Serena Sullivan was sitting with her back facing the garden entrance. Upon hearing that Mr. Preston had returned, she didn’t immediately turn her wheelchair, and when she heard the name "Mr. Grant," she frowned.
Before setting out, Ethan Grant had called her, wanting to ask her out.
She rejected him outright, saying she was going to The Preston Family.
On the phone, Ethan Grant sounded dejected and disappointed as he agreed. Serena thought he had given up on the idea of asking her out, but she didn’t expect him to follow her to The Preston Family.

"Your uncle was just saying he wanted to invite you for a meal, why don’t we head over now?"
Mrs. Sterling brought up Mr. Sterling again, hoping to "invite" Ethan Grant away by suggesting a meal.
She thought Ethan Grant would somewhat give The Sterling Family some face and go along with her offer.
If Ethan Grant followed her and Felicity away, there would be no chance for him to say much to Serena, further confirming what she had previously insinuated about Ethan Grant and Felicity Sterling.
"Mrs. Sterling!"
Ethan replied with a smile.
Mrs. Sterling’s smile grew brighter, believing Ethan Grant knew how to behave appropriately.
With the Prestons and Sterlings both backing her, wouldn’t Ethan Grant give her some respect if he wanted to establish himself in the Imperial Capital?
"Please step aside!"
Unfortunately, Ethan Grant was determined to see Serena and would not leave with Mrs. Sterling.

Before the person beside them could answer, Mrs. Sterling turned to face them, "Matters between the children, I don’t really understand. Why don’t we go over to the main hall for dining?"
