Chapter 71: Psychopath Behavior

"Wha-what? You want to come in? You can’t!" Violet immediately responded with an aghast expression on her face.

"You’re not even supposed to be on this floor!" she told him, looking at him with an incredulous look on her face, wondering how someone like him always seemed to get himself into some difficult situations.

"Nathan! Trust me! You should leave and—"

"—so you’re saying that regardless of what I do, I can never make you see me as a friend?" he asked, even as he slowly began to wail and loudly sob, with tears streaming down his face.

"Gosh! I’m such a fool. I thought you were genuine and truly wanted me, but you’re a liar just like the rest of them!"

Violet hadn’t deeply thought about it, but in that moment, she realized that there was something really wrong with Nathan. He had deep-seated issues that made him extra clingy, something she wasn’t sure was a good thing considering how hard it was for him to let go.

Watching him drop to his knees as he completely wailed loudly enough for her to be worried that his sobs would be heard by one of the servants, who would then discover his presence where he wasn’t supposed to be.

Quickly, without thinking too deeply about it, she hurriedly grabbed him and pulled him into the room before shutting the door after her. But she had just done so when she realized with an aghast look on her face that Cain was sensitive to smells.

There was no way he wouldn’t discover it the second he walked in through the door.

"Don’t move!" she told him, placing her hands on his shoulders as she said it, prepared to send him out the next second when Nathan immediately moved as he began to gush over everything in the room, with a sly expression on his face—one he easily managed to hide from Violet, who couldn’t see him from behind him.

"This place is huge! It’s magnificent!" he gushed, with Violet dragging him back as fast as she could before he could take more than a couple of steps.

"I said don’t move! Cain would be able to smell you the second he enters this place!"

"Oh!!!!" Nathan gasped, showing a completely devastated expression on his face as he moved closer to Violet to speak.

"...then do you think we can both just hang out in your room, then? I promise not to—"

"No!" Violet suddenly cut in before he could say more, pulling open the door and gesturing for him to get out, even as Nathan continued to stand inside with a dazed look on his face.

"I can’t let you stay! You should stay away, Nathan, for your own good!" she said, relieved to see him turn around to walk out the door, only to toss something right into the room, something Violet didn’t even notice had been tossed in there as she stood in front of the door and sadly bade Nathan goodbye.

"Take care of yourself! You’ll feel much better if you completely forgot that I existed!" Violet told him, surprised to watch him instantly dash forward into her arms, surprised by the sharpness of the steel wafting on him, which she didn’t remember to be that strong.

The hug took a long while before Violet finally closed the door behind him and shut the door on his face before she had to listen to whatever more he had to say.

Moving straight back to her room as she went to grab a bottle from Cain’s fridge, intent on simply taking a little to take the edge off, changing the stations as she looked for the most appropriate one, when she suddenly saw the breaking news—one that clearly described the attack on the building the Lords of the square districts had been having a serious meeting in.

Her eyes widened in fear and shock at the thought that Cain might be wounded or, worse, dead.

Just because werewolves could avoid bullets and were extremely strong didn’t mean they could easily recover from an explosion.

Yet, the more worried Violet became, the more worried she became about herself, wondering how she could suddenly care for someone who had done nothing but attack her, punish her, and show the tiniest bit of care.

’Violet! Get rid of these thoughts!’ she berated herself with a fierce expression on her face, even as she hurriedly walked back into Cain’s room, walking back and forth as she tried to figure out what she had to do.

"Maybe! I’ll just pretend to be sick?" she considered, thinking of ways to make herself be completely distanced from Cain long enough for her to get herself in order.

’I could break an arm!’ her mind slowly going to more extreme ways, only for her to realize that he would simply give her those blue potions for her to drink, which immediately made the two options completely useless to be used.

"Maybe it’s my head I need to hand to him on a —" she thought, still going through things in her mind, when she suddenly froze, her eyes squeezing tightly in confusion as she zoomed deeper into the weird object she could clearly see on the floor.

Moving closer until she could easily make out what it was, her mouth dropped open as she noticed that it was a male’s underwear, which seemed to have been soaked in something.

Her eyes widened in fear as she tried to wrap her head around how it could have gotten there, especially since it looked nothing like what Cain had in his closet.

Her heart thumped in realization that if Cain had walked in and found it, regardless of how important she was to him, he would have killed her in a heartbeat, considering how irrational he could be at times.

Violet didn’t want to touch it, but the lower she bent to smell it, the more disgusted she was as she realized that it was underwear completely covered in semen.

’Which psychopath would dare to do such a thing?’ she wondered, unable to understand why a person had to be to go that far.
