Chapter 587: Chapter 75 Wu Jiang’s Scheme

When Lu Hong retreated from the Third Fortress back to the Second for rest and reorganization, the Holy Divine Empire, Snowy Region, and Eagle Alliance — three forces — embroiled in a fierce onslaught against the Abyss of Extreme Magic, unfolded their assault.

At first, Tai’e had forged a passage here and set up a military force of one million strong. Almost half of the Beastman Empire’s assets were tied up here. General Barley and Prince Wu Jiang themselves had taken their seats, turning this into a tough nut for the allied forces of the three parties to crack, with a price almost unimaginable to pay.

Yet even knowing the heavy cost, the three sides still decided to join forces, no longer allowing the Beastman Empire room for growth.

The Abyss of Extreme Magic lay in a secluded area, on the edge of the Star Sea, where there was no normal sunrise and sunset, only endless night.

Inside the military base left by the Imperial Demon-Slaying Army, General Barley leaned back in the command center chair. With each breath, he could feel the unique aura of the Abyss of Extreme Magic flow into him, sensing his power grow, albeit faintly but tangibly nonetheless.

"If I stay here for ten years, I am certain I can break through the eighth level of Bloodline Power and become a Demigod," Barley mused.

Hearing Barley’s sentiments, Prince Wu Jiang offered him a cup of fine wine, "Drink?"

"Better not," Barley waved his hand and refused. "Humans and the Snow Race won’t let us occupy the Abyss of Extreme Magic freely. We must stay vigilant at all times to meet their attack."

"It’s not a big deal, drinking this won’t make me drunk. The magic power of the Abyss of Extreme Magic has gifted our one million strong Beastman force, significantly boosting our overall power — by at least fifty percent stronger than before. Now I’m actually looking forward to it!"

Barley calmly looked at him and asked, "Wu Jiang, you’re close to breaking through the eighth level of Bloodline Power, aren’t you?"

Wu Jiang smiled slightly, "Still far off. Are you worried about something?"

"Yes," Barley didn’t deny and spoke forthrightly, "Initially, my brother seized the throne that should have been yours. I know you’ve been holding back your resentment ever since."

"Oh?"

"There’s no need to deny it, but I hope that even if you break through to become a Demigod, you will hold off on making trouble for Tai’e for now. Once the Beastman Empire truly dominates the Star Sea, I will support you in using our Leonheart royal family’s most ancient traditions to take back the throne," Barley said gravely. "And not through war, which would only lead to internal strife within the Beastman Empire, and hand over an easy advantage to the Snowy Region and the Human Race."

"Barley, do you think too little of me, Wu Jiang?" A chuckle escaped Prince Wu Jiang, "I’m not some hothead who can’t prioritize."

"Good to hear," Barley nodded, then slightly closed his eyes, "Same as usual, you keep watch in the first half of the night, then call for me in the latter half."

"Sure, sure, sure." Wu Jiang downed his cup of fine wine in one gulp, a hint of resentment flickering in his eyes.

After drinking three more full cups of wine, Wu Jiang leisurely stepped out of the command center and proceeded to the regular patrol along the defensive line of the Abyss of Extreme Magic.

According to Wu Jiang’s opinion, such patrols were completely unnecessary, but Barley thought otherwise. He believed that since the Abyss of Extreme Magic had been under human control for many years, there might be hidden passages, so caution was essential to ensure that the army would not be caught off guard by a surprise attack from a powerful being.

Being the Grand Marshal directly under Tai’e’s order, Barley had total command; Wu Jiang had no choice but to comply.

However, during each inspection, Wu Jiang was only going through the motions, not taking it to heart at all.

And today would be no exception.

But during Wu Jiang’s patrol, a magic illumination lit up the night sky.

Is it the Human Race? Have they finally come to attack? Wu Jiang was stunned, then a happy smile bloomed across his face.

Sensing the anomaly, several generals hurriedly found Wu Jiang, "Your Highness, we have detected a large force of the Human Alliance ahead. How do we respond?"

"Remove the forward defenses and let them in."

To Wu Jiang’s commands, the Beastman generals looked visibly surprised, "Your Highness? Are we giving up this military base?"

"Yes."

Once they confirmed that Wu Jiang was not joking, a Beastman general spoke up, "That’s not possible. This military base is well-equipped, and using it to resist the Human Alliance is very advantageous. Why would we give it up for nothing? I request to see Marshal Barley!"

Before the speaking general could take half a step, Wu Jiang’s hand shot out and grabbed his throat, "Marshal Barley has just gone to the Abyss of Extreme Magic rift and isn’t here at the base right now. I call the shots here!"

