Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 724: What Happened to Sharing Hardships Together?
Audrey Sutton walked towards the coffee table holding a thermal container, saying, "It’s my mom who’s worried about you, always thinking of you when there’s something tasty."
Continuing, Audrey Sutton called out to Lucian Quinn, "Mor, have you eaten? Why not come over and eat with us, he won’t be able to finish all by himself."
Lucian Quinn smiled and politely declined, "No need, I have plans with Flora, she’s already booked the restaurant."
Audrey Sutton heard this, and smiled like a fond aunt, "Then you should hurry."
Lucian Quinn nodded and said to Shane Warner, "I’ll sort out the new proposal this afternoon and give it to you."
Shane Warner responded with a soft "Mm," and with Anna in his arms, walked over to Audrey Sutton. With Lucian Quinn’s departure, the office was left with just the three of them.
He sat down on the sofa opposite Audrey Sutton, his tone becoming less formal than before, "You don’t worry about me? You don’t miss me?"
Audrey Sutton rolled her eyes at him, took out the utensils from the bag and placed them in front of him, changing the subject, "Hurry and eat while it’s hot!"
Shane Warner reached out to take the bowl and chopsticks, when Anna reached over to grab the chopsticks in his hand. Shane Warner, of course, did not give her them, gently moved her little hand aside.
Seeing Anna bothering her dad while he was eating, Audrey Sutton stood up and picked Anna up, mimicking the child’s innocent tone, saying, "Let’s go see if Daddy bought you any new toys."
Ever since having their son, Shane Warner’s office corner had a designated "playground" for Anna, with a soft mat spread out and piled high with miscellaneous small toys.
Anna was at that stage where he was curious about everything, and as long as he was full and not sleepy, he could play amidst those toys for quite a while.
Shane Warner turned his head to look at Audrey Sutton, asking, "You’re not going to eat with me?"
Audrey Sutton sat on the carpet, playing with small toys with their son, saying, "I ate at home."
Shane Warner said displeased, "You knew you were bringing lunch for me, why didn’t you come over to eat together?"
Audrey Sutton pursed her lips and said, "To be honest, I drank so much chicken soup during my recovery period that it made me sick. There’s a whole table of dishes at home, definitely better than eating here with you." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Shane Warner: "What about the promise to share joys and sorrows together?"
Audrey Sutton giggled, "Didn’t I leave the best for you? Mom said you’ve been busy lately, so she specially made medicinal chicken soup to nourish your body."
Shane Warner took a sip of the hot soup in his bowl and said mildly, "Guess it’s been too long since you’ve been disciplined, making you think I’m physically weak."
Audrey Sutton glared at him, muttering, "Watch what you say in front of the child, maybe Anna can understand even if he can’t express it."
Shane Warner confidently asked, "What did I say? It’s your own thoughts causing the problem; you should be careful not to corrupt my son."
"Eh!" Anna interjected, and Audrey Sutton laughed, saying, "See, your son doesn’t agree with what you’re saying."
Shane Warner snorted lightly, "So young and already contradicting me, I wonder from whom he’s learning it."
Audrey Sutton proudly said to Anna, "Our Anna is sensible, isn’t that right?"
Anna didn’t understand what they were discussing, but seeing Audrey Sutton teasing him, he grabbed a toy car and laughed foolishly.
Shane Warner ate a couple of bites of food and said, "His Uncle Xavier bought him a remote-controlled car and plane a few days ago, they’re in the cabinet nearby."
Audrey Sutton turned to look and said, "Let him play with them when he’s a bit older, now if he plays, it’s just me playing for him to watch, it’s better for him to obediently sit here and play with these."
After saying that, Audrey Sutton teased Faye Xavier, "Who knew Brother Xavier had such thoughts, buying toys for the child, I think if he settled down, married a girl sincerely, he could be a good father."
Shane Warner, mercilessly ridiculing his brother, said, "Maybe next lifetime."
Audrey Sutton: "Come to think of it, wasn’t Brother Xavier working under you some time ago? Are you sure it wasn’t you who led him astray?"
Shane Warner: "I didn’t teach him any of that, rather he keeps teaching me."
As soon as he said this, Shane Warner seemed to realize he might’ve said something he shouldn’t have.
Meanwhile, Audrey Sutton immediately cornered him with his words, questioning him, "What has he been teaching you? Flirting with girls?"
Shane Warner’s mind reacted quickly too, breezily saying, "Whether he teaches or not is one thing, me learning it is another."
Audrey Sutton switched from her previous suspicion, her tone slightly disdainful, "True, judging by your usual straight guy comments like you’d almost prefer to stay single forever, it’s clear you’re not Brother Xavier’s pupil. Though Brother Xavier is flirtatious, he does have the knack to make girls happy."
Shane Warner turned to ask her, "You think that’s good?"
Audrey Sutton: "Being flirtatious is certainly undesirable, but making girls happy is something you could learn."
Shane Warner coldly glanced at Audrey Sutton, "Are you saying you’re not happy with me?"
Audrey Sutton: "See, you just pick at words, obviously I’m saying that you shouldn’t always be so venomous when speaking, always scolding me. Occasionally say something nice; even if I know it’s not true, it still feels good to hear."
Shane Warner: "Why don’t you start saying a few lines, and I’ll learn."
Seeing through Shane Warner’s ploy, Audrey Sutton turned away, muttering, "Don’t try to set me up."
Shane Warner laughed, "See? You won’t teach me, how can I learn?"
Audrey Sutton lowered her head and said to Anna, "Let’s ignore that big fool."
With Audrey Sutton and the child nearby, Shane Warner felt his exhaustion and fatigue instantly revitalized.
He continued eating his meal, while Anna played with his toys, and Audrey Sutton sat next to the child, looking down at her phone.
When he finished his meal and cleaned up the table, he realized that Anna, who had been babbling all along, had fallen silent. Turning around, he saw Anna lying down with his butt sticking up, asleep next to Audrey Sutton, still holding a red toy car.
"Asleep?"
Audrey Sutton hurriedly gestured to make him quiet: "Shh—he just closed his eyes, was playing and then crawled onto the floor."
Shane Warner walked over lightly, looked at Anna, and lowered his voice, saying, "What were you two up to last night? So tired that he’d sleep like this."
Audrey Sutton said, "Ever since waking up this morning, he’s been playing in the living room with Summer, no wonder he’s tired."
Shane Warner bent down to pick up Anna, and Audrey Sutton held onto his hand, saying, "Wait, let him fall fully asleep first."
"The floor is cold, don’t get sick, looking like this he won’t fuss," Shane Warner said, picking up the little bundle from the floor, Anna just opened his eyes to glance at Shane Warner, the toy car in his hand falling onto the carpet, and then snuggled into Shane Warner’s arms.
Shane Warner gently rocked him twice and Anna closed his eyes again, peacefully going back to sleep.
