Chapter 378: Confrontation with the Vampire Queen

"So . . . what do you need?" Evangeline inquired from the other end.

Xin drew in a deep breath, gathering his thoughts before responding, "Where are you? Are you in some sort of trouble?"

"Trouble? What are you talking about?" Evangeline’s voice held a hint of confusion.

Xin felt equally perplexed. Her tone didn’t suggest she was being pursued by thousands of players.

Yet, the images circulating on the internet clearly depicted her as the World Boss. There couldn’t be a mistake on his part.

Could Evangeline have a twin he didn’t know about? But that seemed unlikely since she was the Vampire Queen, a singular entity.

"Players aren’t after you at all?" Xin asked, seeking clarification.

"Hmm . . . now that you mention it, there are quite a few pests after me. What’s this all about?" Evangeline’s tone shifted, indicating she was beginning to grasp the situation.

Xin closed his eyes tightly and sighed. "Why didn’t you tell me about it?"

"Huh?! Why would I tell you about it? They aren’t important, weaker than insects. I can totally take care of them," Evangeline replied without care.

But for how long, Xin wondered. If thousands of players were going to come after her, he feared for her safety.

"Where are you?" Xin asked, concern evident in his voice.

"Why?" Evangeline’s response was tinged with curiosity.

"I’ll come to you."

"No need. I’m right behind you."

Xin froze, startled by Evangeline’s sudden appearance beside him.

"What on earth?! How did you get here?" he asked, his surprise evident before quickly scanning their surroundings to ensure nobody had noticed her arrival.

Evangeline tilted her head to the side and sighed, her childlike form giving her a cheeky, spoiled appearance.

"What? I can go here and there without effort. I can create a rift in the dimension and travel anywhere I want."

So that’s how she had traveled so much in just the span of less than a month, Xin realized. But that wasn’t important right now.

"You’re being targeted by players because your identity has been exposed as a World Boss," Xin explained.

Evangeline’s bored expression remained unchanged. "Really?" She then looked to the side, biting her thumb in annoyance. "No wonder these pests were after me left and right. They were beginning to get annoying."

Xin’s mind raced as he tried to formulate a plan. Evangeline couldn’t simply avoid players; Guildbane was teeming with them, and she would undoubtedly be chased relentlessly all day long.

"Can you change your appearance?" Xin asked, hoping for a solution.

The images circulating on the net depicted her in her child form, so perhaps if she transformed into an adult, she might be able to slip under the radar?

However, Xin quickly dismissed the idea. Even if Evangeline was in her adult form, players would inevitably notice her because she resembled her child counterpart and they would definitely check her extraordinary stats.

It only took one curious player to uncover the truth, as evidenced by recent events.

According to his research, a player had stumbled upon Evangeline in town, drawn to her extraordinary presence.

Upon checking her stats, they were astounded by her immense power. And when the player confronted her outside of town, it was confirmed that she could indeed be challenged and was unmistakably a World Boss.

Indeed, Evangeline stood out starkly from ordinary NPCs. Her aura and appearance exuded a distinct strength that drew players to investigate her further.

As Xin pondered the situation, he realized that it was only a matter of time before Evangeline would inevitably be uncovered as a World Boss. Her undeniable presence made her a magnet for curious players, ultimately leading to her discovery.

Xin sighed heavily, realizing that a simple change in appearance wouldn’t be enough to evade the relentless pursuit of determined players. They would undoubtedly see through any disguise, driven by the allure of challenging such a formidable opponent.

"I can only change into a mature adult and a child," Evangeline clarified.

"Can you wear a mask?" Xin suggested, grasping for any possible solution.

Evangeline dismissed the idea almost instantly. "Why would I hide my appearance? If those insects want to come, then let them come! I’ll make them regret ever challenging me! Hohohoho!" Her laughter echoed with a hint of mischief.

Xin stared at her with a deadpan expression. Why had he even bothered? He knew that Evangeline was far too proud to alter her appearance or conceal herself. Or even evade pursuers and enemies. She would rather kill them on the spot.

"It’s good that food is coming my way. I don’t have to lift a finger. Though I’m very picky with the blood I consume, so most would probably just die. Hohohohoho," Evangeline added casually, her tone dripping with arrogance.

Xin was about to say something when he heard footsteps approaching their direction. He immediately pulled up his cloak to conceal his face, just in time as hundreds of players emerged.

"There she is!"

"I told you I saw her with some player!"

"What’s going on? Who’s the player with her?"

"Lord Scrooge? Who’s that?"

"That’s not important. The world boss is in front of us! Be careful, she’s a vampire!"

Evangeline frowned, her eyes narrowing to slits as they turned blood-red. "That’s Vampire Queen to you, you lowly fools!"

Without any visible action, the player who had spoken just moments before burst into blood and died instantly.

Everyone gasped in horror, and Xin was left stunned. The fallen player’s level was already nearing 150, yet Evangeline had dispatched him with ease, without batting an eyelid.

She was that strong!

The faces of the remaining players turned wary, but none dared to retreat.

"Hold your ground, men! It’s a world boss! It’s supposed to be powerful!" one of them urged, trying to bolster their resolve.

Evangeline faced them with a chilling smile, revealing the two fangs protruding from her mouth. "Is that so? You know I’m powerful, yet you still dared to attack me?! Fools, you’re asking for death!" Her voice dripped with menace as she addressed the group.
