Chapter 299: Eclipse’s Sinister Scheme

However, it seemed that the remaining players were mostly leftovers from different guilds who didn’t have that kind of equipment, so they were easily ensnared by the trap.

With this kind of trap, if you were ensnared first, it would be hard to take any items to cure the status effect. You needed at least a healer or someone who was unaffected to hand you the curing potion.

If not, then you could only wait for your doom or until the status effect wore off.

Xin quickly helped Victor by throwing a [Cure] potion on his way, which quickly allowed him to break free from the paralyzing effect of the smog.

Though their visibility was still zero even with his dark vision inherent ability.

"What’s going on? Is this the boss’s doing?" Victor asked.

Xin shook his head. "I doubt it. The countdown is still ticking. That means that the boss should not appear yet."

"Then . . ." Victor’s face darkened when he finally realized what’s going on.

"Looks like Fighting Bunny was telling the truth," Xin muttered.

Victor gritted his teeth. "That’s right. Eclipse’s guild specializes in this kind of thing — setting traps and using status effect duds and all kinds of poisons and status effects to trap their victims before killing them. But what could he achieve by this?"

Using his race’s ability to see beyond the dark, Xin answered Victor. "It’s pretty obvious at this point. Eclipse plans to eliminate everyone here so he would have the monopoly on the information of the final boss."

"That bastard," Victor clenched his fists. "I’ll kill him if I find him."

"The fog is getting heavier. I think he’s using some kind of specialized item to hinder everyone’s dark vision null." Though Xin said that with a bored tone, he was surprised inside.

Looks like Maya, the greatest alchemist in all of Guldbane and one of the core members of Shadowblade, was really skilled if she managed to concoct these types of items.

His night vision didn’t work. Xin could only see silhouettes in the thick fog. What’s more, it seemed like there was something added to the fog to induce different kinds of status effects.

"Do you have something to combat the status effect?" Xin asked Victor.

"Yeah, though I was caught off guard the first time, I quickly interchanged my accessories to combat these kinds of things. But never mind that. If Eclipse really is behind all this, won’t he be in trouble if the other guilds find out?"

"What would he be in trouble for?" Xin asked with an even voice. "They were enemies from the start. And once he gets the final information for himself to monopolize, it’s his win.

"With the final information of the boss in his position, he could just restart and conquer this dungeon with his guild enough to compensate for the loss he incurred by backstabbing the other guilds."

Victor clicked his tongue. "So that’s his plan all along. He’s really shrewd. Looks like he isn’t the leader of Shadowblade for nothing."

"Let’s free the others first, and . . ." Xin didn’t finish his words when something slithered towards them.

In the thick, obscuring fog, both Xin and Victor swiftly evaded the enormous creature that charged towards them in a rampage.

The creature’s movements were erratic, fueled by a frenzied energy, and its monstrous form only became apparent as it neared them.

"What the hell is that?" Victor exclaimed.

"Looks like it’s his pet," Xin said, his eyes narrowing as he assessed the situation.

"But I thought they couldn’t use their pets until much later after they were defeated against Xavour?"

"It’s simple. Eclipse has another pet," Xin simply said.

Victor realized this, and acknowledging the plausibility of having two pets given the right circumstances.

And Eclipse’s Venomancer class was shrouded in mystery, so having two pets was likely.

Within seconds, the two of them heard the agonized screams and yells from the players who were being mercilessly killed one by one.

The previously desolate battlefield now echoed with the sounds of chaos and despair.

"That sly bastard, he will pay for this," Victor hissed through gritted teeth, his anger simmering.

Xin didn’t mind Victor and his curses as he reached into his inventory, retrieving an item.

The fog continued to shroud their surroundings, making it challenging to see, but Xin’s movements were deliberate and purposeful.

As he pulled out the item, a soft glow emanated from it, revealing a vial of purifying liquid.

With a swift motion, Xin tossed the vial on the ground.

The purifying liquid shattered on the ground, releasing a luminous burst that swiftly diffused through the thick smog in the air.

Xin realized he needed to use at least five more of those vials to completely disseminate the fog.

As each vial broke, the smog was promptly purified, revealing the obscured surroundings. Gradually, the chaotic battlefield became visible once again.

As the last remnants of the smog were dispelled, what stumbled upon them was a gargantuan Medusa with the body of a snake, and at its center was Eclipse.

Fighting Bunny was tightly wrapped within the snake’s tail, her struggling form evident.

The sheer scale and unexpected appearance of the monstrous creature momentarily stunned Xin and Victor.

Eclipse’s Venomancer abilities seemed far more formidable than anyone had anticipated.

The monstrous hybrid creature, with its Medusa head, loomed over the battlefield, its ominous presence sending shivers down the spines of those who beheld it.

"Hmm . . . ?" Eclipse’s attention shifted to Grey Smoke and Xin. "You two are still alive? No matter, I’ll just kill you after I’m done with this woman."

Fighting Bunny struggled and croaked out, "Y-you two . . . run . . ."

"Eclipse!" Victor shouted in an attempt to delay the man from killing Fighting Bunny. "What are you doing? Didn’t you sign a contract that prohibits you from betraying the other guilds in this expedition?!"

Eclipse sneered and laughed. "Contract? Do you think that will be enough to hold back Shadowblade? I don’t care about the contract and its penalties. Once I have the final information in my grasp, my guild will earn more than what I will gain and pay for breaking that lousy contract."
