Ezekiel. She watched them all closely and decided to have a sip as well since none of them have started reacting to whatever poison must be served along with the tea.
It didn’t taste funny, and it moved easily down her throat. She relaxed back on her seat and watched Zayne smiled at her from the corner of his lips.
Did you all see how she picked her cup with her left instead of her right?
Yes, we all did brother.
They conversed through the mind link he formed between them three.
When they were observing her weirdly, she started having second thoughts of the probability of being tricked into drinking something that must have been lethal. A sick feeling began to build up in the pit of her stomach and she had this overwhelming urge to leave. To force herself to vomit whatever she must have consumed.
’’I made sure they prepared your favorite tea Eva.’’
She tried to match his smile with a genuine one while she brainstormed how she was going to be leaving this place.
’’Now, we eat and celebrate us and the day we became closer as we are one!’’ They smiled at one another and began to eat whatever was before them.
Evangeline moved in her seat before asking with discomfort on her face, ’’Can I...be excused for a moment?’’
The way Zayne gave her the creepiest amused smile had her bones shivering in fear like ripples on the surface of water. His eyes darkening as he leaned both of his hands on the table.
’’Of course. But please be back as we still have a lot to do with you.’’
’’Yeah, sure.’’ She nodded as she rose to her feet and began to leave as fast as she could.
The moment she was out of the door. They released the hold they had on their laughter while trying to ignore the slight burn in their chest and the numbing sensation in their muscles.
’’Who would have thought it would be too easy?’’ Ash laughed out as blood trickled down his nose like mucus. Ezekiel trying to keep the itching sensation around his neck at bay with his claws. All while remaining calm and awaiting the good news of their sister being struck overnight by paralysis.
’’Zayne, you are a genius!’’
Ezekiel nodded as he moved down to itch on his palms staring down confused as the veins around his hands began to darken, and the burning sensation felt unbearable.
’’I still can’t believe she fell for that so easily. The Evangeline I know would never consider being in the same room with us.’’
Zayne picked up his tea cup to have the last sip of the liquid after saying, ’’I told you she is no longer herself again so it is wise to take advantage of it.’’ He chuckled before bringing the content to his lip and drowning it all. It didn’t take long before the first prince spat out blood on their half-eaten meal and began to convulse, falling off the table in the process.
’’Zayne!!!!’’
They fell on the floor before him to stop him from clawing his flesh out in response to the agony he was in.
His screams muffled with the blood pooling out from his lips as he shook uncontrollably like he had epilepsy.
’’Quick! You! Get help immediately!’’ Ash shouted to the maid watching them suffer like the losers they were on the floor with a blank look.
Ezekiel was seen tearing of his clothes as those dark network of veins were slowly overwhelming every inch of his skin. He fell to the floor beside his brother to join in the same fate. Ash could be seen confused with tears streaming down his face in horror at what was happening to his brothers. He turned to the maid he had just ordered to get help and was pissed to see her still standing there and regarding them with that same blank look.
He rose to his feet and approached her with an angered look as blood from his nose pooled out nonstop and trickled down the side of his mouth.
’’Didn’t you just hear what I just told you to do?’’
Evelyn stared at the third prince with a crazed smile.
Master would be so proud if I told him this.
The sudden transition of the maids upper body to the form of an enormous snake had his blood running cold from the crown of his head to the sole of his feet. Blood was flying everywhere in the library in a blink of an eye as Ash headless body fell beside his brother’s now lifeless ones.
Evelyn let go of the silver tray as she walked out of the library. The head of the third prince should do for now. If not that her venom might have contaminated the entirety of their body, she might have considered devouring their body whole.
