Chapter 252: I know them... But...

Fiona remained seated, clutching David tightly—her hands trembling, her breath heavy.

But her eyes... never left the masked figure walking away.

At last, with what little courage she could summon from her throat, she shouted—

"Who are you?!"

Her voice cracked with emotion.

But...

The masked figure didn’t turn.

No answer.

Only a pause in their steps.

Then—

VRRRUUUUMMM—

A portal emerged in front of Domina. A swirl of bluish-purple energy spiraled upward, forming a vertical vortex that pulsed like liquid glass.

Fiona held her breath.

Domina stepped in without hesitation. No glance back. No words.

The portal swallowed her whole... and vanished in an instant.

---

The atmosphere changed.

The air grew heavier, yet calm. Brimming with mystery.

The room was lined with floating screens, soft violet lights flickering in the air like stars in the dark.

At the center, Lilith sat gracefully on her throne—a curved seat that looked like an artifact from another world, wrapped in black velvet and obsidian frame.

On her lap sat Ruby, a messy-haired girl with bunny ears, resting calmly.

But the moment the portal opened in the middle of the chamber—

WHUMMMP—

Ruby’s head shot up.

Her eyes widened.

"Mamaaaa!!"

She leapt off Lilith’s lap and scampered forward with light steps, heading straight toward the figure emerging from the portal.

Domina.

"YAAAY!! MAMA’S BAAAACK!!"

Ruby jumped and hugged Domina’s waist without hesitation, laughing joyfully.

Domina... said nothing. But her hand slowly lifted, gently stroking Ruby’s head.

Lilith gave a faint smile.

But the moment was far from over.

WHUUUMMMM—

Another portal opened at the side of the room.

From within emerged a tall woman with flowing red hair, a trident in hand, and the lower half of her body shimmering in crimson serpent scales.

"Velmora," Lilith murmured.

Then another portal—this time, revealing a winged figure whose overly prominent chest seemed ill-suited for any armor, descending slowly.

"Morvessa."

And last, a soft crackle of thunder accompanied the arrival of a wild-eyed figure—clawed, bunny-eared, with a mess of hair and sharp gaze.

"Livia."

Now the three stood in the chamber.

Ruby spun around, eyes sparkling, bouncing with boundless energy.

"WAAAHH!! YOU’RE ALL SO COOOL!!" she shouted, fists pumping into the air.

"I wanna fight too! Just like Mama! Like Aunty Vel! Aunty Morvy! Aunty Livyyy!!"

She turned to Lilith—still full of spark—and asked innocently,

"Grandma... will I get to fight too someday?"

Lilith looked at her.

A few moments of silence.

Then she lowered her gaze slowly—gently brushing her granddaughter’s head with a touch warm, almost human.

Her smile was faint... yet sincere.

"...That depends on your father’s permission, my dear."

Fiona was still seated, clutching David tightly.

Her body trembled. David was still breathing... but barely.

"Please... hang in there..."

TAP. TAP.

Footsteps approached.

A man with a sharp jawline emerged from behind the rubble. His armor was cracked, his breathing heavy, but his eyes still gleamed with a competitive fire that felt—oddly—out of place in this situation.

Without a word, he stepped closer and, without asking, pried David from Fiona’s arms.

"Relax," he said flatly. "He’s not gonna die that easily."

Fiona blinked in shock. "W-Wait—who are you—?"

But the man had already turned sideways, muttering to himself with a smug grin,

"Tch. Not only he leveled up... he also gets plot armor now, huh...?"

And for some reason... he looked incredibly proud of that line.

He was the same guy who once ranted, a few dozen Chapters ago, about not only him leveling up.

---

More people began to emerge from their hiding spots.

From behind ruined cars. Inside shattered shops. On rooftops.

They had all... been watching.

Too afraid to act.

But now that the monster was gone—the crowd began to close in, slowly. Whispering voices spread like sparks.

"Was that... an S-Class monster...?"

"Who killed it?"

"I saw it! The one in the hoodie! They vanished through a portal!"

"Anyone get footage?"

"That thing looked even worse than a Mindless Monster..."

Fiona looked around. The stares. The murmurs. Phone cameras starting to rise.

But all she felt...

Was the cold in her fingers.

And David’s heartbeat—

Faint and slow—

Still pulsing under her touch.

---

The room was quiet. Soft white lights glowed gently across the semi-VIP hospital suite.

Fiona sat on the edge of the bed, now fully clothed—not just in her tank top and shorts. Both hands were wrapped around David’s, who was finally awake... though still weak.

David’s eyes moved—upward, then sideways... and finally rested on Fiona’s tired, but warm expression.

"...Fi...ona?"

Fiona snapped her head toward him.

Her eyes immediately welled up. But she smiled.

"You’re awake...!"

David blinked slowly, his whole body heavy.

"We’re... still alive?"

