Chapter 225: Chapter 225 Closeness

"Each finger has a number. Start from the thumb. Like this—one, two, three, four, five." She touched each of her fingers one by one and showed him gently.

"Now try with me."

Karl followed, touching his fingers slowly. "One... two... three... four... five..."

"Good!" Ruby smiled brightly. "See? You’re not bad at all. You just needed a little help."

Karl’s eyes lit up. "That’s... easy..."

"Yes!" Ruby clapped softly. "And now your fingers are your number team. If you forget, they’ll help you."

Karl looked at his hands with new respect. "Sorry, fingers... I didn’t know you were smart."

Milo giggled. "They were just waiting for you to notice!"

Even Julian let out a small laugh, and Adrian though quiet blinked slowly, as if approving the moment in his own silent way.

"Alright! That’s for toady I just want to see everyone level and from now I will teach you all anything after dinner and all day you guys have to revision, okay?" Ruby asked and everyone nodded in yes.

Julian stood up quietly and went to his room. Milo followed behind, skipping a little, while Adrian walked silently without a word. One by one, they left the room.

Only Karl and Ruby stayed behind.

The room felt quiet now. Soft. The air had changed. Ruby reached out her hand and helped Karl stand up straight. His hand felt warm in hers. For a moment, they just stood there, looking at each other.

Their eyes met, and both their hearts began to beat faster.

Karl blinked slowly, his lips parting just a little. "Thank you, wife..." he whispered, his voice low and honest.

Then, without thinking too much, he slowly leaned forward, his feet barely moving. And before he could lose the courage, he softly pressed his lips against hers...light, quick, unsure and then tried to turn and run away.

But Ruby didn’t let him.

She caught his wrist gently and pulled him back. Her eyes didn’t leave his for even a second. She moved closer, holding the back of his neck with one hand, steady and firm.

And then, she kissed him.

Slowly. Deeply.

Her lips pressed against his again. She moved gently, lips brushing his as she slowly licked the corner of his mouth, making him freeze in surprise.

Karl stood still, eyes wide, heart pounding like crazy.

For the first time, he didn’t know whether he wanted to run or stay forever.

She parted his lips gently with hers, and then... she licked his lower lip slowly, sweetly, making Karl’s heart skip like a drum gone wild.

The world felt like it stopped.

Karl didn’t know how to breathe. He didn’t even blink. His hands trembled at his sides, unsure where to hold her, scared if he moved, it would break the moment.

She pulled away and looked at his face.

He bit his lower lip, still feeling the soft taste of her on his mouth. It lingered there like something warm and sweet. His cheeks turned pink, and he looked away quickly.

"I-I’m going to sleep..." he muttered, voice low and breathless, as he turned around, trying to escape again, his heart pounding so loud he thought Ruby might hear it.

But Ruby wasn’t done.

She reached out and caught his wrist again, this time faster and before he could even think, she pulled him back into her arms.

She hugged him tightly, her chin resting on his shoulder, and leaned closer to his ear. Her voice was soft, like a secret made only for him.

"I can’t get enough of you..." she whispered, slow and teasing.

Karl froze.

His ears turned red instantly...bright, glowing red like someone had lit a tiny fire under his skin. He stood stiffly in her arms, completely caught.

Ruby noticed his red ear and smirked. Without warning, she leaned in and gently bit his earlobe, just a tiny playful bite.

Karl jumped like he got struck by lightning. "R-Ruby!!"

Ruby blinked.

The moment his voice called her name—"Ruby!!"—something strange happened inside her. The way he said it...Full of fluster, warmth, and something more. It made her chest feel warm. Her breath paused.

She stood there, a little dazed.

Her name... from his mouth...

She didn’t even realize she had stopped moving.

And that’s when Karl took the chance.

He wiggled out of her arms like a slippery fish, turned around quickly, and ran.

"Good night!!" he shouted without looking back, his voice high and panicked, feet almost tripping over the wooden floor as he disappeared into the hallway.

Ruby blinked again, finally coming back to her senses.

"...He ran away?" she whispered to herself.

She stood there in the middle of the room, lips still slightly parted, her hand still warm from holding him. Slowly, a small smile appeared onto her face... and her fingers brushed her lips.

"That fool..." she murmured, but her heart was beating fast too...just like his.

🪄🪄

"She’s so clingy..." Karl muttered to himself as he walked into the room, his face still red and his heart beating like crazy.

But the moment he stepped inside, he paused. Julian was still awake.

"Julian? You’re still up?" Karl asked, trying to sound normal.

Julian was sitting on the bed, half under the blanket. He looked at Karl quietly for a second, and then his expression changed into pure concern.

"What happened to your lips, Brother Karl?" he asked softly, his eyes worried. "It looks just like that day when the mosquito bit you really bad..."

Karl’s eyes widened in shock. "No no no—"

He touched his lips quickly. Oh no... were they that swollen?!

"I-I don’t know!" he said quickly, eyes wide and voice trembling. "I was just running and... and I tripped on the floor! And then I bit my lips really hard!!" he cried out, almost sounding like he was about to cry again.

Julian blinked. "Really?"

Karl nodded with full fake sadness. "Y-Yes... It hurts so bad..."

Julian leaned forward, completely believing him. "Should I bring ice?"

"No!" Karl said too fast. "I mean... I already feel better. Yeah. Much better. Hehe..."

Julian tilted his head, still unsure. But he didn’t ask again.

Karl quickly dove into his blanket, hiding his face and whispering to himself, "Please lips, don’t betray me..."
