Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 188: Living Forever!
Chapter 188: Living Forever!
Eldric wasn’t sitting in his usual seat in his office. Instead, he stood by the window, staring at the sun high in the clouds with his back to the door when he heard a knock.
"Come in!" he snapped without turning his head. He was already aware of who it was as he heard the person walk in and shut the door behind him before dropping to the ground.
"My lord!" Ravon’s slightly trembling voice could be heard as he stared at the ground with his head lowered, not daring to raise his face even if Eldric wasn’t directly staring at him.
From the tone and urgency in the letter he had received, he was confident that Eldric was on the brink of discarding him—a fate that wouldn’t only end with him getting fired.
"My-my lord!" he began to speak after a full moment of silence as Eldric didn’t say a word. "Fiona’s body wasn’t among those in the mansion. It was also confirmed that she left by herself. Cain wouldn’t go through the trouble of killing her elsewhere and discarding her body. He doesn’t work like that!"
But even after he was done speaking, Eldric still didn’t turn to look at him, almost as if his words were nothing but air. His gaze remained fixed outside the mansion, even as Ravon curiously wondered, What is so interesting out there that he can’t even look at me?
"I’ve deployed my private guards under me, and coupled with Cain’s elite guards, there’s no doubt in my mind that we’ll be able to find her soon, even before—"
"Of course, you’ll find her! If you don’t, I’ll have to start cutting out pieces from your family and mailing them to you!" Eldric said, cutting him off as he turned around to look at Ravon, who stared right into his light brown eyes and steady gaze, only to find nothing there.
Aware that Eldric wasn’t the kind of person to make threats, and every word he said was more like a promise, Ravon felt his heart shudder in his chest as he vigorously nodded his head, about to respond when he heard Eldric continue to speak.
"Cain! You’ve been watching him closely. Does he look okay to you?" Eldric asked as he moved toward the bar in the large office to his left, his gaze gliding across the many bottles stacked there. He pulled out a glass, settling on a stool by the large counter as he began to pour himself some wine, while Ravon answered his question.
"Cain has been very quiet! After the bloodbath, his lover suddenly left out of fear and never returned. Most of the guards I spoke with confirmed that Cain had probably killed him out of anger! Cain returned with a pet, which no one has seen, but some of the servants are whispering that it might be a female!"
"Fiona?" Eldric asked with a flash of confusion on his face as he sipped from his wine glass, turning his gaze to Ravon, who shivered as he immediately shook his head.
"No! The servant that saw her barely got a glimpse. Short brown hair and ordinary features! There was nothing special about her except that she looked skinny!" Ravon replied, taking in a breath of relief as he watched Eldric nod his head in response to what he said.
Quietly sipping on his glass without immediately asking another question, almost as if he seemed lost in thought, Eldric mumbled quietly to himself, He could be using sex as an escape. Then he shifted his gaze to Ravon to ask another question.
"The red potion he’s been taking—the howling is still the same?" Eldric asked to confirm, to which Ravon immediately nodded his head in agreement.
"Religiously! He has never missed a day!" But Ravon had just spoken when he saw Eldric gesture for him to leave with his hand, without saying a word, his lips still attached to the glass as he took a longer and deeper sip.
"Wait for me outside!" Eldric instructed, and Ravon didn’t hesitate to scramble to his feet, bowing his head as he immediately turned around to leave. He was only relieved after he had shut the door behind him.
But Ravon had just done so when Eldric picked up another glass from the glass tray, placing it right beside him as he poured the wine from the bottle into it, slowly filling it up.
He had just put the bottle back on the counter when the body of a woman slowly appeared, starting from her legs to her torso and finally her face, as she moved to sit right opposite Eldric with an elegant twist of her body.
She looked young, with purple eyes and long dark hair that reached all the way to her back. Her eyes had a sly element to them that made it seem like she was always and constantly up to no good. Her lips were raised in an almost seductive way, as if she were always looking for her next thrill.
Her nails were red, and her lips even redder, as she grabbed the cup and raised it to her lips, savoring it with a mild frown on her face as she pulled back and swirled the contents in her cup.
"It could have aged better!" Her voice was soft, almost ethereal, as she stared at the glass, her entire focus on it, while Eldric could no longer hold back.
He would have liked to ask Ravon more questions but had to hold back when she had signaled that the temporary invisibility spell she had used had almost run out.
"Lady June!" he began to speak, his voice fierce but with a respectful hint to it as he addressed her.
"The red potion should have done its work by now! Shouldn’t Cain have completely gone mad...what’s taking so long?" Eldric said, about to snap, only to rein his voice in as he realized that he wasn’t talking to a subordinate. The witch sitting right opposite him was almost as old as him, regardless of how young her features looked.
"It just means the potion is better than I thought...or his body is even stronger than I expected, which is a good thing. The potion was made from both the hearts of Reds and werewolves, and Cain’s body would make my immortal elixir complete!" she said, not once raising her intonation as she spoke one word after the other without emphasizing any of them.
"We want the same thing, which is why we’re both on the same side. Why should Reds be the only ones to live forever?" A sly look crossed her face as she raised the wine glass to her lips again and took a greater sip, her eyes fixed on Eldric with a sly look as she watched his gaze wander to her lips before he checked himself.
