Chapter 61: 061 Don’t come over
Far off, Chen Xu and his companion saw a bald stone mountain, the door leading to the control center was embedded in the mountainside.
It seemed that the control center was built inside the belly of the mountain.
Boom!
Suddenly, a huge green shadow leaped from a tall tower nearby, landing on the roof of a greenhouse with a loud crash, collapsing the entire roof.
Chen Xu focused his eyes and couldn’t help but gasped, “King Kong?”
It was a gigantic green-skinned gorilla, nearly five meters tall, towering over the greenhouse, its size astoundingly large. It bared its sharp teeth, looking extremely ferocious.
...
The green-skinned gorillas he had encountered before were like Chihuahuas compared to this beast, which resembled a Tibetan Mastiff.
He highly doubted whether the gun in his hand could penetrate its muscles.
Boom!
Then, another one jumped down, landing on another greenhouse.
This one was slightly shorter, much slimmer, and more agile.
“Roar…”
The two four-and-a-half-meter-tall giant gorillas roared as they sprinted. Their forearms pressed against the ground, hopping with a somewhat comical look, yet their speed was incredibly fast. Each hop covered a few meters.
“They’re coming for us.”
Chen Xu saw the two building-sized beasts charging towards them, felt an immense pressure, and his breathing became unstable. Yet, his hands didn’t slow down, he braced the gun against his shoulder and aimed at the leading giant gorilla.
He didn’t even have time to inform Yang Jinxia before he pulled the trigger.
Bang bang bang…
Bullets poured out, striking the smaller gorilla in the knee of its left leg, bursting into a spray of blood.
“Ow!” It screamed miserably, lost balance, and smashed a large hole in a greenhouse nearby, tumbling inside.
By then, the larger gorilla was already less than twenty meters away from them.
Having temporarily dealt with one threat, Chen Xu quickly pivoted the gun, still aiming. He saw it hit the ground and then leap high.
Watching a two-story-high gorilla smash towards him, he felt a tremendous shock, his heart clenched, and he gasped, instinctively raising his gun.
Unfortunately, its forearm protected its head.
In a moment of life and death, his instincts responded faster, franticly pulling the trigger.
Bang bang bang bang…
Blood burst continuously from the chest of the giant gorilla.
Click click…
Chen Xu’s gun was out of bullets, only making empty sounds, but he didn’t realize it and kept pulling the trigger nonstop.
Bang!
The gorilla that leaped into the air suddenly plummeted down, smashing right in front of Chen Xu, shaking the ground.
Its limbs twitched powerlessly, its huge head hanging near his feet, those green eyes staring right at him.
No matter how strong, it was still flesh and blood. A single bullet couldn’t penetrate, but a barrage tore apart its muscle tissues, pulverizing its heart.
Chen Xu watched its pupils shrink, eyelids droop, and knew it was finally dead. His tense nerves suddenly relaxed, feeling his limbs go weak.
He had never experienced such a scene from childhood to adulthood. Just a few hours into this dream, and he had already faced it twice. It was truly terrifying.
Boom.
Suddenly, the wall of a nearby greenhouse collapsed, filling the air with dust. A green-skinned gorilla, limping, charged out, emitting a piercing shriek and madly rushing towards them.
Chen Xu then remembered there was one more creature yet to be dealt with. Just as he raised his gun, his face changed color.
He had emptied the bullets in his gun earlier.
The moment’s delay allowed the limping gorilla to close the distance to just a few meters. The overwhelming pressure made his heart nearly leap from his chest, and his adrenaline surged.
By then, it was too late to reload.
There wasn’t even time to draw the pistol at his waist.
Could it be that he would die on his very first day inside?
He looked at the ferocious, hideous face of the green-skinned gorilla, and his suppressed emotions exploded.
It was just a green-skinned monster, wasn’t it?
He used all his strength to hurl his empty gun.
Whoosh—
The flying gun struck the gorilla’s face, shattering upon impact.
Dazed, the gorilla’s head snapped back and it wailed miserably, retreating while waving its arms.
Driven wild, Chen Xu forgot he still had another gun and charged at the beast, jumped onto its shoulder, and swung his mechanical arm, smashing down on its head.
There was a splat as his entire arm sank into its head.
The gorilla’s scream abruptly stopped, and it fell stiffly. Its massive body hit the ground, raising a cloud of dust.
Under the several-ton force of the mechanical arm, the muscles and skull of its face were as fragile as paper, completely crush through. The shattered pieces of bone instantly turned its brain into pulp.
“Ugh…”
Chen Xu felt nauseated and quickly withdrew his hand. Dark green blood sprayed all over him, the strong stench of blood nearly choking him.
“Chen Xu, are you alright?”
At that moment, Yang Jinxia ran over, saw him standing unsteadily atop the gorilla’s body, and asked anxiously.
Chen Xu, struggling, jumped down from the body and stretched out a hand, signaling her to keep her distance.
She stepped closer, her face visibly changing. Holding her breath, she asked, “Are you hurt?”
“Stinks.”
Chen Xu’s face turned bright red as he managed to utter one word before running towards the greenhouse that was close to collapsing. He saw water flowing, likely from a broken water pipe.
He needed to wash it off, or he might well pass out.
Knowing he wasn’t injured, Yang Jinxia sighed in relief but followed him anyway.
Entering the greenhouse, they quickly found the leak at a low corner wall, which was hard to access directly for washing.
Chen Xu had to scoop water with his hands to wash his face.
Yang Jinxia looked around, found a few intact containers, and came over to help scoop the water.
Each container was the size of a washbasin. Once Chen had filled one, he poured it over his head, feeling revived as he breathed in deeply, though the air still carried a faint scent of blood.
He turned to look at Yang Jinxia who was holding a container under the leak, her neck muscles near the jaw tensed as she seemingly held her breath, appearing like she might vomit but enduring.
“It’s full.” She moved the filled container away and grabbed another empty one to continue.
“Thank you.”
Chen Xu looked at her intently, picked up the basin, and poured water over his head again.
