Chapter 307: The Elusive Lord Schrödinger

=====================

The DEVELOPERs Distress

=====================

"I can’t believe it . . . they actually cleared the Castle of Doom."

"It was Lord Schrodinger."

"I knew it!"

"At this point, I’m not surprised anymore!"

"The good news is we finally got his real identity!"

"Really?"

"Who is he?"

"His name is Xin in real life."

"Finally, we cornered that bugged rogue. We can finally fix everything!"

"See, I told you all we had to do was wait and see. Eventually, he would make a ruckus and expose himself."

"How did you find him?"

"Since the Seven Wonders has a newly made system, its structure was different, and we could access all its information bypassing Lumina’s defense system."

"That’s good to hear."

"Yeah. I don’t want that central AI to take control of everything."

"Now the question is . . . how are we going to approach this?"

"That’s right. We have to be discreet and not resort to violence."

"How about we bribe him with money and force him to delete his account?"

"We can’t force him to do anything he doesn’t want. He acquired that ’bug’ fair and square. It’s our fault, so we can’t exactly demand anything from him."

"Then we’ll start by attempting to bribe him, and if that doesn’t work, we’ll resort to intimidation, using force and fear."

"Hmm . . . will that work?"

"Firstly, are we absolutely certain that this Xin is indeed Lord Schrodinger?"

"All player IDs number are hidden by Lumina, so we can only assume that Xin is Lord Schrodinger based on his gaming name, class and abilities."

"But did you see his avatar’s appearance?"

There was silence in the room, and no one could speak up first.

"He’s really careful and wore a cloak. The cameras we managed to retrieve from the Castle of Doom didn’t show him much; they focused on the main players instead."

"Does that mean we’re not entirely sure that this Lord Schrodinger is really Xin?! Are we just making conjectures here?"

Heavy silence descended in the room.

". . . Yeah."

"Yeah won’t cut it! We can’t bribe the wrong guy! In fact, we can’t approach anyone until we’re sure that he is really Lord Schrodinger!"

"But . . . they have the same gaming name and the same abilities. Who else could it be?"

"He could have changed his name by now! He’s not the only one who have that class. And with Lumina being a pain in the ass, we could lose him in this sea of players again!"

"Then . . . what about Xin?"

"Until we have concrete evidence that Lord Schrodinger is really Xin –– like an undeniable image of him and his abilities, or even just a quick snap of his avatar –– we can’t act based on conjectures alone."

The rest of the developers looked at each other and sighed. That’s near impossible, considering that Lumina was protecting the players, and obtaining their real identities through their ID numbers was even more improbable.

Looks like Lord Schrodinger will get away again.

"Then what are we going to do about Xin?"

"We’ll still reach out to him, but I doubt that he would tell us anything. As long as we don’t have any concrete evidence against him, I have a feeling that he would just deny everything."

"However, we’ll still keep an eye on this player. He is our first suspect as being Lord Schrodinger, after all."

"I don’t know how we’ll do that when we can’t locate players once they’re out there in Guildbane unless an error occurred or someone had reported them."

"Lumina is such a pain in the ass. Who designed her anyway?!"

While the developers were having their stress meeting, Xiaxia reveled in the joy of securing her prized signatures, hugging her autograph with a beaming smile.

On the side note, Ragnar and the others shifted their focus to more serious matters.

"Sorry to call you at this hour," Ragnar began, "If you don’t mind, we’d like to talk to you. I have prepared a private room for us."

Xiaxia seemed to have recovered, and her soul jolted back into her body. "Private . . . room?"

She was shocked that they had prepared such a room just to meet Xin!

What had her brother done?!

"What is this about?" Xin asked, feigning ignorance.

Ragnar and the others exchanged a knowing look.

"Let’s cut to the chase. You know why we’re here," Flux said.

Xin knew what they were trying to do. They were attempting to corner him into revealing information about Lord Schrödinger.

"I don’t," Xin said with an even voice.

"Let’s discuss this somewhere private. If you would give us some of your time," Ragnar said and led the way towards the private room.

The others could only follow his lead.

Once inside the room, everyone took their seats, and Xiaxia was the one who broke the silence first.

"Uhm . . . what did my brother do? He didn’t cause trouble with your guild, right?"

Kelly shook her head. "Not really. In fact, we owe our victory in the Castle of Doom to Xin here."

"I knew it! Xin, apologize to them right now. Please don’t sue us. My brother only plays recently and he doesn’t know that ropes yet . . . Wait, what?"

"We believe that Xin here is Lord Schrödinger, who secretly entered with us into the Castle of Doom," Ragnar began and explained the events to Xiaxia and Seraphina.

When he finished, Xiaxia’s mouth fell wide open, while Seraphina wasn’t perturbed in the least, as if she already knew what had happened.

"And you believe this Lord Schrödinger guy is me?" Xin asked them without an inch of emotion on his face.

"Who else could it be but you?" Kelly insisted. "You have the same name and the same class of summoning golems."

Xin shook his head. "I have already changed my name a day ago, so this Lord Schrödinger can’t be me. We may have the same abilities, but it’s only a given in the game for players to have the same class as others."

Flux and Ragnar wore serious expressions, while Kelly frowned and pouted.

"So you’re denying it?" Kelly asked.

"Yes," Xin said, straight to the point.