"But... but I clearly saw..." Before the general could finish his words, Wu Jiang twisted his neck, killing him.

A body fell to the ground, and Wu Jiang surveyed the crowd with a grave voice, "Who else refuses to comply now?"

"My command is yours!" Wu Jiang’s loyal followers knelt on one knee, expressing their loyalty, while those originally under Barret’s command still hesitated at this moment.

Seeing Wu Jiang’s gaze turn frostier, they had no choice but to agree, "My command is yours!"

"Good, immediately order a silent withdrawal of the entire army, without any noise. Additionally, Mang Xin, you stay behind."

After dismissing the group of generals, Wu Jiang immediately said to Mang Xin, "You are skilled in magic. Seal the command post with magic so that no one can approach, and prepare the Thunderclap Stones, burying them beneath the military foundation. Go do it now!"

"Yes!" Mang Xin trembled inwardly; from Wu Jiang’s words, he understood the implication all too clearly. Barret was in slumber within the command post, and Wu Jiang planned to use the human coalition’s blade to eliminate his opponent and, at the same time, blow up the military base to deal a heavy blow to the human coalition.

After arranging his plan, Wu Jiang strode away, heading directly to the human coalition forces outside the military base.

Once the illumination magic was cast, Xie’an immediately knew their planned ambush had been discovered by the beastmen.

Yet, before they could launch a full assault, they saw Prince Wu Jiang leisurely stroll over.

Stopping a kilometer away from the human forces, Wu Jiang called out, "Who commands here? Let him come forward and speak."

With his mind full of doubts, Xie’an stepped out of the formation, "That would be me."

"Very well," Wu Jiang nodded, "You must feel regret that your attack was discovered by my beastmen scouts, don’t you?"

"So what if I do?" Xie’an huffed dissatisfiedly, "I can still retake the base with a full-on assault."

"Ha, there’s no need. I will return this military base to you; I hope you’ll keep it well, so I don’t take it back again."

"What?" Now Xie’an was even more perplexed; would someone really give away a military base that was easy to defend and difficult to attack?

Clearly, Xie’an didn’t believe it, "This must be an ambush you’ve set up, right?"

"All I’m saying is this; believe it or not." Wu Jiang finished, patted his behind, and turned to walk away.

At this moment, a powerful individual beside Xie’an spoke, "General, Wu Jiang is alone. This is the perfect chance to take him down!"

"Let him go," Xie’an shook his head, "If he dares come here alone, he must be prepared. Since he wishes to hand the base back to us, then let’s go and accept it."

"General?!" Hearing Xie’an’s word, the deputy generals and strongmen urgently tried to dissuade him, "You mustn’t! This is certainly Wu Jiang’s provocation; he must have set up an ambush. We must not be fooled!"

"Don’t worry; I have already figured it out." Xie’an revealed a smile, "He is playing a two-birds-with-one-stone game."

Seeing everyone still confused, Xie’an explained, "Why do we choose to attack in the early hours of the night? Isn’t it because Wu Jiang’s patrols are lax, giving us a better chance of a successful sneak attack?"

"And what does that prove?"

"That shows that our ambush plan was already accounted for by Wu Jiang."

"What?" As they listened to Xie’an, everyone was even more baffled, "General, please explain more clearly, we... we don’t understand."

Upon everyone’s request, Xie’an had to explain again, "We used an illusionist to conceal our movements for this ambush; how could we have been exposed so quickly? Therefore, I suspect that our spy who infiltrated the beastmen’s army is actually Wu Jiang’s man, allowing him to easily anticipate our plan and make arrangements. I’m guessing that now the entire military base only contains Barret, and we will surely take him down if we enter."

"Wu Jiang wants to use our hands to kill Barret, and, of course, I’m willing to do him this favor. Pass the word, all Third Transition Middle Stage powerhouses and above, enter the military base, surround the command post, and kill Barret!"

Under Xie’an’s arrangement, over three thousand mid-stage powerhouses surrounded the command post in perfect silence, not alerting the sleeping Barret.

Three thousand powerhouses formed a great array; a vast surge of magic power turned into a golden hammer, crashing down on the command post fiercely.

With a thunderous boom, wild blast waves swept across thousands of miles.

The next second, the roar of a lion echoed continuously in the night sky.

Standing with his hands behind his back atop a peak a kilometer away from the military base, Wu Jiang watched with a smile as the grand battle between humans and beastmen unfolded within the base.
