Mecha Devourer System-Chapter 223: The Weird Princess Ellianor (II)
The question.
Although it caught him off guard, it was not a subject he was unwilling to discuss.
"Like the ones that the Nakros use? I think it's quite fascinating…"
He said as she quietly turned from looking at the sky to him.
"You have not met with any other explicit display of magic, have you?"
She asked with interest.
"I think I might have hallucinated once and saw a man making people disappear out of existence with a single snap of his finger…"
"Oh, you met someone from the Demonifix family?"
She said, and he quietly shrugged.
"Or perhaps it's just a hallucination. After all, only the Nakros are blessed with the power of Arcane, aren't they?"
He said with a smile, though in his heart, Everlearn quietly etched that name deeper into his soul.
"Perhaps it is…"
She mused, turning back to the sky.
"What of you, Ellianor?"
He suddenly asked, and she turned back.
"What do you think of magic?"
"You said you find magic fascinating?" She said, continuing. "I think it's a burden."
BADUMP!
The sound of his heartbeat increasing in tempo quietly resonated within Everlearn.
"A worthy burden? An annoying burden, or a necessary burden?"
Everlearn said quietly, slipping onto his back as well.
Princess Ellianor sighed quietly for a moment before responding.
"My royal family would be more accepting of the worthy burden, while I think it's annoying, though also necessary."
"Ellianor…"
Everlearn called quietly, and she turned to find his divinely perfected face mere meters away.
"Have I just met a special human who controls magic?"
He asked, and her lips moved to respond when suddenly they paused.
Ellianor's eyes widened quietly before her lips curved into a smile.
"I felt like I was a fish who had been deviously hooked in the mouth and was now being quietly reeled in…"
She said.
"You have quite a way with words, Mr…"
"Everlearn."
He responded.
"Everlearn…" She mused under her breath.
"Whoever named you that must have had quite the poetic soul."
She said with a sweet smile, though she was quick to notice a long-lost expression crossing his eyes before he smiled again.
"That would have been a secret hidden from me…"
"Sounds like you've faced some difficulties."
"Just like you, right?"
He asked.
"Me?"
She asked with interest.
"Everyone has faced difficulties in their lives one way or another. It's not special in any way."
"But you know what I would consider special?"
He asked, and she hummed.
"What is?"
"A girl who controls magic."
He said, and she giggled.
"Curious about this magic thing still, are we?"
"I am."
"Everything comes with a price, including knowledge. Sometimes it is better to remain blissfully unaware."
She said.
"Do you think learning about it would hurt me?"
"It will."
She answered matter-of-factly.
"If you don't want me to know, then..." he said, pausing and watching curiosity light up in his eyes.
"You must be quite worried about me."
A pink color quietly slipped onto her cheeks.
"Could I have somehow charmed a princess, even though I am not a knight nor even wearing shiny armor?"
He flirted, and Princess Ellianor giggled.
"Don't even try it…"
She said with an eye roll.
"As you say, my lady. Though I have to say, it wouldn't have brought much harm."
He said with a smile, quietly turning back to the sky.
But before he did, she asked,
"Do you have an interest in me, Mr. Everlearn?"
"Everlearn," He said. "And yes, I do have an interest in you."
"Why is that?" She asked, but the light in her eyes dimmed as she continued.
"Oh, is it because I might be able to control magic? I guess that's pretty valuable."
"It's because you're special."
Everlearn said, and she paused, turning quietly to him.
"Special."
"Yes. It's not just about the magic. It's about the difference in aura. I come from the world outside, filled with normality."
"That must have made me even more receptive to something substantially different. Something… special."
He claimed.
"It's only natural that I would be intrigued by you, Ellianor."
He said quietly with a smile, though her heartbeat began to pound louder in her chest, loud enough that even he could hear it.
She turned back to the sky, her hands quietly crawling to her beating chest.
Silence reigned for a while before a smile appeared on her lips.
"Thank you."
She said quietly, and he exhaled softly, whispering.
"You're welcome."
They remained like this for a while before Everlearn sat upright.
"It's getting late, Princess Ellianor. I think it would be better to get some rest in the castle."
He said, rising fully to his feet and stretching a hand toward her.
Quietly, she pulled herself up.
A sudden shock in her feet left her unsteady, but before she could stumble, she found herself lifted off the ground and cradled in warm, strong hands that held her securely.
"Forgive me…"
He whispered, and Everlearn carried her in his arms to her room.
It was a place filled with adventure grimoires scattered across the floor, tables, and chairs, showing she was quite the reader.
Thankfully, her bed was free of them and was surprisingly kept tidy, and he lay her down gently.
He rose to his feet and quietly reached for the exit.
"I wouldn't mind your presence if you wish to stay…"
She suddenly said as his hand reached for the knob.
He paused for a moment before turning back to her, scratching the back of his head.
"I don't think I've done enough to deserve such a blessing."
CLINK!
"Goodnight, Princess…"
He said with a smile, and quietly she watched as the door closed and the sound of his footsteps faded down the stairs.
Ellianor stared at the door for a while before a sweet smile formed on her lips.
Her hand reached for her chest, which was pounding more than ever.
He had treated her so nicely, so warmly, and she had wanted him to stay, but he had refused.
She ought to be mad, or at least annoyed, yet she felt nothing but warmth sending an invigorating pulse through her.
"He's quite charming, isn't he?"
A voice suddenly rang through the room, deeper in tone.
It didn't come from Ellianor.
Instead, a sudden tattoo brimming with purple light appeared on her neck, forming a mouth.
"It's been months since you've said anything…"
Ellianor replied quietly.
"Well, it's also been months since something as interesting as this has happened."
"He's just an adventurer here to find the earring. That's nothing interesting…"
She said.
"Hm. Do you really have a missing earring, though?"
The voice asked in return, and she froze.
"I'm pretty sure you're just really lonely, Ell."
"I won't judge you, but compared to the annoying, bastardly old heads who've been coming in recently…"
"I simply found him more refreshing."
"I'm going to sleep."
She said, burying herself in the sheets.
Quietly, the mouth tattoo on her neck disappeared, and silence reigned in the room.
Yet even in the silence, a pair of purple eyes remained open, an otherworldly light revolving deep within their depths.
________________
Everlearn didn't bother going to sleep.
He remained awake, quietly searching through every nook and cranny of the castle.
Only now could he truly appreciate just how gigantic the castle really was.
There were more than twelve rooms, and none of them was empty.
If anything, they were filled to the brim with utilities expected of a room, without anything missing.
"Is it really only her living here?"
He muttered in quiet disbelief, moving from one door to another.
When the rays of sunlight shone, signifying the morning, Everlearn had searched through the first four floors, and he had results.
"A total of five earrings…"
He muttered.
Obviously, she couldn't have lost five earrings at once, but at least he hoped one of them would be the right one.
There were still about three more floors to go through, and once those were searched, the only remaining place would be her room.
By then, he should find the earring.
"Don't tell me you stayed awake all night?"
A voice suddenly echoed behind him, and Everlearn turned sharply.
He had been so engrossed in thought that he hadn't heard her footsteps.
"Princess Ellianor. Good morning."
He greeted, looking at the drowsy-eyed lady as she rubbed her eyes tiredly.
"Told you it's just Ellianor. Also, morning."
"Did you stay awake all night, or wake up very early?"
She asked.
"I'm just an early riser. Nothing for you to worry about. Also, you're just in time…"
Everlearn said as five earrings appeared in his palm, leaving Ellianor speechless.
