Chapter 219: Chapter 219 Fifteen words

After dinner, Ruby quietly made her way toward Julian’s room, curious about what the two were up to. Karl trailed behind her lazily, half-hugging the hallway wall like it owed him support.

As Ruby gently pushed the door open, she expected to see them maybe napping—or sneaking snacks. But instead, her brows lifted in surprise.

Milo and Julian were both sitting cross-legged on the floor, papers spread around them. They were writing—neatly and carefully. Words she had taught them. Letters formed slowly, but clearly.

"Wife!" Milo beamed up at her, his eyes sparkling. He held up a few pages toward her with childlike excitement. "Look! I wrote all the words you taught me!"

Ruby’s heart warmed at the sight, but her gaze briefly flicked to Julian—who had stiffened a little. His eyes widened for a moment, and he looked like he’d been caught doing something embarrassing.

She smiled anyway and walked over, sitting down beside Milo on the soft rug. "Let me see," she said gently, her voice full of pride as she took the pages from his hand.

The letters were slightly crooked, but beautifully done for someone just learning.

"You’re doing so well, Milo... This is better than I expected," she said, ruffling his hair softly.

Julian cleared his throat and looked down, pretending to rearrange the papers on his lap. His cheeks had the faintest pink hue.

Ruby noticed, but didn’t say anything.

"And Karl," Ruby said, turning her head slightly with a teasing smirk, "you haven’t written anything during these days, have you? How about a little revision with Julian and Milo?"

Karl froze like a statue.

His wide baby-blue eyes blinked slowly as if the question had stunned his soul. He opened his mouth, then closed it again. Then opened it... and nothing came out.

Alphabets? Words?

He couldn’t even remember how to write his own name properly without tilting his head five times. He had been so busy modeling, eating snacks, and dramatically flopping around the house like a delicate flower that he had totally forgotten about the studies part of life.

I can’t lose my reputation for this!

His pride screamed in protest.

He cleared his throat, stood up a bit straighter, and crossed his arms. "Wife... I was actually giving them space to grow on their own. You know, like a good elder brother does. I didn’t want to distract them with my... genius handwriting."

Julian snorted quietly.

Milo blinked innocently. "But Brother Karl... didn’t you say last time the letter B looked like a butterfly smushed on the wall?"

Karl glared at Milo. "That’s called creative interpretation!"

Ruby chuckled, eyes twinkling. "No more excuses. Tomorrow, you’re joining their lessons."

Karl gasped as if wounded.

But Ruby only raised an eyebrow, and Karl knew...there was no escape. Tomorrow, he’d have to face the terrifying world of alphabets once again.

"I’m going to sleep," Karl grumbled, shooting a playful glare at Ruby as he crossed his arms like a stubborn child.

Ruby smirked and didn’t say anything, just reached out her hand to help Milo up from the floor. Milo took her hand happily, stretching his arms like a sleepy kitten.

Julian stood up by himself, rubbing his eyes gently, a small yawn slipping from his lips. "I’ll go too," he mumbled, his voice soft from drowsiness.

"Good night," Ruby said, smiling at Karl and Julian as she walked Milo toward his room.

"Goodnight, Wife," Julian replied quietly, his voice warm even in its sleepiness.

Ruby walked Milo to his door and bent slightly as she ruffled his hair. "Goodnight, Milo."

"Goodnight, Wife," he said with a little grin, before disappearing into his room.

Ruby stood quietly in the hallway.

She glanced once more down the hallway. All the doors were closed. Everyone was asleep.

With a small, satisfied breath, she reached up and turned off the lights. Darkness settled in, calm and familiar.

Then she quietly opened her bedroom door, stepped inside, and closed it behind her.

The bed looked soft and welcoming after the long day. She pulled the covers over herself, and laid down, sinking into the mattress like a sigh melting into the night.

Her eyes fluttered closed.

No more thoughts. No more planning.

Just sleep.

Next morning, early in morning, Adrian already left for his job quietly without waking anyone.

And Ruby... ruthlessly gave Karl homework to write just fifteen words.

Only fifteen.

But looking at Karl you would think she asked him to write whole book.

He was lying on sofa with his head buried in pillow, his legs hanging down dramatically like he was on verge of fainting.

"Wife... why are you so cruel to me..." he muttered, peeking at her from behind the pillow with teary eyes.

Ruby was sitting on chair, sipping her tea calmly, not even sparing him a glance.

"It’s only fifteen words Karl. Don’t be dramatic."

Karl sat up and banged his head gently on table. "Only fifteen, you say! Do you even know what fifteen words feel like for someone like me!! My hand will fall off!"

"That’s good," Ruby said flipping the notebook in front of him. "Then you can rest after writing them."

Karl gasped, holding his chest, "You’re heartless, wife... do you enjoy seeing me suffer?"

Ruby looked at him with a raised brow, "Yes."

Karl grabbed the pencil and pointed it at her, "If I write these fifteen words, I want reward."

"You’ll get food," Ruby said dryly.

Karl sighed loudly, picked up the pencil like it was sword of doom, and started writing with the expression of a man writing his final goodbye.

"Why am I even alive..." he muttered with every letter.

Ruby rolled her eyes, not even hiding her face this time.

Milo, who was standing nearby, started giggling while covering his mouth with both hands.

"He is so funny," Milo said softly, trying not to laugh too loud.

Julian who just came from kitchen wiping his wet hands on towel, looked at Karl and sighed with helpless smile.

"He always turns everything into drama," Julian said softly, standing near table.

"Drama??" Karl sat up, looking at Julian with betrayed face, "I am writing my last words here and you’re calling it drama!!"

"You’re writing fifteen words," Ruby reminded.

Karl glared at her, "Fifteen is not just fifteen! To someone like me, it’s like climbing a snowy mountain barefoot."

Ruby ignored him and stood up to take her tea cup to kitchen.

"I am going to write with my tears now..." Karl muttered and slammed his forehead on notebook.

Milo giggled again and Julian just chuckled, shaking his head.

Morning started like usual.

Loud, chaotic and full of Karl’s nonsense.
