Chapter 193: Bigger...Badder Wolf

Violet was shocked.

Baffled was an understatement as she got lost staring at the lord like he had grown two heads, and one of them had been split open.

She wasn’t the only one. Everyone else’s attention was fixed on William, who had just spoken, though most of them maintained blank expressions, knowing better than to reveal their true thoughts.

Is he trying to drag us down to hell with him?! they mused in different variations, all of them aware that they wouldn’t have dared to say such a thing to Cain. They marveled at the fact that Cain simply nodded his head without responding.

This, however, made some of them feel more courageous as they began to speak.

Magnus was the first to seize the opportunity. "I agree with Lord William... Killing such a huge number of people... only a monster can do such a thing!" he declared before proceeding to state his stance.

"I vote that Lord Cain be removed from his position as Lord of his district!" he proclaimed, knowing better than to call for the death of the man who sat directly opposite him. He feared Cain would turn his fangs on him instead.

Magnus was confident in his own strength, but that didn’t mean he was willing to test Cain’s.

"I agree!" Lady Harriet said, not daring to add anything else. She shifted in her seat, her face forward, staring at Lord Grainger, who spoke next.

"I vote for Cain’s removal!" he stated, making it two votes for removal and one for death.

Lady Bella could feel her heart thumping in her chest as she sat in her seat, her hands balled together tightly. Even as she felt Drey, her assistant, lightly place a hand on her shoulder, offering silent support, she wished desperately that her father would stop sending her to these meetings in his place—even after he had recovered.

Fuck! she mentally screamed, realizing that if she abstained from voting, it would make her look weak in the eyes of the others.

But before she could decide, Lord Eldric suddenly spoke. "I vote death!"

A stunned silence filled the room. Shocked expressions flickered across their faces, none more so than Bella’s, who failed to hide her reaction and only remembered a moment too late to mask it.

Cain grinned, standing comfortably with his arms folded across his chest, as if the votes meant nothing to him. He turned his gaze to Bella with a subtle hint of expectation in his eyes, surprised to see her meet his gaze without hesitation.

"I abstain," she said, not flinching despite the hardened glares of the other lords, who turned to her with fury in their eyes. Bella met each and every one of their gazes, refusing to back down.

Magnus let out a low growl, slamming his hand on the table. "It is settled then. Two votes for death... three for removal... one has abstained."

But he had barely finished speaking when Cain opened his mouth, causing Violet’s heart to race as she heard his voice. It skipped a beat when he cast his vote.

"I vote death," Cain said.

A wave of confusion washed over the room as all the lords turned to him, unable to hide their bewilderment.

"As long as I’m still Lord, my vote counts...it should count more!," he continued, a grin stretching across his face. This time, he bared his teeth, the challenge in his eyes clear for all to see.

For a long, intense moment, no one spoke, almost as if they couldn’t think of how to respond. Then, unexpectedly, Eldric clapped his hands, the sharp sound echoing through the room.

"It is settled then!" he declared with a beaming smile, having already decided that he would rescue Cain later—but first, he would set him against Magnus. Cain couldn’t be allowed to die. Not yet. Not when he was still a necessary ingredient.

"Magnus, you brought up the motion. You will carry out the verdict! Remove or kill him...the choice is yours!"

But Magnus, who knew exactly what was happening, refused to be the scapegoat. He shot up from his seat, slamming both hands onto the table, his eyes red with fury as he glared directly at Eldric.

"Says who?! We all voted—we should all carry out the verdict!" he snapped, his gaze shifting to William, a sneer forming as he watched William suddenly erupt into a loud coughing fit. The room’s attention shifted to him for half a minute before he finally stopped coughing.

"I’m sorry, but you all know my state. That will be impossible," William said between labored breaths.

Eldric didn’t even wait for him to finish before speaking again. "...Magnus, you know the rules. You brought up the motion. After you carry it out, you will also have priority in the division of his district," Eldric stated, his eyes flashing with anger, exerting a subtle pressure that told Magnus to obey.

But Magnus didn’t dare. He caught the glances the others were exchanging.

A portion of Cain’s district? More like a portion of yours!

"Are you scared?" Eldric taunted loudly, dragging Magnus’s pride into the equation, ensuring that he wouldn’t be able to back down. "You can ask for help if—"

A loud crack suddenly echoed through the hall, cutting him off.

The unmistakable sound of bones breaking.

The werewolves in the room instantly recognized it. They could change into their beast forms at will, but the fact that the sound came from Cain sent a jolt through all of them.

Eldric was the first to react, leaping off his seat and transforming in an instant. The others followed suit, shifting into their monstrous forms within seconds.

Violet was stunned as she watched them transform, jerking when Frank suddenly grabbed her arm, yanking her back as he prepared to dart outside—only to freeze.

And he wasn’t the only one.

Violet’s mouth was wide open as she stared, eyes flicking between the gathered wolves and back to Cain.

The table had been completely obliterated—reduced to smithereens.

The beasts of the wolf lords were massive, almost as big as Cain’s own had been. They couldn’t compare to Ravon’s size, but before her eyes...

Cain’s beast was much, much bigger now.

So much so that it made all the other lords’ beasts look like growing children. His sheer body size alone was enough to crush them all.

Cain opened his mouth and let out a deep, resonant growl—one so powerful that every wolf in the room collapsed to the ground, groveling in submission, whether they wanted to or not.freёnovelkiss.com
