Chapter 337: Found her{1}

Uva couldn’t speak even if she wanted to. At that point breathing was already a hectic task that she was clearly losing at. π—³πš›π—²π•–πš πšŽπš‹π—»π—Όπ•§π—²π₯.𝚌𝚘𝐦

It didn’t help that Cain seemed completely oblivious to her pain, either that or he reveled in it as he tightened his hold in a way that made her feel like her neck was on the cusp of snapping into two.

I’m too old for this! Uva thought as her vision slowly began to black out, wondering what she did to deserve such a thing when such terrible things didn’t happen in her youth.

But just before she completely lost all consciousness she suddenly felt pain as her body hit the floor, her legs unable to hold her up as she began to cough, face red as she struggled to catch whatever breath could keep her alive.

Meanwhile Cain was furious, furious enough for his eyes to turn into a reddish sort of gold as he glared down at Uva who was still coughing with tears streaming down her face.

"I asked-asked around! She was the only one that knew how!" Uva said before pulling out the victim card she had been holding close to her chest.

"All we wanted to do was save your life!" she added, having realized that if she didn’t use all she could and say all that needed to be said, she would die in the hands of the beast before he himself realized what he had done.

But Cain was barely listening as he began to pace back and forth in the room. Lady June was the witch that had killed his entire family and ripped out their hearts simply to make her potion of immortality.

He was also half convinced that she was the one that cursed him and made it nearly impossible to control his werewolf form.

I wouldn’t be surprised if she was the one that gave the red potion to Eldric... that somehow managed to help but just long enough until it made him go completely mad, so his territory could be taken by Eldric and not divided amongst the other Lords! The deeper he thought about it the more rage seemed to flood his heart until he saw red.

He knew that Uva and Violet were simply doing the best they could, but the thought that he had taken something concocted by her made him want to go on a rampage as he bristled, his eye colors flashing from a dull reddish gold to a bright one.

Uva was still on the floor coughing even though her throat didn’t hurt like before. Still, she wasn’t about to get up and give him the chance to squeeze her into paste all over again.

So instead she sat on the floor without wiping away the tears on her face, coughing intermittently to show that she was still in pain even if it only aggravated her throat.

Cain continued to pace around the room even as Uva waited for the storm to pass, silence settling in the air.

One that was quickly interrupted by the sound of a sharp knock that jarred Uva up. She glanced at the door, aware that any distraction for Cain would be a blessing for her.

Cain though didn’t respond and seemed on the verge of ignoring it until the knock came again, louder the second time.

Finally he spoke, barking at whosoever was at the door. "Come in!" he snapped, even as Uva breathed a sigh of relief, ready to meld with the background of the room and be forgotten as she watched Henry, the head of Cain’s guard, step in, closing the door behind him before dropping to his knees.

"My lord!" he said, even as Cain glared at him, Uva relieved to see someone else take the brunt of Cain’s ire for a change.

"What is it?" Cain asked, his voice gruff in a way that showed he was in the worst of moods, and it was only about to get worse if Henry didn’t spit out whatever he had to say.

Henry knew and didn’t hesitate as he began to speak.

"We were not able to find any traces from where the bodyguards stopped. Using her smell and the werewolf we recruited in searching the hotels in the city, we’ve managed to find a trace of them!" he said.

Cain instantly stopped pacing as he focused his attention on Henry, and Uva did the same. But unlike Cain, who looked a bit relieved, Uva had a frown on her face.

Lady June was a powerful witch. Erasing those traces would be as simple as taking a lollipop from a child! Uva thought as warning signs went off in her head at the very thought of it.

It was worrisome, but the last thing she wanted was to be involved in it as she listened to Cain ask more questions and Henry give all the information he had.

"The last place we traced them to was the Grand Marisol Hotel. I think we should head there as fast as possible to ensure that they don’t escape!" Henry said, and Cain nodded, seeing no need to hesitate.

It was evening and the sun was setting, though not enough to render the sky completely dark.

"Take as many men as you can with you. I want the entire place surrounded and everyone stopped. Anything that so much as breathed!" Cain instructed.

Meanwhile Uva sighed, feeling the need to shake her head like the old woman she was, but she didn’t.

Lady June is either toying with you or it’s a trap! she thought, knowing Cain already suspected the same, but also aware that they had no other choice but to pursue it.

Uva simply waited for both of them to leave so she could head back quietly to her room, only to hear Cain speak to her in a way that made it clear she hadn’t been forgotten.

"You’re coming with us!" he told herβ€”four words that made an old woman her age want to cry.
