Mated To The Demon Prince-Chapter 70: Message
’’Is...mom...’’
Her aunt shook her head slowly at her—tears welling up in her eyes as she told her the Queen Luna would not be recovering anytime soon from this shock.
’’Can I...’’
’’Of course, love.’’
They both entered the room of the Queen Luna, which was crowded with many mourners as her mother sat on the bed sobbing her heart out nonstop.
This act scared Evangeline enough to make her pause in her tracks at the door and decided to observe from there.
’’Why...why...why is my womb cursed?’’
’’No–no, no. Stop saying that Astha! Your womb is not cursed. How many times would we make you understand this?’’
Her mother shook her head in disagreement insisting her womb must have been cursed.
’’It wouldn’t be long enough before I lose all I have left and be left with nothing,’’ She cried, causing the people around her to shake their heads and weep along with her as she rocked back and forth on the bed.
’’I am the queen Luna and the mate of the alpha king! I am supposed to be the mother of all nations. I should be fruitful and produce my people as many heirs as possible,’’ She sobbed out as she held her chest in great pain. Saying both that made and did not make sense from her mouth. It was obvious her mother was no longer herself at this point.
’’I shouldn’t give birth to pups that have no substance or aren’t blessed with the long life of an immortal. What kind of leader lays bad eggs and expect to be favored by the goddess. I am...’’ She choked on a sob, closing her eyes tight shut as she tried to understand this pain seizing her up to her being. ’’I am... I am indeed unworthy.’’
Evangeline couldn’t bear it anymore and decided to leave with tears of her streaming down her cheeks.
What would happen if they find out about the real truth behind Anya’s death? And could it really be a demon that snuck up to the castle last night to get rid of her brothers?
Would she have been a victim as well if she did not excuse herself? Or was the killer only intentional about killing her brothers?
What happened to them after she left?
’’Eva!!!’’
She turned around to see both Layla and Sisi running towards her. They each embraced her before asking if she was alright.
’’You still haven’t eaten anything, have you?’’
Evangeline shook her head. How could she when even the cooks were in a bad mood and no one around her was having that appetite for food?
’’I’ll eat something the moment mom calms down.’’
They both sighed and turned to the direction of the Queen’s room with a heavy look.
Not all surprises are good. Especially the one that makes you realize you’ve lost almost all the children you labored over for years. And it is not encouraging to start over.
’’But who could have done such a thing to your brothers? I admit they weren’t the most admired wolves among us, but they haven’t earned themselves any enemy that will want to come for their lives.’’
’’Dad said this morning that they were poisoned and assassinated by an agent of the demon prince.’’
Both Layla’s and Sisi eyes widened in horror. Their hands flying to their mouths in disbelief.
’’I truly wish this demon prince would just fall and die one day,’’ Sisi voiced out with her mouth shaped in displeasure.
’’Or... You become strong enough to make him pay heavily for his crimes.’’ Layla corrected and they both nodded, expecting her to make one heart touching promise that involved slitting her throat if she doesn’t fulfil her destiny.
Evangeline stared in response before nodding her head slowly.
Is it actually too late to want to return to her world?
She doesn’t mind returning as a dead person. This world is starting to look scarier than it seems.
’’Oh, and, Grandmother Supreme met with us and told us to deliver a message to you.’’
Evangeline sighed.
Could this day get any less depressing than it is?
’’A message?’’
They nodded.
’’What message?’’ She faked like she had no idea of what she meant. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
’’She asked us to inform you that you have between now and the ending of this week to fulfil the task.’’
Evangeline’s eyes could have been wider than that if she should say anything more ridiculous than that. She didn’t know if Grandmother Supreme understands that no one takes a pretty dangerous task that promises death on the same week she lost all her sibling.
’’What?’’
’’Exactly. She didn’t explain further but said you would understand.’’
Evangeline’s shoulder’s dropped as a disbelieving sigh escaped her lips.
Of all times, she could have been motivated to take on the task. She was staring to believe if Grandmother Supreme hoped she failed to not be forced to regard her as one of hers.
’’Do you understand what she meant? She is known for speaking in riddles and being mysterious. We could visit her tomorrow after school for better understanding...’’
’’No, no need. I get what she means.’’
Layla blinked at her in doubt. ’’You do? Which task did Grandmother give you to do on the week your brothers died?’’
’’It’s complicated. You wouldn’t understand.’’
They both stared at her for a long moment.
’’Well, whatever it is you are to so it can wait weeks after—’’
’’No, it can’t. I have to do it now or else...’’
’’Or else?’’
’’Or else...’’ She tried to figure out a better excuse but found none except the truth.
’’Nothing. You won’t understand. But I will be needing you to keep this a secret for me. No one else apart from the three of us should know Grand mother supreme gave me a task, okay?’’
’’Okay.’’ They mutually agreed.
’’Promise?’’
’’Don’t worry, Eva. No one would know about this.’’
’’Thank you.’’
