"The plan is simple, and I’d like each of you to think about it deeply enough before you vote against it! We need to destroy and take over a Vampire district!" Eldric said, even as he hurriedly continued to make sure he wasn’t interrupted.
"Any one is fine, but honestly, I think Lord Vazer is the one we should take out!" But he had barely finished when everyone at the table, except for Cain, erupted in anger.
"Are you crazy? Have you forgotten why we made the truce in the first instance? A war will destroy us all!" Harriet snapped.
"We can’t afford it! If a werewolf cannot protect his district, then he should not have it!" William hollered with clear anger in his tone.
"I refuse to put my resources in danger simply for an attack that will not benefit me in any way!" Grainger also added, to which Bella again nodded without actually saying anything.
Magnus also spoke to agree, "Collectively attacking a vampire district breaks the truce we agreed to, and I’m not ready to do that!" But Magnus had just spoken when Eldric again began to speak, almost like he had simply been waiting for each of them to say their piece.
"Hmmmm!!! Then if you all don’t agree, then you can actually agree with me that each lord should be in charge of their district, and the second they can no longer defend it, they should be removed as Lord over it?" he asked, not surprised by the silence that suddenly settled among them as they all realized that it was what Eldric had been aiming for, which both annoyed and frustrated them, even as Cain continued to stare calmly at his uncle.
"Fine! I see no problem with that!" William responded with a shrug of his shoulders before raising his hand to signal that he voted for it.
A heartbeat later, Grainger also raised his hand, followed by Bella, who saw no reason to wait.
Harriet was hesitant, and Magnus was the last to raise his hand, even as all eyes turned to Cain, who was yet to speak or move since he comfortably settled into his seat.
"Cain?" Eldric asked, and Cain simply shrugged his shoulders as he responded in a cool and calm tone.
"I abstain! But it’s not like it matters!" he said, to which Eldric immediately began to speak, only for Harriet to interrupt before he could say it.
"Then by order of the council, the proposal has been collectively agreed on and made law!" she said, a wild grin on her face as she sent a look at Eldric, who failed to hide his irritation fast enough.
"If there are any other matters, any of you can—" he began to speak, only to be cut off as the building they all sat in suddenly exploded with a thunderous bang.
Rubble collapsed in on them as each of them scattered in varying directions that ensured their survival, even as they distanced themselves from each other, not trusting anyone, and most of all Cain, not to try to kill them and take their districts for himself.
"Are you crazy! Are you mad?" Eldric screamed into the phone he held against his ear, yelling at the person he was speaking to on the other end of the line with clear and undiluted anger in his voice as he did.
"You threw a bomb at the building we all stayed in!" he screamed at the top of his lungs, even as he realized that the other person on the line was still aware of the seriousness of what had been done. "Are you trying to start a war? If that’s your plan, then we might as well go our separate ways!" Eldric barked at him, only to hear the person respond.
"Of course not, but think about it! They would even be more determined to get more resources for their districts after this attack and even more interested in Cain’s district once the attack succeeds!"
"...you are convinced that this attack—"
"—it will succeed, Eldric, and you’ll thank me for it! There’s no way anything can go wrong, and we both know it, especially with that curse of his!" The person on the other end of the line sounded mischievous, which made Eldric feel even less convinced.
"Whatever! Just don’t fuck it up, Javi!" he snapped before hanging up a second before his office was barged into by Fiona, his daughter, who was the last person he expected to see.
"I heard there was an explosion!" she gasped with visible anxiety on her face as she rushed to hug him, even as Eldric beamed with pride.
"I’m okay! It was just someone playing a prank!"
"Is everyone fine?" she immediately said, almost like that was what she desperately wanted to know. "There were no casualties, right?"
"Of course not! Stop worrying your little head about it! Everyone there is a powerful werewolf! I’m sure they all got away safely!" he responded, even as he hugged her tightly and led her back outside his office. Just because she was his daughter didn’t mean that he trusted her enough to leave her in a place only he was allowed to be.
Violet couldn’t remember the last time she had such a relaxing day. Breakfast and lunch were brought on time as she languished on the bed with ease, scrolling through TV stations on the TV that had been fixed to her room, which she had never touched.
Eating junk and creams that she had never eaten before until her stomach felt like it was on the edge of bursting. Falling asleep midway, only to wake up and continue watching another movie, which she felt she might enjoy. All her worries felt like they had completely disappeared, and Violet was in no great hurry to go looking for them until such a worry came looking for her.
Her attention had dove deep into the movie she was watching when she heard someone knocking heavily on the door of Cain’s room, something that would never have happened unless the person knew without a doubt that Cain wasn’t around.
Curious, she got up and headed out to unlock and open the door, surprised to see Nathan standing there.
"Violet!" he said with a smile, even as Violet’s eyes widened in shock, her gaze sliding over his limp and bandaged arm.
"Nathan! What are you doing here? This is Cain’s wing! No one is allowed here!" she told him, almost to ensure to correct the mistake he had made, only to hear him respond with a smile and a heavy stutter.
"I-I know, bu-but Cain is not around, and I thought it’d be fine for us to hang out for a while. He won’t find out!" Nathan softly said, shifting his weight nervously from one leg to another as he carefully waited and executed his plan.
"Can I come in?" he asked, with a sincere and misty gaze filled with nothing but anxious need. "It doesn’t have to be for long. You owe me!" he said, reminding her as he hammered the nail in.