Before Fiona could answer, the room’s door clicked open quietly.

A tall, broad-shouldered man stepped in—jawline sharp, now wearing a dark-blue leather jacket with metallic accents. There was a smear of blood on the collar—but none of it his.

"...Yo," he greeted in a deadpan tone.

David sighed. "Greg."

Greg nodded. "You two got lucky. Not everyone did."

Fiona sat upright. "What do you mean?"

Greg leaned against the wall, arms crossed. His face was serious... maybe a bit too serious.

"The weird monster from that portal didn’t just show up in your zone. Turns out... multiple cities got hit."

David frowned. "...So this was a coordinated attack?"

Greg nodded. "But the strange part..."

He lowered his gaze briefly. Then looked at them again.

"All the attacks... were stopped by a masked individual."

Fiona froze. "A masked individual?"

Greg nodded again.

"White mask. Smiling face drawn on it. Animal-like features... Probably the same one you saw."

David’s body tensed. "So it wasn’t just one?"

"...Could be many. Or just one person moving absurdly fast. Still unclear."

Silence fell for a moment.

Then Greg took a deep breath... and his cheeks turned a bit red.

David glanced at him. "...Hey. Greg. What’s with you?"

Greg turned sharply. "Huh? Nothing. I’m fine."

"You just said you were attacked somewhere else," David squinted. "You got saved too?" 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Greg scratched the back of his neck. "Yeah... I almost got clawed by a giant hawk monster."

Fiona narrowed her eyes. "And?"

Greg let out a long sigh. "Someone saved me."

David raised a brow. "Who?"

"...A woman."

They both waited.

Greg stared at the floor.

"She appeared out of nowhere. Her lower body... was like a snake. But her upper body..."

His cheeks flushed deeper.

"...was beautiful."

David rolled his eyes. "Greg..."

"Her hair... the way she spoke... her voice..."

Greg closed his eyes like recalling a past life—twenty minutes ago.

"She said: ’Go, young man. Inform the other hunters.’"

David coughed. "You’re kidding me..."

"And the way she said ’young man’... Ahhh..." Greg clutched his chest. "It was... deep, bro..."

Fiona nearly choked on her water.

David stared at Greg blankly. "You... caught feelings?"

Greg leaned against the window, his silhouette bathed in moonlight.

"...Maybe."

"For a guy who looks like a manhwa protagonist... cool outfit, killer armor... And yet—"

Greg bowed his head.

"...I hope I can be more than just an NPC... in her heart."

Fiona covered her face. David exhaled.

"...God. He’s a simp."

----

The house lights were still on. Every window shut tight.

Inside, the tension hadn’t fully settled.

The front door burst open.

CLICK—THUD!

Nathan and Validia stepped in, both exhausted—clothes torn, dry blood staining their sleeves and jackets.

"Nathan!"

A panicked voice rang out from the living room.

Nathan’s father rushed in from the kitchen, eyes wide as he took in their condition.

"Are you two okay?!"

Nathan straightened up despite the pain in his shoulder.

"We’re fine, Dad," he replied quickly. "The monster is... dealt with."

Validia simply gave a faint nod behind him, one hand pressing on a small wound at her side.

Nathan’s father paused. His hands trembled slightly, but he exhaled in relief.

"Thank God..."

And then—DING.

The TV in the living room flickered on by itself, changing channels.

All eyes turned to the screen.

> Breaking News: Tower Crisis – Phase Two?

Twenty-one years after the first appearance of The Tower, the world is once again shaken by an unforeseen supernatural phenomenon.

In the past 48 hours, dozens of strange portals have been reported worldwide—from New York to Osaka.

New types of monsters have emerged. Several cities have suffered major destruction. The death toll has reached into the thousands.

But—amid the chaos—one thing has captured the attention of analysts and civilians alike.

The screen shifted to grainy footage:

A masked figure leaping across rooftops.

A blur wrapping around a monster like a whip.

Bird-like wings unfurling in thick mist.

Bunny ears flickering from behind rubble.

> The Masked Entities.

They appear silently, with no confirmed identity.

Each one dons a simple white mask—marked only with a smiling emoticon.

All seem to possess animal-like traits—serpentine lower bodies, feathered wings, twitching rabbit ears.

In the case of New Tricye, the city was spared total destruction thanks to one such figure appeared faster there than in the rest of the world.

Eyewitnesses claim... a masked entity eliminated a high-class monster in under a minute.

The Government and Hunter HQ have yet to issue an official statement.

Nathan slowly sank into the sofa.

Validia sat beside him, saying nothing.

His father stood frozen, arms wrapped around himself.

"White mask... animal features... I knwo they’re the Monster Girls, but.. around the world?" Nathan murmured.

Validia turned to look at him.

"Hmmm...." She frowned.

Nathan clenched his fist.

The screen displayed one last image:

A child standing amid the rubble, holding a wrinkled piece of paper.
