Chapter 334: Finding Violet

Cain woke up earlier than usual with the sense that something was wrong.

It wasn’t until his eyes fully popped open, as he glanced at the space beside him on the bed and touched it, that he realized what was wrong.

The side of the bed Violet should have been lying on was cold, almost like it hadn’t been slept in. Surprised by how deeply he had slept, he instantly scrambled off the bed.

"Violet!" he called, putting on his clothes as he prepared to head out—especially when he got no answer. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Through their bond he could tell that all was well and she wasn’t in danger, but instead of feeling relieved he felt even more worried as he hurriedly dressed up and headed out.

But he had just taken a few steps when he noticed a piece of paper that had been left on the table. One glance was enough to tell him that it was from Violet.

Frowning deeply, he slowly picked it up and read the contents of it.

{I’m leaving! This is my choice! I’ll be back in a year!}

He read out loud, turning the paper over only to realize that there was nothing else that had been written on the piece of paper.

Instead of getting angry there was barely any expression on his face as he squeezed the paper in his hands and shoved it in his pocket before heading out the room.

He had just stepped out—ignoring the guards who stood by the door—when he whistled a low sound that was so low it was almost barely heard.

Yet Henry, the head of his guards, darted towards him a few seconds later, dropping on his knees with a bright smile on his face.

"Your highness!" he said, relieved to see that Cain was actually well, especially since his absence had showed that something had actually gone wrong.

"It’s nice to—" but he was still speaking when Cain interrupted him, not allowing him to finish whatever it was that he had been on the verge of saying.

"Violet! Where is she?" Cain asked him.

Henry lowered his head without a twinge of worry in his gaze as he instantly responded.

"She stepped out with a car. She didn’t say where she was going but she took two guards with her!"

He wasn’t worried since Violet had been going out often enough for him to trust that she would come back.

Which was why he was even more surprised when he felt Cain’s silent displeasure—one that seemed louder than any words he could have spoken.

A moment passed before Cain opened his mouth to speak again.

"Send a message to the guards to bring her right back!" he said, giving another order right after one that sounded almost contradictory.

"Get a car ready! I’m heading out!"

Henry would have usually asked questions if not for the fact that it was becoming increasingly obvious Cain was in a clearly shitty mood.

The car was ready and Cain had gotten in, prepared to give instructions to the driver, when a car he recognized as belonging to him drove right in.

The only thing was that he could see the two guards who had apparently followed Violet out, but Violet herself was nowhere to be found.

The car had just stopped when they instantly ran out—running towards Cain, whose car door was still open almost like he had been waiting for them.

"Lord Cain..." the two of them greeted at the same time, almost like they had rehearsed it.

Their pale faces and trembling lips were filled with shock, glancing at each other almost like they could not agree on who was going to speak about what they had experienced.

But Cain’s aura and intense gaze was enough for them to realize that both of them would pay if none of them chose to speak.

"...She was in the car at the back seat when suddenly she disappeared. It—it was sudden!" one of them stuttered, struggling to get the words out, lowering his head and bowing on one knee.

"We swear it. We instantly stopped and got out, searching around just in case someone had pulled her out or something, but that’s impossible!" the other continued.

"I was driving at more than 80mph! That’s impossible!" he emphasized again with a terrified look on his face, almost like the creepiness of the situation was more than he could fathom.

"It—it!" the first one began again, "It has to be the work of a witch! It’s the only explanation!"

Cain’s expression seemed to darken even more than before as he looked at them, slamming his car door the very next second.

He ordered Henry, who sat in the front seat, and the driver to go ahead and drive the car.

The driver didn’t so much as hesitate, especially with the tension in the air and the fact that they were also now aware of why Cain seemed to be in a completely shitty mood.

Henry couldn’t help but be worried, even as he masked it with a blank expression on his face. He had known Violet enough to be aware of how much she cared about Cain.

’She was definitely kidnapped!’ he thought, wondering if it had to do with the person she and Uva met to heal Cain.

The car drove quickly out the main gate and past streets, even as Cain gave instructions based on what the two guards had told him and what he could tell from the bond he felt with Violet.

He was frustrated and angry, and the only reason he could keep his anger under control was the knowledge that he could find her no matter where she went.

But they had just gotten to the road the guards had described to him when he ordered the driver to stop. He got out, looking around even as his heart in his chest thumped slowly but fiercely.

A light expression of shock flickered in his red and gold eyes as he realized that no matter how he tried, he could not tell the direction she went. The bond was still there, but it was almost like it had been cut off.

Cain tried to remain calm, but all the fear that he had been bottling up threatened to overcome him. He turned the emotions he felt into the only way he knew how—anger.

One his wolf bristled to unleash.
