Chapter 301: Eclipse’s Defeat and the Final Countdown

Victor found himself at a disadvantage in this fight.

"Looks like I’m done for." Despite the odds, Victor stifled a laugh.

From the start, he hadn’t entertained the notion of emerging victorious in a one-on-one duel against someone of Eclipse’s caliber.

Furthermore, the items weren’t on his side, and Eclipse likely had a few more items courtesy of Maya, their alchemist.

Victor stole a quick glance at the narrowing horizon. Two more minutes, and victory would be within their grasp.

Eclipse seized the opportunity, and exploited a momentary lapse in Victor’s guard.

A potent poison from Eclipse’s spell that no item or equipment could defend coursed through Victor’s veins, sapping his strength and rendering him vulnerable.

Despite his best efforts, Victor succumbed to Eclipse’s strikes.

The Venomancer’s cunning tactics and swift maneuvers proved too much for him. Not to mention the wide disparity between levels, spells, and items between them.

Eclipse’s laughter echoed in the tumultuous air as Victor was defeated and fell to the ground.

Xin fixed his gaze on Victor, who grinned and spoke, "Guess it’s all up to you now. Don’t let this bastard win, or I’ll be really pissed."

Eclipse laughed and sneered, "There’s no way you can win now," he told X.

The Snake Medusa still loomed ominously, and Eclipse’s face contorted with a triumphant grin as he addressed X.

"It’s only you left, and there’s no way you can defeat me with just your golems and mannequins. I am a Venomancer, and I can summon a plethora of poisonous creatures at my will. You’re not the only one who can summon creatures here, you know."

Eclipse raised his hand and offered, "However, I’ll make an exception for you. I won’t kill you and will even pay you what Ragnarok Reaper offered. And I’ll even give you half of what we got in this expedition. Just tell me the secret of how to max that NPC’s relationship level."

"Poppy," Xin corrected.

Eclipse paused and furrowed his brow. "Huh?"

"That child’s name is Poppy," Xin repeated.

Eclipse couldn’t retort for a moment, and his face twisted in a grimaced. "Hoi . . . do you think you still have the right to talk to me that way?"

Xin nodded, causing Eclipse to burst in frustration.

Usually, Eclipse wasn’t easily affected by his emotions. But he couldn’t comprehend why this mysterious figure known as X was getting on his nerves.

What an infuriating man!

"You’re alone, you know. What can you do?" Eclipse asked, his tone rising for the first time.

Unperturbed, Xin replied, "Actually, I was just waiting for you to finish off Grey Smoke."

Sorry, Victor, Xin thought.

For a moment, Eclipse seemed confused. "What?"

"Do you really think I came here alone?" Xin questioned with a flat voice.

Eclipse couldn’t react for a second, his gaze shifting left and right as he scanned for any signs of another player.

When he saw none, Eclipse chuckled. "Heh. Do you really think I’ll fall for your jokes? You’re only stalling for time—!"

Without warning, a colossal axe, gleaming with the promise of death, hurtled downward from the heavens. Following the ominous descent of the weapon, a dwarf clad in resplendent armor emerged, a living embodiment of vengeance.

Even caught off guard, Eclipse’s reflexes, honed by countless battles, were nothing short of extraordinary.

Swiftly, he barked orders to his Snake Medusa, commanding it to intercept the lethal blow aimed at his head.

The monstrous serpent coiled itself protectively, poised to shield its master from the imminent danger.

However, fate had other plans.

The battle axe, wielded by an unseen force, cleaved through the Snake Medusa with an unstoppable momentum.

Eclipse’s eyes widened in horror as the creature, meant to be his safeguard, was effortlessly sliced in half. The gleaming blade of the battle axe left a trail of shimmering brilliance as it cut through Eclipse at his very core.

In that moment, the battlefield fell into an eerie silence, disrupted only by the ghastly echoes of the Snake Medusa’s demise.

Eclipse was paralyzed by shock and disbelief as he beheld the last sight that would etch itself into his memory forever — an armored dwarf, the embodiment of his downfall, standing with an axe that dripped with the remnants of his once-mighty guardian.

A blurred name adorned the top of the dwarf’s head. In his dazed state, Eclipse lacked the chance to decipher his assailant’s name.

As the dwarf loomed over him, Eclipse gritted his teeth, an amalgamation of defiance and disbelief etched upon his face.

"Y-you," Eclipse managed to utter, the words escaping through clenched teeth, directed at X, who stood not far from him.

In response, Xin’s gaze met Eclipse’s. "I don’t divulge secrets, but when I do, I don’t joke about it," he said with a calm voice.

And with that, Eclipse vanished into a burst of particles, leaving behind nothing but failure and the dire consequences of his actions.

This had been a high-stakes gamble for him. If he had emerged victorious, Shadowblade would have soared to greater heights, securing the coveted number one spot in the world.

However, with defeat came the risk of losing everything, including his position of leadership.

Eclipse clicked his tongue, recognizing the bleak reality he now faced. He had been on the cusp of achieving his ultimate goal, only to see it slip away. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

His burning gaze locked onto X as he dissipated into nothingness.

In Eclipse’s eyes, it was all X’s fault.

’I will find out your identity, and I will get back at you,’ Eclipse vowed, his promise lingering in the air.

As everything concluded, Xin could finally release his pent-up breath.

"Glad that’s over," he muttered.

Hilda was unfazed by the encounter, and rested her axe over her shoulder, inquiring, "Who’s that guy? He seemed pissed, and his gaze looked like he wanted to kill you."

Xin glanced at Hilda. Leave it to her not to know the leader of Shadowblade, one of the top five guilds in the world.

"Nevermind him. He’s not important," Xin replied, avoiding further explanation.

He then shifted his attention to the timer on the horizon and declared, "It’s time for the final boss to appear."
