Mated To The Demon Prince-Chapter 69: Worthy
’’They were poisoned, alpha king. I suspect they all ingested a snake’s venom I have never studied before.’’
The physician said before the alpha king. A pale old man that could be mistaken for Gandalf in the movie, Lord of the Rings. The one seated on the throne reserved for the alpha king clenched his hands in regret.
He had just lost three of his sons overnight by poison. And how to be strong in this situation was far from him. He could see the sympathetic stares his ministers and the other alphas he governed over gave him from across the courtroom. It was obvious what they thought about him from his looks.
Which wolf would be insane enough to continue with his alpha duties the next day after loosing three of his pups the night before mysteriously?
He knows how dangerous it would be for them if he should set some days aside to mourn. The enemy might take advantage of this moment of weakness, and they will be conquered once again.
It wasn’t impossible that it was the enemy that orchestrated this. In his vain attempts to weaken him while they lay patiently in their dungeons to strike again.
He has already sworn on the crown of his head never to let his people go through such traumatic events again in the hands of the demon prince. He would remain unshaken as expected of him even though it hurts like being flogged repeatedly by burning chains.
’’Those demonic bastards,’’
His eyes moved to one of his court ministers, Adrian.
’’Think they could get away with murdering our princes’ overnight with poison? We could not even find the head of Prince Ash—’’ The minister standing beside Adrian bumped his shoulder with his, telling him to say no more. He noticed the Alpha’s Kings head lowering in disappointment.
If he could not protect his family from those dungeon demons, then how more of his people?
Should he still keep deceiving them to uphold the faith they have in him?
Is he worthy of being their Alpha King?
Alpha Adrian decided to keep his mouth shut after clearing his throat.
The Alpha king closed his eyes as he fell into a well of gripping thoughts while also trying to suppress his headache. His family was drowning deeper and deeper into the mud.
First he lost his youngest child all because of a demon not too long ago.
He lost his brother to the demons and now his three sons in the most horrific way ever.
He couldn’t imagine who would be next?
His daughter? His Mate? Or himself?
A tear slipped from his eyes as he bit down hard on his lips. They left the room the moment they noticed he was putting on a strong act because he wasn’t alone. So, they left him to let it all out as it was okay to be weak at times.
Even if you are next in line to the moon god in terms of power and influence.
A small sob escaped his lips as he fell apart the moment the doors to the courtroom closed to show he was now alone.
Where did he go wrong?
What has he done to deserve this?
Why is there still the ever-present presence of this evil?
They had done nothing to him to deserve all this.
When will it end?
He cried with no one but the empty room and walls to listen to his pain.

Evangeline flinched back at the loud cry that came from that same room she has been hesitating to enter for the past half an hour now. She would rather not imagine the chaos happening in there. It’s been seven hours since her brothers has been confirmed dead and buried. She threw up several times knowing they were attacked and died the moment she left.
Ash didn’t have a head when they gathered to bury him and her other elder brothers had these terrible skin color that is considered abnormal for a dead person. She didn’t see her mother or father present when they were being lowered to the ground. Only grandmother supreme that came to say some farewell prayers to them before leaving.
Layla and Sisi had been such great comfort to her since it happened. Even Vesta tried her best not to give her any lonely time to start overthinking again.
Although she didn’t spend enough time to know them or have any particular bond with them. But the state of their deaths was enough to make any stone hearted person to fall on their knees and weep.
She felt sad they had to die like that. No one deserves to be poisoned or beheaded. No matter what.
The person who had been bearing the blame of their unfortunate deaths since it happened were the demons and the demon prince. It’s like every unfortunate event is pinned on him. Although it wasn’t impossible for him not to be responsible for murdering the children of the Alpha King like that.
It was truly sad no one could do anything about it.
She didn’t know people still cared about her brothers more than they pretend not to do. It surprised her when many people showed up to pay their last respects to the brothers. Even some of their family members faces were mournful and heartbreaking.
She couldn’t imagine what their mates might be going through after being told what happened.
The cry that sounded from that room was sufficient to make the walls around her quake. It was painful and disheartening. No one should go through such.
’’Eva?’’ 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
The door to that room opened to reveal her aunt, the mother of Layla and Sisi stepping out of it and looking surprised to see her.
’’Sweetheart, why are you standing out here all alone? Is something wrong?’’ She was pulled into her arms as they locked eyes with each other. Evangeline wondered how many times she’d cried for her eyes to be that red.
