Chapter 77: Devil?

They stood there staring at each other in tense silence. When he began to close in on her, Evangeline pushed back with each step he took inside the room and towards her. She grabbed onto a pointy, sharp demon-shaped figurine as a sort of self-defense against the greatest terrorist of this world. She wasn’t yet sure why that spirit of strength hasn’t taken over yet. Now that she needed it the most.

This enigma kept moving forward, his eyes emotionless, and still managed to give its beauty charm effortlessly. They were locked on hers, and she has never been this anxious and intimidated by anyone before. He wasn’t fazed by the little figurine she pointed at him in an attempt to get him to stay away. Probably fear her a little.

Evangeline gasped in horror the moment the tip of her weapon had the smallest contact with his chiseled body and immediately evaporated to dark particles of ash. She ran back fast as she observed him with fear.

How was that possible with just a touch? Not to talk of the fact of being completely defenceless before him.

She kept moving back in response to his movements, not minding where she was going to. Evangeline tripped on something and fell unceremoniously on her, bringing down things along with her.

Darkness paused to observe his love let out the most adorable cry at her fall, and tried his best to hide his amusement. He must continue to look like the devil they must have brainwashed her to see him as, also, if he wants to know why she came all the way down here. Knowing how evil and unholy this place is popularly known for.

She tried to touch her back and continued to rub on her elbows as she gazed at him with an interesting frown.

He smirked and leaned on one knee to move very close to her face. Eva tried moving back in surprise at their sudden closeness, and blinked multiple times when he wouldn’t stop staring at her in this unknown way. His gaze focused more on her eyes, the window to her soul, as if searching for something.

Come to think of it, Evangeline grew bold enough to move her face close to him by an inch. He was the figure that traumatized her on the night of that carnival. Saying her name she has told no one before. Which added to the more mysteriousness of him as she maintained gazing at each other.

’’I really...want to kill you, little wolf.’’

She stiffened at his unexpected words. A trail of sweat slipped from the corner of her face as her eyes widened at him along with her fast beating chest.

The way he said that so softly and easily to her made her consider him being more of a psychopath than a lawless demon.

He slowly tilted his head a bit to the left, as if observing a very eye-catching thing.

’’I kill every moon dogs that trespass into this unholy land.’’

He saw the fear shimmering in her pretty blue eyes, and he inched closer in faint amusement. It was fun getting to play with her this way. He has missed being around with his friend, lover and all-time companion. It’s just sad how she doesn’t realize how much visible he was to her in her face right now.

’’I slowly kill them from the inside and watch them rot on the outside. Their pain my joy and their suffering my...healing.’’

Eva’s lips parted, but no words could come out from it. She had a lot to say to this but just didn’t know how to.

He was insane.

Scary most of the time.

Eva shivered when the tip of his fingers rose to have the smallest but longest contact with a strand of her hair. His eyes flickering between lust, desire, longing and so many other weird things.

’’They mostly come here with hopes of returning with my head on a silver plate to give to your corrupt God, but they are sent back as a group of lifeless, disfigured bones that my dogs over here ate the last fiber of flesh attached to it.’’

Eva gulped feeling nauseous already. She tried faking a cough to suppress her disgust, but the vivid imagery of what that meant couldn’t be comprehended by her mind.

’’I most times just burn them with a spell to keep them alive until the fire extinguishers. Which takes a pretty long time. Probably forever—’’ 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

’’Are you...’’

Those pretty eyes of his blinked with interest when she was ready to say something to him, rather than trying not to retch out the whole of her digestive system in disgust.

She couldn’t bear looking into those eyes anymore as he was so close and observing her every move.

’’...the...’’

’’Devil?’’ he finish even though she aimed to ask if he was the demon prince. But that best describes him now that she was meeting him like his. ’’I could be one, but I am seen much worse than that. At least the devil cares about his victims burning for eternity in his flames for his entertainment, but I just torture and kill the moment I get bored. And I easily get bored. So they die quicker. And the pain is bearable based on their level of endurance.’’

My—god?

She couldn’t be more or less fascinated by him negatively. He started trying to understand the look on her face.

’’But you know me sweetheart,’’ he smiled faintly as he rose to his feet again, towering over her form as she stared up to meet his burning gaze. ’’I couldn’t just be the evil, spineless, rebellious Demon Prince to you too.’’

What is he talking about?

She gradually rose to her feet to dust and check herself for any fresh injuries. And she found none.

He is more than that.

She stepped close.

He is her destiny.

’’Why are you here? Bold enough, not fearing death?’’

He began to circle her, letting her anxiety hit the tall ceilings.

’’Aren’t you...going to kill me?’’

Darkness chuckled, ’’Oh, I will kill you. But not now,’’ He whispered breathtakingly close to her ears and behind her.

’’Why are you here?’’ he asked again as she let him curve his arms around her waist from behind, drawing her closer to him as he breathed down her neck, forcing her to hold her breaths. ’’Did you also come for me?’’

Wh–what?

Come for him?

Why would she risk her life to see him?

She found it amusing as well as strange.

The fear was overwhelming when he had her trapped within his hold with no intentions of being freed.

Evangeline managed to turn in his hold to face him confused. There was this softness in his gaze that disappeared the moment she looked at him.

Why would the demon prince be expecting she would come for him? Is he also aware of the dumb destiny she has been told to fulfill?

Eva didn’t know how to make sense of this situation.

Should she come clean and tell him why she came here? Maybe he could take pity on her and...

’’I didn’t mean to trespass, and I am not foolish to wander down here without a reason.’’

So please, don’t kill me.

He let go of her and Evangeline was encouraged to speak her mind even though he looked relatively disappointed for no reason.

’’My grandmother knows something about me, and she says the only reason my....’’ she cast the demon prince a doubtful glance before continuing anyway. Not like he could understand if she said it. ’’...secret of transmigrating here and...killing their precious daughter—even though she is alive and trapped somewhere I can’t free her from even if I tried to...’’

He took a step closer with his eyes narrowing down at her, eyes darting back and forth in understanding.

’’She told me the only way I could be accepted by her is to come here and complete a task. It involves bringing her some kind of soul-seeking fruit which for some reason grows in this place alone. The guilt of living in place of someone being trapped in some ice prison forever was something I couldn’t bear, and that’s why I came here to do what she asked me to do.’’

The silence that occurred after her words was filled with the dark aura this entity before her gave as he glared down at her with so much intensity that her hands remained restless beside her. The redness of his eyes overwhelmed the blue ones as he gave her a malevolent and angered, also disbelieving look.

She released the hold she had on her breath when he stepped back and began to storm out of the room. Evangeline didn’t hesitate to follow him out as well. But she panicked when he turned around, causing her to pause in her tracks with a pounding chest of what he was going to do.

The last look he gave her felt like a trail of ice water running down her spine as he pulled both doors and closed followed by the sickening sound of a lock.

Eva’s eyes widened as she ran to pull and tug at the handle several times, but it wouldn’t budge. She tried multiple times even attempting to break the golden handles and force her way out.

But her efforts were all put to shame, and she was left alone in this creepy room with her fears, worry and confusion to deal with.
