Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 199: Poison!
Chapter 199: Poison!
Eldric hadn’t stopped pacing around his office since he got back to his mansion. His eyes were red, and his face looked inflamed with anger as he moved from one end of the room to the other with his hands on his waist.
He was yet to change back to normal clothes, and he still wore the cloak that his guard had given him, even as he continued to move around with an angry sneer on his face.
He couldn’t calm down in the slightest at the memory of what had happened in the meeting, which was the last thing he had expected to see.
Yes, he was glad that Magnus had been injured, but at the same time, he had expected that it would have taken at least two lords to stop Cain.
The strength Cain had displayed was one that Eldric couldn’t have imagined, and it pissed him off even more the longer he thought about it. He had just stopped pacing, opening his mouth to shout for one of his guards when he heard a knock on the door, which made him pause.
He watched as a guard moved in and dropped to his knees as he began to speak. "My lord! The letter has been sent! Is there anything..." but he was still talking when Eldric screamed at him in an irate manner.
"GET OUT!"
"NOW!" he screamed, even as he swiped the contents on his table right to the ground, regardless of whatever it was, as several pieces of glass and fragile bottles smashed against the ground and the wall.
By the time he turned back to look at the door, the guard was gone, but that didn’t calm him down, and it only made him angrier as he looked around the empty room, almost like he was trying to find something he couldn’t see but had to be there.
Huffing in anger, he moved to the bar, ignoring the bottles of wine as he instead snatched a bottle with one of the highest alcoholic contents he had, pouring himself a cup.
The burn in his mouth and throat made him release a sigh of relief, even though his eyes still burned clearly in fury. His gaze was still fixed on the glass in his hand when he suddenly heard a voice from a few feet away from him.
"Your letter was pretty urgent, and seeing how pissed you are... I’m guessing something happened!" a soft feminine voice said. Eldric jerked his face to the side to look at Lady June with her purple eyes and long dark hair as she continued to speak.
"You know I can’t come here too often for my safety. This better be—"
But Eldric didn’t let her finish as he slammed his glass cup on the counter of the wine bar, fixing an angry gaze on Lady June, who looked back with a mostly blank and calm expression on her face.
"You made him more powerful! He’s more powerful, June!" Eldric screamed, spittle flying everywhere, even as Lady June’s eyes hardened ever so slightly in response to the way he blatantly called her name, but her expression did not change as she heard him continue to rave.
"He-he was five times my beast size! A size even his parents have never been! What did you do? Did you mess up the potion?" his voice got louder and more erratic the longer he continued to speak.
But even as he raved, Lady June simply continued to elegantly stand there, watching him with a thoughtful expression on her face without making any bid to speak. Not like Eldric gave her any space to.
"He defeated Magnus! A fucking lord! With one kick! ONE KICK!" he roared, trying to show the absurdity of what he had been forced to watch, even as he stared intently at Lady June, waiting for her to give him an explanation for the madness he had seen. novelbuddy.cσ๓
"This! This wasn’t the agreement!" he turned hostile eyes on her, showing that he was somewhat convinced that he had been betrayed and that Lady June had somehow, for whatever reason that he wasn’t aware of, chosen to side with Cain.
Finally, Lady June opened her mouth to speak with a hint of a smile at the edge of her lips, her purple eyes shining brightly with unhidden glee as she fixed her gaze on Eldric, who didn’t share in her amusement.
"This is what we wanted, isn’t it? For you, power, and for me, the longevity of the reds! I had assumed that Cain would have gone mad before then, but it appears that his body is much stronger than I expected!" she began to speak.
"Not only had the potion not worked negatively against him, but it had been assimilated brilliantly by his body with no outward negative effects, seeing as how he was able to easily transform...!" she continued to mumble to herself as she mentally went over the results she had expected for the experiments she made.
This only frustrated Eldric, who was about to lash out as he didn’t understand what she meant when he suddenly heard her speak to him.
"How long?"
"How long did he transform into his beast form?" she asked in full after a few seconds, and Eldric seemed not to have understood her question.
"About a minute! It was very short!" Eldric responded, even as he too began to settle down, seeing the relaxed way Lady June continued to talk and vigorously nod her head with a gleeful smile on her face.
"...It’s possible that he can hold it for longer, but not much longer. His beast form is yet to stabilize!" she summarized in her head, even as she continued to beam in excitement, especially since it was the first time the results she expected would completely deviate from what she had planned.
A moment of silence passed with Eldric watching the woman in front of him continue to mumble to herself and under her breath, going as far as to use words he didn’t understand, which only pissed him off even more.
"Lady June!" he finally said, opening his mouth to pull her attention back to him as quickly as he could before his anger completely erupted in a way that wouldn’t be beneficial to their partnership.
"What’s going on? At this point! I can’t kill Cain even if I wanted to!" Making his displeasure known, especially since it was the first time he had felt like he wasn’t in control.
Only to watch Lady June nod gently, moving closer to where he stood by the bar and dragging a seat closer to sit in front of him, gesturing for him to pour her a drink.
Usually, he would have opened a new bottle and poured a glass of wine for the lady, but his mood was bitter, and he didn’t hesitate to pour the gin he had been drinking right into her cup.
Surprised to see her grab it and down the whole of it without so much as a change in her reaction just before she began to speak, the excitement in her eyes couldn’t be hidden.
"This isn’t a problem! It’s a good thing for us! It means my experiment is going better than expected. Once we get the child we need... we can execute him."
But she had just finished speaking when Eldric interrupted with a huge frown on his face, "...That’s the problem! We can’t execute him! He has gotten too strong!" he snapped, barely holding himself back from banging loudly on the counter, even as he watched Lady June respond, her voice much lower than before.
"That’s okay! If his body can accommodate the negative effects I imbibed the potion with, then we simply have to increase the dosage!" she replied, fixing her gaze on Eldric in a way that made it clear that he would be the one to do it... obviously.
For a split second, Eldric completely became calm as he stared right at Lady June, opening his mouth to confirm that it would actually work.
Eldric’s lips parted slightly, his anger dimming for a moment. This will kill him?
"No!" Lady June chuckled darkly. "...He would fully go mad. That’s the end result I planned for him!"
she responded with a smile, grinding her teeth together, still able to feel the scars on her back that she had received from Cain’s father, Baveli, before he died.
For the sins of the father shall be visited on the son, she thought, a dark and cruel look in her eyes as she poured herself another drink before getting up to leave with the glass.
Eldric wasn’t surprised to watch her pull out a potion from her purse and drink it, speaking to him as her body slowly began to disappear, piece by piece.
"Unless it’s extremely important, you won’t see me again! A letter should be enough!" she said, a hint of warning in her tone as she finally became completely invisible to his eyes—until he watched the door open and shut by itself, fully convincing him that she had indeed left.
But different thoughts were already running through Eldric’s head, impatient to implement what she had just told him.
"I’ll put it in every food! Every food in that mansion!" he mumbled to himself, not caring in the least if the werewolf servants were also affected. All he cared about was that he couldn’t allow Cain to live freely... not with that amount of power.
