Chapter 80- Signs Of War (Part 2)

Many fell, but the number only kept on increasing rapidly, filling the dark sky above the base. Even in the dimness, one could see a large black cloud forming rapidly around the area. The cluster buzzed and moved chaotically, sending chills down anyone who looked at it. Knowing that the cloud was all mind-eating insects made it even more terrifying.

Then, they all saw another bolt of lightning slam into the base of the cloud, sending large shockwaves into every part of it and killing many. Then, another bolt, and another one after that, each one killed many, and each one devastated the army of insects.

"Woah..."

"He’s... blasting all of them from so far away..."

"H-How is that even human?"

The soldiers stopped to watch the festival of light in sheer awe. They couldn’t put into words how mesmerizing it was. The red lightning was destroying everything in its way without mercy, burning and destroying all the Namok Insects.

"Jack..." Luna watched the scenes while doing the work she was tasked with. She wasn’t surprised that Jack’s abilities were that strong, and yet she felt deep pride seeing her beloved gain so much power. "He’s really carrying all of us on his shoulders."

He’s her bright sun, and now he’s everyone’s bright sun, the light that leads them toward the end of the tunnel. How can she not be deeply proud of him for everything he did? She simply cannot describe how deep her pride is.

Meanwhile, amidst the looks of sheer amazement, only Jack was aware of how dire the situation truly is.

"Nothing... Nothing... I’m not cutting their numbers down at all." He cursed as he watched the cluster only grow with time rather than decrease or scatter. It was as if they refused to leave each other and stayed as close to one another as possible. Jack felt even more annoyed when he realized that they were slowly descending and approaching the base, surrounding it from every angle.

"We can’t let them do that. I need to get them down to the ground." He clenched his teeth and looked toward Luna. She was busy doing what he asked. "I can’t let them cluster more than this."

Taking that into consideration, the boy finally jumped down the wall and left the base in a hurry. Running through the dark street, Jack reached the highest building in the vicinity and climbed it to the very top.

There, he found himself in a higher position than the cloud, which was descending in altitude gradually.

"If I can make them go down to our level, we can deal with them better." He muttered as he charged his hand with lightning again before he blasted again. The hit slammed into the top part of the cloud, pushing it down several feet.

Many died and fell, pulling more and more of the living Namoks with them. Jack then blasted the cloud again, and again, and again... He used all the Aether in his reservoir to push the cloud down further and further.

Notifications rolled so fast in his retina that he couldn’t even read them in time. He was killing an ungodly amount of these things, possibly more than a thousand, very quickly.

After several brutal attacks, the cloud had finally reached a level where it could be attacked with short-range weapons, barely several feet above the ground. They buzzed and moved around in a panicked state, not knowing what was hitting them. However, even then, their numbers were only growing exponentially.

"I think this is enough." Muttering, Jack quickly ran down to the ground as he pulled his communication device.

"Luna! Are you done?!"

A second later, the girl replied. "Almost! Where are you now?!"

"I have pressured the cloud to go down. Make Hermann gather all the people who can fight. We need everyone!"

"Roger that!"

After that, Jack emerged into the street, where he found the entire place completely filled with insects. The scene was terrifying, knowing that any mistake could lead to his demise was even more eerie. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

However, he still brandished his sword. "Well, no better time to try this new skill I got."

The Myth’s Resolve.

As he thought of the ability, he felt something different happening to his sword. Slowly, he lifted it up to his face as he watched the blade start glowing with a white light. The light seemed to coat the blade very well, and he felt a pulsating energy coursing through it.

"..." The boy was completely captivated for a second before he quickly looked up. A cluster of insects noticed his presence and tried to attack him. However, at that moment, the boy took a fighting stance.

*Swish*

Dashing forward, he swung the sword with all his power. All the momentum and the energy exploded out, sending a large sword slash through the air that sliced through everything in its way. It traveled several dozen feet, killing many insects. Severed bodies fell to the ground like rain as blood coated every corner of the street.

The entire cluster of Namoks that tried to attack him was wiped out in a flash, leaving no one behind.

"..." The boy’s eyes widened as he stared at the effect of the attack and then at his sword. "This is no joke..."

A sword slash that can travel that far... It was devastating, to say the least. Without wasting more time, Jack used the ability again as he rushed toward the cloud. Swinging his sword again, he sliced through countless more insects.

The devastation of each attack was equal, if not stronger than, the Red Lightning. He slashed again, and again, not wasting a single second. At that point, the insects started noticing his presence. Like bullets, they started descending on him from every direction.

’Shit.’ The boy quickly retreated back several dozen meters as the monsters chased him. Meanwhile, he kept blasting them with lightning, killing as many as he could. His goal was to single-handedly deplete their numbers to the point where the people inside could somehow manage to fight on equal footing with these things.

’I need to buy time. As much time as I can.’

Even as he ran and fought, the boy found himself being attacked from the front too, as more and more monsters reached the area from the laboratory. Jack’s sword moved again, slashing anything that came in his way.

His brain quickly split into a multi-tasking killing machine. He fought ahead and behind him, dodging, countering, and even initiating attacks himself. His body moved at extreme degrees, using enough energy to deplete several people in mere moments. But, with his monstrous stamina and constant Aether in his veins, he was able to last extremely long doing these taxing actions.

Eventually, the number started growing out of control. His arm was moving like a flash, slicing and cutting without mercy, but the more he killed, the more came, and the more he was getting exhausted.

*BANG*

His lightning and Myth’s resolve were dominating the entire area, but he knew that wouldn’t last for long.

’These things aren’t giving me enough experience points to level up reliably and keep this pace.’ His expression darkened under the coat of blood. Eventually, Jack picked up his communication device.

"Luna! How is the situation there?"

"We are being attacked from every angle. We have gathered a few hundred people who could fight. We are positioning them on the walls. Are you good?"

"Yeah, I’m fine. I’m being chased by many of these things. I will try to drag them far away and pull the pressure from the base."

"Be careful, Jack!"

"I know."

Putting the device away, Jack quickly focused on the fight again. "They’re only growing more aggressive."

*Swish*

At some point, Jack found himself in an open field in the heart of the city. The swarm didn’t stop chasing him for a second. He looked behind, then ahead and started running again. However, at that moment, he halted.

His senses shuddered as they picked up something in the distance. His eyes looked left and right, then up, and he finally located it. Jack’s heart... stopped. His erratic breathing stopped with it as his eyes widened.

In the far distance, Jack saw extremely large silhouettes flying in the air. The sound of their wings reverberated through the entire city. They were extremely huge... Hundreds of times the size of the normal insects.

Their silhouettes alone were enough to strike fear into anyone’s heart. There wasn’t one, or two, or even ten or a hundred of them... Thousands of these large creatures were moving toward the base in an organized cluster.

"You have got to be... kidding me..." The boy clenched his teeth. The despair flashed before his eyes. "You have got to be fucking kidding me."

His biggest fear manifested. This was no mere attack; this was a full-on invasion. One of a scale that far exceeded Jack’s worst nightmares.
