Chapter 359: Consequences of Loyalty

With a final nod of appreciation, Satomi turned to her fellow Yokai, her demeanor filled with relief. "From now on, we welcome our comrades into our villages and treat them as our own."

The villagers all agreed and expressed their thanks to Lord Scrooge and the others.

Sylvan was over the moon with joy, while the rest didn’t quite know how to react to all the attention. In the first place, it was only Sylvan who was intent on saving the Yokais and they were only watching from the side.

They weren’t even keen on helping in the first place, and it was embarrassing that they were receiving sincere thanks and even gifts from the Yokais

And as the sun began to set on the horizon, casting long shadows across the clearing, Lord Scrooge and his companions stood alongside the Yokai, their spirits lifted by rewards that they had received.

Satomi decided it was best to change the layout of their village since it had been compromised. She handed them the new map detailing the location of the new village, emphasizing that their loyalty and assistance had earned them a warm welcome in the community.

This news brought joy to Sylvan, as it meant he could visit the village anytime he wanted.

Meanwhile, Xin and the others promised not to disclose the new map of Yamamura village.

Eventually, they decided it was time to log out and rest for the day.

While Xin and the others were happy and checking their loots, Nightshade was reporting to Doom Harbinger about what had happened with the Yokai village.

"What do you mean you wouldn’t do anything?" Nightshade said, exasperated. He couldn’t believe he was hearing this from Doom Harbinger’s mouth. "Are you just going to let Sylvan, Grey Smoke, and his group get away with this?"

Doom Harbinger sighed heavily, forcing himself away from the loads of papers on his desk. "Grey Smoke helped us clear the Castle of Doom, and the golem-summoning Lord Scrooge is probably Lord Schrodinger, the one who brought us victory in the same dungeon that brought us fame and tons of treasures. Do I need to say anything more?"

Nightshade pressed his lips together tightly. "But if you let this slide, then others will laugh at us."

"No they won’t. Let Victor and the others have their first warning, end of story," Doom Harbinger retorted.

"But . . ." Nightshade began, only to be interrupted by Doom Harbinger’s piercing stare.

"You’re the vice leader of this guild; you should know the reasons why more than anyone else in here," Doom Harbinger stated firmly.

Nightshade remained silent, his frustration evident.

"We’re already busy as it is because of dungeon clearing and guild wars; we don’t have time to be fighting solo players. Besides, I have already made a deal with Sylvan that we won’t pursue them if he doesn’t make the map incident public and wouldn’t pursue legal actions against Ignis and us," Doom Harbinger explained.

"What? You did?! Why?! We could definitely take them on!" Nightshade exclaimed, shocked by the revelation.

"Why?" Doom Harbinger frowned, his glare piercing through Nightshade. "You’re really asking me that when you didn’t even authenticate the source of the Yamamura map? If Sylvan had pressed charges against those solo players who auctioned you that map, do you really think that Doom Harbinger’s name wouldn’t be stomped in the mud?"

"We acquired that map fair and square, and whatever internal conflict Ignis’s group and Sylvan had, we’re already out of it," Nightshade defended.

Doom Harbinger shook his head and returned to his work. "Say that to the press and the public," he snorted.

"I expected you to be smarter than that since your position demands a level of level-headedness and smartness for your position. But what are you doing, fighting the Yokais of all things? Now we’re banned from entering the village! Even the map that you bought for millions wasn’t even useful now!"

Nightshade couldn’t believe what he had heard. "That can’t be right. We have gone there. We’ve seen it all, even the Nine-Tailed Kitsune! We have fought with them!"

Doom Harbinger took a deep breath. "The Kitsune had probably changed the layout of the forest and hidden their village. We have paid millions for nothing with that map. So the question is . . . are you ready to face the consequences of your actions?"

"But it wasn’t me! It’s those accursed solo players who had engaged the Yokais in the first place!" Nightshade defended himself, but Doom Harbinger’s sharp glares shut him up.

"Is that your excuse? Do you want to tell the board of directors that?" Doom Harbinger questioned.

Nightshade couldn’t say anything for a moment before he resigned himself, pushing up his glasses as he spoke with resignation and seriousness. "I will resign from my position as the vice leader to atone for my bad judgment."

"That’s for the best than ’Kicked Out’ on your resignation," said Doom Harbinger dismissively. "Now, if you will excuse me, I have a lot of things to do, so you can go now."

Nightshade gritted his teeth in silence and left the room. This was a very bad day for him, and it was all Ignis and the others’ fault.

"Damn it!" Nightshade hissed, and just when he was in the hallway, he saw Fallen.

Fallen only stared at him under his nose before heading to Doom Harbinger’s office.

Nightshade was about to cry in despair and frustration. He was a calm and level-headed guy, and he had worked for years just to get to his position. However, one blunder and he was out of Doombringers, replaced.

He was certain that Fallen would take his place as the new vice leader. It wasn’t fair since he had done his best to hold his position for so many years. He had lost count of how many times he had cleared dungeons, defeated bosses, and won wars for the guild. But one wrong move, and he was out.

This world wasn’t fair. It wasn’t fair at all!
