Chapter 87: Love At First Sight

’’You’ve been staring a lot at me lately since we’ve arrived here.’’

Evangeline’s cheeks heated up as they all moved in a double file behind the female chief of the wolf guards into the training camp her father had prepared for them for their comfort. It wasn’t as big or as comfortable as their various castles where they hailed from, but you could see the efforts the King Alpha made to ensure it feels more like home than a grinding place.

The training grounds for them alone was eerily close to the dungeons. Provisions for the best security was made for them in-case of a demon attack. They had vampire guards, wolf guards, elf guards and even a few female witches was called to put a protective spell around them.

Though, her mother refused to let her go there to train. She tried to convince her mate to let them train in their castles for top security. But what’s a better way to be more focused, strive to put in your very best than being shipped out of your comfort zone.

Everyone except the Queen Luna agreed it was a great idea to bring their heirs together and train them for the future very close to the dungeons. What their parents never did to prepare them when they take their place was what they aspire to do for their children.

A kingdom’s future dims when its heir is unprepared for the thorns that come with the crown. The weight wouldn’t be as painful if they had known its burden before it was placed upon their head.

The Alpha King only wants the best for his daughter, his family, and the millions of wolves he is in-charge of. He wishes to prepare her to be strong enough to withstand the worst. He wouldn’t want the Demon Prince wicked reign to be the problem of the generation of werewolves and other supernaturals of the moon that will rise after Evangeline. It shouldn’t be a generational issue anymore.

His goal since he lost four of his children to the enemy.

’’Oh, me?’’

Princess Andrea nodded at her as they made their way to a large, dome-shaped opening arranged neatly in beautiful dinning chairs and tables for two and more. It was already dark outside before they thought it was time to settle in the building. All that they came with is being taken care of in their individual rooms.

The space had an ethereal view of the raining snow and the dark world outside these walls. You could also faintly see the tall, dark, overgrown trees that mark the territory of the dungeons—the realm of demons and the sitting of the demon prince. The top to floor windows were generous in that aspect, and Evangeline wondered how they kept these room so warm enough to make them comfortable to let go of their winter coats.

The dining area was filled with many servants, filling the tables with many dishes for them to indulge in for the rest of the night. The beautiful chandelier hanging above their heads made this place to be more lovable and welcoming. Giving it a warm, soft aura and light.

’’I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.’’ Eva quickly apologized as she remained by the Vampire side in the middle of the room. Their friends already scattered around the dinning hall to indulge in something that looks, smell and must taste delicious.

Princess Andrea gave her a soft smile that it was alright.

’’I should be getting used to being stared at a lot. My mother tells me we are the most feared and more demonic than we seem because of our...weird fetish for blood?’’

Eva felt awful for making her feel that way. She wanted to apologize more, and could imagine how hard it must be for her to mingle among people who feared her because of what she was.

But Princess Andrea stopped any more nonsense apologizes from streaming out of her lips. She grabbed her by the hand and led her to a particular table where their mates have all chosen to gather to devour whatever they’ve picked for themselves from the other tables.

’’I said it’s fine, then it is," Andrea dismissed again.

"We should be friends, don’t you think? And don’t worry, I wouldn’t dare hurt the daughter of the Alpha King. I liked you when I first arrived here in Astoria. You look so confused, improper and mostly easily intimidated by everyone. If you ask me, I find it cute. I see you to be the realest person among us, and do you know why?’’

Evangeline eyes moved back and forth, wondering why as they slowly neared the table.

’’Why?’’

’’Because...you don’t hide your fear for anything. While I and the others try to be bold, daring and seeking validation for being fearless and right for the cause, you do not hesitate to show on your pretty face that you don’t like training very close to the dungeons. Or that our guardian, the female chief of the wolf guards, scares you. Which makes me wonder, Your Highness, what other things scares you the most?’’

Evangeline didn’t know what to say to that. Her face has been a scared cat all along? Who else has been observing this and thinking she isn’t fit to be the savior of this universe?

Two soft but firm hands were placed on both of her shoulders in comfort. She raised her head to be met with a set of clean, pearly fangs peaking behind a set of full dark red lips.

’’That’s why I say you are the realest person here. It’s okay to show fear. That shows you are invested in this course someway, and that you’ve overthought everything and seen the worst. I need to be close to someone like you. Especially when I grew up in a setting where perfection is the normal standard and fear is a sign of weakness. I promise never to make you feel threatened by who I am, Princess Evangeline, if we stay close to each other.’’

It was the weirdest way to make a friend, but it was better than keeping silent and not making any effort.

’’Sure, I would love to.’’

’’Fang-tastic!’’ Andrea smiled as they both settled on the table. Unfortunately, she had the Elf prince sitting by her left and Andrea comfortably seated by her right.

’’Here,’’ he whispered softly while placing a bowl of what looked like pudding before her. She turned to stare at him in bewilderment. Wondering why he picked both of their foods for them when she didn’t ask him to. He only gave her a heart-gripping smile before going ahead to place a set of utensils beside her plate in the most charming and gentlemanly way ever.

Andrea chuckled by her right before leaning close to whisper in her ear. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

’’I think he likes you.’’

No, he does not.

She slowly thanked him which earned multiple smiles of admiration on the table. She picked up her spoon and began to eat.

But what else could be an excuse for his behavior to her since she met him?

Could this really be love at first sight?
