Chapter 192: I Vote Death

Magnus had barely finished speaking when the entire hall was thrown into complete and utter silence. Violet, who stood behind Cain’s seat, couldn’t help but jerk her head up to look in the direction of the huge and muscular middle-aged man who had spoken.

He had a greyed beard that would have likened him to a grandpa if not for the mad scowl on his face that made it clear that he could never be put in a Santa Claus role as he continued to speak.

"With what he has done...he deserves to pay for his crime. Removing him as lord is the least!" he said before turning his gaze at Cain, who was already looking in his direction, speaking directly to him.

"The best would be for you to gently step down!" Magnus continued with fierce, crinkled eyes, refusing to back down when Cain turned a dark gaze on him.

A hint of a smile lingered at the edge of Cain’s lips as he stared at him before shifting his gaze away, down at the table. He didn’t bother to look at anyone else, almost as if he were waiting for something.

The air and tension in the hall rose and continued to rise even as Lady Bella sat stiffly in her seat, a bit glad that she wasn’t sitting too close to Cain. He looked completely normal, but entrenched deep in her heart, Bella had already concluded that he wasn’t, and she simply hoped that the other lords wouldn’t be as rash as Magnus.

After Magnus spoke, no one rushed to speak, almost as if they were trying to gauge Cain’s reaction, intent on moving forward from there.

Eldric, who sat at the top of the table, glanced at Magnus before glancing at Cain with a blank expression on his face, but deep within his heart, he couldn’t help but grin.

Idiot! he mentally sneered at Magnus, intent on making the situation more chaotic than before.

If I play it well...who knows, Cain might just help me take him out. Magnus getting seriously injured should be enough. Just like Bernard, who was replaced by Lady Bella. Replacing all of them with younger generations that won’t be able to go against me will make me king! Barely able to hide his excitement, he leaned into his seat and raised his left hand, placing it over his mouth and on his chin as he spoke.

"I agree! Lord Cain has to explain his actions and the reasons for it before we all pass judgment!" Eldric said in a steady and clear tone, even as he glided his gaze over the rest of the people seated at the table, not missing the smirk that flashed on Magnus’s face when he spoke.

Lady Harriet nodded her head, but sitting on Cain’s right, she wasn’t bold enough to speak, aware of her own strength, which was incomparable to Cain’s.

"I agree!" Lord William spoke up in a low and hoarse tone, a subtle weakness in his voice that couldn’t be hidden as he focused his eyes on Cain from where he sat, a smile on his face. He sent a nod at Cain, whose eyes lit up in amusement as he turned his gaze to Lord Grainger, who spoke next.

"Lords aren’t meant to kill their servants! Explain yourself, and we will pass judgment!" Grainger said with a deep frown on his face. He was yet to forget what Cain had done and the way he had embarrassed him, and as much as he would have liked to do the same and order him to stand, he didn’t dare to. Someone else should bring it up! he thought.

There were six of them and only one Cain, but no one was willing to be the first to attack. The fact that he had been able to attack Eldric, who was the most influential among them, and get away with it was already evidence enough.

But just when they were expecting to hear Cain snap at them and refuse to explain, arguing that he had the right to dish out punishments over his own personal servants without their involvement in his matters, they all suddenly watched him rise.

Slowly, he got to his feet and stood. He wore a normal white shirt and black pants, with nothing about his clothes standing out. His blonde hair was parted in a way that framed his well-structured face and chiseled jaw. His golden-brown eyes shone with mischief even as he stood, his gaze sliding across all of them without stopping on anyone in particular as he began to speak.

"Yes! I killed them—or at least most of them!" he began in an almost soft tone that sounded like he was describing how his day was going so far.

"I wanted to kill them ALL, and I would have, but then I got distracted..." he trailed off with a slightly lost look in his eyes, his voice much colder in a way that seemed to make everyone freeze in their seats.

Violet wasn’t excluded as she heard her heart thumping loudly in her ears as she heard him speak. You know the kind of person he is...you’ve seen him kill...don’t act surprised! she mentally scolded herself, recalling Cain’s warning to not flinch as long as she was in the hall.

A few minutes more, and this should be over! she thought to herself as she heard Cain continue, slightly curious to know whether or not he would actually be removed as lord and, if not, what punishment he would receive.

But the more she thought about it, the more it unsettled her, unable to imagine Cain accepting any sort of punishment whatsoever. From what she knew of him, he acted like he didn’t care, but never had she ever met such a proud person in her life.

"I’ve always wanted to burn my mansion down with them in it, but then I figured...using them to let off some steam was much better!" he continued, a hint of a smile fixed to his lips in a way that made all the lords blink as they watched Cain admit to killing his servants simply for fun, with no iota of remorse on his face.

No one dared to speak until Eldric, realizing that things weren’t heated enough, spoke up, raising his voice as he interrupted Cain.

"As you all know, my beast sometimes thirsts for blood, and I—"

"So you admit that you killed almost a hundred people for absolutely no reason!" Eldric’s voice was razor-sharp as he belted it out at Cain with a fierce expression on his face, even as Cain nodded his head in response even before Eldric was done, opening his mouth to speak.

"Yes!" His tone was low, a wider smile on his face, his eyes crinkling with amusement as he spoke. "It was fun!"

Even Violet couldn’t help but hold her breath for a split second as the atmosphere became too hard to breathe, feeling the eyes that were all focused on Cain, including those of the people who stood behind the other lords.

She had assumed that things would end soon, but hearing the proud and arrogant tone Cain used, showing no remorse, it became clear that things would only get much worse. She wasn’t surprised when it did, as she heard the lord who sat on Cain’s left open his mouth to speak.

Violet was surprised, considering the silent way he had been weakly leaning against the table, his forehead covered in sweat that showed that, unlike the others, he was definitely the weakest. She wondered where he found the courage.

"It’s clear then!" Lord William declared, his voice much louder than before. "Each life matters, doesn’t it..." he spoke, his eyes lighting up and fists clenched in a way that betrayed how deeply he felt about it. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

"I vote death! A serial murderer shouldn’t be allowed to live!" He declared in a tone that showed his deep sense of justice.
