Chapter 285: Chapter 285: You’re Really Careless

Chantelle leaned to the side and saw a motorcycle fly into the scene, right through the crowd of bodyguards. Lone Wolf jumped on it and rode away, disappearing from their sight.

Strangely, Daniel’s men only chased after Lone Wolf for a short while before stopping.

Chantelle looked at Daniel, confused. He looked back at her, examining her face. Then, without a word, he picked her up and carried her straight to the Rolls Royce.

Inside the car, Philip and Russell were waiting with a special first-aid kit.

"I’m fine," Chantelle said, trying to stop them. But no one listened.

Philip and Russell started checking her quickly. After a moment, a deep frown appeared on Philip’s face.

Daniel’s voice was sharp and filled with anger. "What’s going on? Tell me now!"

"Calm down," Philip replied. "Chantie’s doing much better than before. It looks like Lone Wolf injected her with something that helped her condition."

Philip’s frown faded. He seemed more curious now about whatever drug Lone Wolf had used. Still, he didn’t dare ask Chantelle about it. Not while Daniel was around.

He knew Daniel might kill him for it.

"We’ll get a clearer picture if we run full tests at the hospital," Russell added. He packed up his tools and gave Chantelle a look like he wanted to say more, but he choked back his words.

Chantelle gave him a small shake of her head, telling him to stay silent.

The car sped down the highway. Daniel didn’t say a word and he wore a hideous face.

Chantelle could tell he was angry. She knew it was because her decision had put both her and the kids in danger.

Earlier, inside the private room, it wasn’t just Stephanie and Kane who sensed something strange about Camille. Daniel had noticed it too.

He had looked at Chantelle, hoping she’d understand and stay in the room with Jude. She was supposed to protect the kids as he would handle Camille alone.

But Chantelle ignored his warning. She was afraid Camille might trick him. She also wanted to find out if someone else was pulling the strings behind the scenes. That’s why she stepped out to investigate on her own.

It didn’t go well. She nearly died in that private room filled with poisonous gas.

She had clearly underestimated her enemy. She forgot she was still weak from her illness.

Even so, she didn’t regret what she did. If Camille had only been after Daniel, she would’ve stayed out of it.

But now, Camille had dragged her and the kids into the mess. She couldn’t just sit and wait for the tragedy to happen. She couldn’t rely on Daniel alone to keep them safe.

The past six years had shaped Chantelle into a strong, independent woman. She had learned not to depend on anyone.

When they arrived at the hospital, Daniel stayed with her during the tests. The results showed that she had been injected with other drugs too. Luckily, none of them seemed to harm her body so far.

Even with the hospital’s report, Daniel couldn’t relax. He wanted to get the original drug so Philip could study it.

"I’ll get the drug from Lone Wolf myself," Chantelle said. She already knew what Daniel was thinking. She didn’t want him to face Lone Wolf again.

She had a feeling that Lone Wolf, the drug, and Trenton were all somehow connected.

Trenton had once told her she’d live a long life but filled with pain.

Daniel was struggling to maintain his composure. His clenched his jaw, and his eyes were cold. It took him a moment before he talked.

"Even if you had nothing to do with this... I’d still go after him."

"You know he’s good at hiding," Chantelle said. "Why don’t I track him down? Once I get the drug, I’ll hand him over to you. How does that sound?"

However, Daniel took it the wrong way. His voice became sharper and filled with anger that hadn’t been there before.

He didn’t even sound like himself anymore.

"So, you two got along together these past few hours, huh?" he said as he squinted. "What’s wrong? Afraid I’ll kill him?"

"He has a drug that might save my life," Chantelle replied. "Of course, I don’t want him dead."

"He may have the drug that can save your life, but I have the one that can save him," Daniel said flatly. "So there’s no need to chase him down. He’ll come to us eventually."

Before Chantelle could respond, Daniel suddenly scooped her up in his arms.

Chantelle was startled by his action. She was just about to fight back when her eyes met his. She stopped struggling instantly.

There was worry and helplessness in his eyes.

Still in a daze, Chantelle didn’t notice when Daniel stood up. He gave her a light jerk upward. On instinct, she wrapped her arms around his neck.

Only then did he show the faintest hint of a smile.

"Mr. Wilson, you really have some strange hobbies." Chantelle knew the more she moved around in his arms, the more he’d take it as some kind of playful teasing. So instead, she gave up and stayed still.

She had to admit, Daniel was a good-looking man. His face and his body, there’s nothing to complain about. Lying in his arms didn’t feel bad at all.

"This is just some harmless fun between husband and wife," Daniel said flatly.

"Mommy! Mommy, are you okay?" Kane suddenly ran into the room and bumped right into Daniel’s knees.

He nearly lost his balance, but Railer, who was right behind him, quickly caught him.

"Ugh, Daddy, you’re always staring at Mommy. Can’t you care about your son too? Your long legs almost kicked me across the room."

Kane rubbed his nose with a pitiful look on his face.

Suddenly, Chantelle’s expression changed. She tapped Daniel’s shoulder, signaling him to put her down.

Daniel looked in the direction she was staring and saw blood coming out from Kane’s nose.

"You’re really careless," Stephanie said as she gently wiped the blood with her handkerchief.

Russell quickly picked Kane up and rushed him to another ward.

Outside, Daniel and Chantelle looked at each other. They couldn’t help it but burst out laughing.

"There’s no next time," Daniel said, his tone softening. "Before you go running off into trouble again, think about me and the kids. If something happened to you... what would we do?"

This time, Chantelle saw real concern in Daniel’s eyes. He still looked shaken, like the fear of losing her hadn’t fully vanished.

People always said that Daniel was colder than the God of Hell. Nothing could ever scare him.

But now she knew that what he scared most was losing her.
