Chapter 308: Deny to Death

Flux crossed his arms. "So what you’re saying is . . . someone stole your name, Lord Schrödinger, when you changed it and this player secretly entered into our ranks during our expedition while using your name?"

Xin nodded. His expression didn’t give anything away. "I say that’s plausible. He must have known about my ability of creating golems, which coincided with his ability. So he devised a plan to enter into your ranks using my former gaming name, and put the blame in me."

Xin wanted to pat himself on the back for a job well done at lying. He could be a novelist by how skillfully he was fabricating a fantasy.

"Do you know how many players are in the game?" Xin continued. "And you’re telling me that at least none of them have the same class as me?"

Flux and Ragnar stole glances at each other. It seemed they were right with their hunch – Xin would deny everything.

They acknowledged that he spoke plausible facts, but right now, he was the number one suspect of being Lord Schrödinger.

"No way," Kelly muttered. "You’re clearly denying it."

"What reason would I deny it?" Xin asked with a straight face.

The others didn’t say.

"It’s because you will get in trouble," Flux said.

Xin blinked. "Why would I get in trouble? It’s not me who infiltrated your camp. Or do you have evidence that it was really me, except for the gaming name that could be changed and the class that could be available to anyone?"

Kelly’s face was red with frustration, while Ragnar and Flux’s faces remained impassive.

Looks like they already knew that they wouldn’t get anything from him, and yet they still came. Xin thought that they must be really desperate.

"A shame," Ragnar stood to his feet. "If you’re really Lord Schrödinger, then my guild is ready to offer you a core member position with a monthly salary ranging from $100,000 to a million dollars.

"What’s more, you have the first pick of items upon successful clears and boss kills. Your lodging and food will also be free in a five star hotel. You’ll also have paid vacation leave with all expenses covered by the guild, regardless of the country you choose and the duration of your stay – first class, of course."

"Eh?" Xiaxia was the one who was shocked at the sudden offer that came out of nowhere.

One moment they were threatening Xin and the next they were offering him luxurious contracts to partake in their guild.

Flux took a deep breath and said, "We will extend the same offer and even more. If you dislike restrictions, such as the excuses some solo players make, we can tailor your schedule. You don’t have to be in the guild all the time."

"Eh?" Xiaxia’s eyes rounded.

"Our guild can offer you the same contract, plus you’ll get a lot of pretty women!" Kelly wasn’t going to back down.

"Eh?!" Xiaxia’s mouth dropped, while Seraphina stared daggers at Kelly.

"I think providing women while his girlfriend is here is disrespectful, don’t you think?" Seraphina commented sharply. "And you’re a fellow woman too. Have you no shame?"

"Guk. S-sorry," Kelly immediately apologized.

"There’s no need to worry. I’m not that Lord Schrödinger, so I won’t take credit for his actions. I won’t enter any guild," Xin said with finality.

"Eh?!" Xiaxia wanted to slap her brother right then and there.

"Is that so?" Ragnar closed his eyes for a moment before he opened them and said seriously, "A shame. I guess I will see you around then, Xin . . ."

"W-wait . . ." Xiaxia extended her hand to stop Ragnar from leaving.

"A pity," Flux seconded and followed Ragnar towards the door.

"Xin, they’re all leaving. Aren’t you going to do or say something?" Xiaxia exclaimed in a panic.

Xin nodded. "Be careful on your way."

Xiaxia slapped him on the head, but then she realized that this was no time to fool around with her brother.

"Wait. Let me talk to him for a second," Xiaxia said, but the three had already left.

"W-wait . . ." Xiaxia extended her hand in desperation but they were no more.

"Forget it," Xin said while sipping his tea without care.

Xiaxia grumbled and slapped him on the back again, berating as she said, "What are you doing? That deal is once in a lifetime, and you just pass it up! Don’t you know how hard it is to get inside Brotherhood Legion and Doombringers? Not to mention becoming a core member? It’s like taking a series of board exams in real life, and you still can’t pass the hundredth time."

"I don’t know what you’re saying," Xin muttered.

"The point is, why did you pass up such an offer?!"

"It’s because I’m not that guy they were talking about," Xin said simply.

Xiaxia seemed to have realized something and finally followed the conversation. She just lost her ability to think upon hearing the extravagant offers from the guilds.

"Are you really not the Lord Schrödinger they were talking about?" Xiaxia asked, eyes scrutinizing Xin.

"You’ve been in your room all day while the guilds were in the Castle of Doom," added Seraphina.

"That’s right. What are you doing cooped up in there?" Xiaxia asked suspiciously.

Xin looked to the side and muttered, "That’s none of your business."

Xiaxia pinched Xin’s cheek and urged. "None of my business my ass. Spill it. What have you been up to?"

Xin merely thwarted her hand and nonchalantly took to his feet. "Do you really think that someone like me could slip past those top guilds and even help them defeat a boss and even clear the Castle of Doom?"

Xiaxia paused and thought for a second. "Now that you mentioned it . . . nope."

"Then end of story." Xin was about to leave when Xiaxia called him again.

"Then what are you doing in your room all day?" Xiaxia asked in exasperation.

"Private stuff," Xin only said, leaving the two women to their own thoughts.

Seraphina blinked. "Private . . . ?"

"Stuff . . . ?" Xiaxia finished, equally dazed.

Then the two women looked at each other while Seraphina blushed.

Xiaxia wanted to punch Xin in the face. "That disgusting pervert. What does he think he is saying in front of beautiful maidens?"
