Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride-Chapter 1008 - 1004: How Did a Work Meeting Turn Into a Blind Date Again?
"Really can’t take Lara with us? Lara gets so bored at home by herself," Sophie Foster pouted at the man adjusting his tie in the mirror once more.
Nicholas Croft had already finished with his tie, and, ruffling Sophie Foster’s hair, he laughed, "Since when did you become so clingy? I’ve got some business to discuss, my dear."
"Alright then," Sophie Foster sighed, returning to bed and picking up her phone to continue playing her game. In truth, she just wanted to test him a bit. Nicholas used to bring her along whenever he had work meetings, but today, despite her persistent pleading, he refused. It must be because he’s meeting that woman.
After getting dressed, Nicholas Croft left the room. Sophie Foster threw aside her phone and began changing clothes. She had secretly overheard earlier that the meeting place was a cafe.
She used her phone to call a DiDi and gave the address. To avoid being spotted, Sophie dressed more plainly, put on light makeup, tied a simple ponytail, wore a pink tracksuit, and even donned a mask.
Arriving at the cafe entrance, she paid the fare and got out of the car. As she entered the cafe, the server had just started to say "Welcome" when Sophie Foster hushed him, and then began to peer around curiously under the server’s puzzled gaze.
Upon spotting Nicholas Croft, Sophie Foster quickly slipped into the nearest booth.
"Miss, do you need some help?" The server was taken aback by her mysterious behavior and leaned in to ask quietly.
Sophie Foster beckoned the server closer with a finger, then removed her mask and whispered, "Could you check, over there, second to last table by the window, has the handsome guy glanced over?"
The server looked at the spot Sophie mentioned, "No, he hasn’t,"
"Oh, thanks," Sophie Foster visibly sighed in relief, noticing the server’s odd gaze at her, and laughed lightly, "Don’t worry, the handsome guy is my husband, I’m here to catch him cheating."
Remembering something suddenly, she quickly took off her backpack, dug out her wallet, and handed a big bill to the server, "Do me a favor, cover for me, I want to sit a bit closer to them."
Whether it was because of Sophie Foster’s cute looks or the sight of the large bill, once the server pocketed the money, he walked further inside, and Sophie Foster ducked and followed closely behind, sitting in the booth adjacent to Nicholas Croft. The high leather back of the booth perfectly hid her.
"One cappuccino," Sophie Foster quietly ordered coffee, and after the server left, she leaned on the seat back, pressing her ear tightly against it.
"... Mr. Du, wasn’t this supposed to be a business meeting? How did it turn into a matchmaking session?" It was Nicholas Croft’s voice, polite yet tinged with helplessness.
"Mr. Chu, I’m just acting on someone’s behalf," a man’s voice replied, slightly apologetic, "Old Mr. Hai entrusted me early this morning, I had no choice. But you and Miss Hai do make a good match; you’re both in the entertainment industry, so you have common ground..."
Hearing this, Sophie Foster sneered disdainfully. No wonder he was wearing a tie and hair gel, it turned out he was sneaking off for a blind date. Just wait till she gives him a surprise!
With that thought, the server had already brought her coffee, and at this moment, the click-clack of high heels indicated another server approaching. Sophie hurriedly grabbed the menu from the table and held it in front of her, revealing only her eyes. When she saw that the woman was indeed Hannah Hargrave, she resisted the urge to jump up and tear her apart; her grip on the menu tightened.
"Sorry for being late, Mr. Du," Hannah Hargrave’s voice sounded from behind. Seeing Nicholas Croft, she feigned surprise and said, "Nicholas... is that you?"
