Chapter 637

Anton went to the west gate at what he thought was early enough, but the moment he arrived there, he saw a massive number of people. He could also differentiate between the formal soldiers and the people comprising ordinary citizens and adventurers, foreign or otherwise, who were recruited to fight the undead army. The soldiers looked disciplined, standing at attention, while the adventurers and what looked like ordinary folks were standing in place haphazardly, talking to each other.

Since Anton was not a formal soldier, he knew that he belonged to the second group. He saw a registration booth in front of those ordinary people, so he went there to register and waited with the others.

After a while, several soldier mages flew towards the non-soldiers and used magic however they could to arrange everyone in groups of 100 people, and soon everyone was divided. Based on a cursory look, there were 10,000 ordinary people who joined the army.

The official army that Anton could see in the field numbered around 50,000. Anton was called by a wizard to join what looked like a powerful group of adventurers. Everyone was wearing their Adventurer Guild badges, so Anton retrieved his and wore it openly as well. He was not surprised that almost everyone had the rank of Diamond, just like his rank, and he could even see ranks above his. He remembered what Captain Rogers had said when he was invited to join the army. That he would be part of a powerful group focused on offense.

Anton wondered what percentage of the 100 men were spell casters and what were warriors, but he knew that it did not matter since once you were selected to be part of the “Offense” group, more than likely you had already proven yourselves to the Ormundan higher-ups.

Based on a cursory count, Anton saw that there were ten groups specializing in offensive attacks, and each group consisted of 100 men.

The group that he was assigned to was led by a powerful Supreme Wizard, called Nando. He was not a local but from another continent, like Anton. Nando looked like those old school Indian wizards from Earth, so more than likely, he came from a continent similar to the southeast of Earth.

After a long morning of organizing the army of misfits, they finally started marching to that village that was going to be attacked by the undead horde before New Drennor. During the travel, everyone was introducing themselves to their group members. It was so chaotic and informal, but Anton could understand the rush. They needed to reach the undead horde as fast as they could so they could fight the undead army.

Anton was aware that the true attacking force consisted of the formal armies from the three kingdoms of Ormunda, New Drennor, and Mendoza, and the group that he was a part of was just some sort of supplementary, much like the “special forces” group that he was assigned when they assisted Mendoza.

According to those he chatted with, the goal was to retake the kingdom of Mendoza, and that they would be assisted by six Semi-Divine wizards and three Divine Wizards from the three kingdoms.

After a few hours on the road, the members of Anton’s group started using their spells, magic items, and magic summons to assist them in their travel, so Anton copied them and summoned his Dire Bear and started riding it. Normally, a bear the size of his Dire Bear summon would not be able to travel for a long time, but since his summon was not an actual animal but some sort of mana construct, it did not have that problem. It could travel nonstop and could even sprint nonstop once given a command.

The dire bear was huge enough that Anton placed a comfortable pillow seat on top of it. Soon, some members of his group went near him to talk about the bear. All of them riding their own magic things. Captain Nando was on top of a flying carpet. One was riding a huge sabretooth tiger, a woman was on top of a pure white unicorn, and another one was just flying, and for some reason, the one that was flying looked a little embarrassed.

When Captain Nando saw his questioning look and asked Anton about it, he told Nando his observation regarding the embarrassed look of the one who was flying.

Captain Nando laughed and shared that, for an elite magic caster, a magic item or summoned magical animal that you can ride on was a sign of wealth. Anton thought that maybe it was like just cars for wizards.

Captain Nando also told Anton that he was informed about him.

“What did they tell you about me?” Anton asked.

“That you are a powerful eighteen-year-old Supreme Wizard capable of soloing the 65th floor of a high-level dungeon. We have the same rank, but I can’t solo that floor. I was also told that because of your age, you don’t want to lead and wanted to be treated as a weapon to be pointed at the enemy.”

“That’s right, Captain. I have very powerful offensive spells, and my escape spells are also top-notch notch so you can use me however you want.”

“I was also informed that your healing spells are also the best,” Nando said.

Anton was surprised that Ormunda was also aware of his healing capabilities, but remembered that he used his healing spells when they attacked the undead army that landed on the southwest beaches, and also when the Western Gate was breached.

“Captain, I preferred to be an attacker instead of being a healer.”

“You don’t need to worry about that. We need attackers more since we have plenty of healers. Heck, my healing spells are also very good,” Captain Nando replied.

“When are we going to reach that village that was going to be attacked by the undead horde?” Anton asked.

“Normally, we should be able to reach in six days, but since we’re not going to be resting, we’ll reach it in three days.”

Anton understood. All of them could forgo sleep for a while, so they would utilize that ability to reach the village, where they could stop the undead horde. No one wanted the undead army to reach New Drennor.

During the three days of travel, Anton became acquainted with the members of his group, at least the ones nearby, but the time was too short to truly know them. After three days of non-stop travel, they finally reached the vicinity of the village that was going to be attacked, and were happy that it was announced that they could rest for a few hours. It was enough for Anton to catch up on his sleep because his item, Pearl of the Ocean, would help him a lot with that.

He set up his one-man tent on top of his Dire Bear and started sleeping beside his Pearl of the Ocean. After three hours, he was woken up by the alarm that he had set. Anton felt refreshed. After eating a quick meal, he joined his group.

The plan to attack the incoming undead horde had started. They were waiting for Captain Nando, who joined the administrator, so they would know what their next step was. After about thirty minutes, Nando informed them that their group would be one of the first ones who attack the left side of the undead horde.

Anton understood that the plan was haphazard and full of chaos, but he preferred it that way. He just wanted to cast his spells towards the undead and try to kill as many as he could.
