Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback-Chapter 477: Call Her Granny
Daniel was caught up in the fact that his wife had been worried about him. She didn’t notice what he had really intended to do, or maybe she did, and her instincts pushed her to save him anyway.
The more he thought about it, the happier he became. When he noticed she had suddenly stopped, he trembled. He pulled her into his arms protectively and asked nervously, "What’s wrong? Are you hurt?"
She was giving him a real scare. They were still out in the open area, and the enemy was hiding somewhere. He had no way of knowing when they would attack.
When he looked in the same direction, he froze in surprise.
"Are you okay, Daniel?" Victoria leaned out and reached for his hand. Daisy stood beside her, giving him excited looks.
Daniel didn’t pull away from her touch, but his eyes held a complicated expression before he turned back to Chantelle.
Chantelle didn’t even look at Victoria or Daisy. She and Daniel exchanged a simple glance.
"Who are they, Daddy?" Stephanie asked. She could tell her mother was upset.
She hated anyone who made her mother unhappy.
"This is my wife, Chantelle, and this is my daughter, Stephanie. These two are... old friends we saved back in Carcosa," Daniel said awkwardly.
Victoria looked Chantelle up and down with an arrogant, dismissive stare, making Chantelle feel uncomfortable.
She looked at Chantelle like she was nothing more than an ant.
Daisy, unlike her godmother, wasn’t calm at all. She went into a panic the moment she saw Chantelle. She had heard that Chantelle had given birth to three children and thought she would look like a middle-aged woman, no matter how well she took care of herself.
But Chantelle looked like she was in her early twenties. She had the face of a young girl with the mature charm of a grown woman. Her beauty made her stand out in any crowd.
No wonder Daniel had missed her so much during those six years she was gone.
But so what? No matter how beautiful she was, he would get tired of her eventually. How could she compete with someone new?
Daisy pulled herself together and lifted her chin, acting superior as she stared at the woman she saw as a romantic rival.
Chantelle didn’t bother with them. All she noticed was Victoria still holding Daniel’s hand while he enthusiastically introduced his wife and daughter, as if waiting for Chantelle’s approval.
Coldness settled in her chest.
"Why are they in your car?" Stephanie hated the way they looked at her mother and stepped in front of Chantelle to shield her. But she was still just a child, and there was only so much she could do.
She had no choice but to call for her father.
"Oh, you’re Stephanie, aren’t you? You’re so cute!" Victoria tried to hug her.
Stephanie dodged her hand and glared at her.
Victoria pulled back awkwardly. "There’s nothing to be afraid of, child. Granny isn’t a bad person. Look, I brought you a present. Why don’t you try calling me Granny?"
Stephanie glanced at the gold locket with disdain and said, "I don’t know you."
Remembering what Victoria had said, Daniel sighed. "Be a good girl, Stephanie. Call her Granny."
Stephanie frowned up at him. He had never forced her to do anything she didn’t want to do. Back in Carcosa, no matter how fancy the parties were or how important the guests were, Chantelle would never make her talk to anyone if she refused.
Chantelle respected her children’s choices. There was always a reason if Stephanie didn’t want to speak to someone.
But now her father was making her call that hateful old woman "Granny." The thought upset her deeply.
"Steph!" Daniel raised his voice and picked up the gold locket, planning to put it on Stephanie.
His expression looked complicated as he turned to Chantelle, who was giving them a mocking smile.
She acted like she had nothing to do with any of this and was just watching a silly show from the sidelines.
Daniel didn’t know what to do. Ashton quickly helped by clicking Victoria’s fingers back into place. The pain made her stomp her feet. The "errand boy" nodded at Chantelle apologetically.
"We can talk back home." Daniel tried to guide his daughter into the car, but Daisy was in the passenger seat and Victoria was in the back with a pile of random items beside her. Only one person could fit in the seat.
"These are gifts that Daisy handpicked for you. Come take a look." Victoria ignored the pain in her fingers and tried to pull Daniel into the car.
Daniel frowned and didn’t move.
She quickly changed her approach and tried to act humbly. Sadly, her acting was terrible. She glanced at Chantelle and Stephanie. "Oh, I’m sorry. This was supposed to be your ride, right? We’ll get off. It’s fine. Daisy and I can just walk back."
They talked about getting out, but they stayed in their seats and kept rambling.
Stephanie climbed into the car and carelessly brushed the presents off the seats onto the floor. She didn’t care at all. The sound of shattering glass echoed through the air.
"Hey, what are you doing? These are presents for Daniel. Why are you throwing them? Everything’s going to break. You have no manners! Who raised you?" Victoria dropped to the ground to pick up the gifts like a beggar on the street.
Steph tossed the bags.
So why are you gathering them like that? How desperate are you to show everyone what you bought? Worried Daniel won’t notice the gifts got ruined? Chantelle thought to herself.
"Who did you say has no manners?" Chantelle grabbed Victoria’s hand just as she reached for the child. Her grip made the older woman wince in pain.
Chantelle and Stephanie were both stunned. They didn’t even know Daniel had a mother. But if she wasn’t his mother, why was she acting so superior?
"Ack! Daniel, why is she doing this?! She’s going to break my arm!" Victoria screamed dramatically.
Daisy was crying with bloodshot eyes. "Daniel, tell her to let Godmother go. She only wanted to touch the kid’s hair. You told her about her before, and she loves her..."
Daniel sighed and took Chantelle’s hand. She stepped back on her own but didn’t look at him. She just told Stephanie, "Get in the car."
