Chapter 226: Chapter 226 Sold

"She’s becoming rich day by day, Mom... and Karl’s getting pampered by her," said Lucien, the ghost with long, curly black hair that fell over his fair forehead. His sharp blue eyes were filled with jealousy as he looked at his mother. "They have a house now... a company... and they made really good profit at the fair. And Karl..he’s become famous!"

His mother, Elira, had the same pale skin and deep blue eyes, but her expression was full of storm. She crossed her arms, anger flashing across her face.

"He is my son! No matter what—we’re family!" Elira snapped, her voice rising. "And I’ve taken care of him since he was a child. I fed him, clothed him, protected him... How can he not give us money now when we need it?!"

Their father, Danny, stood silently in the background. His hair was dark as night, and his eyes were cold and unreadable. He didn’t speak—but the look in his eyes showed something deeper... something dangerous.

"How could he not give us money?" Danny said, his voice cold like ice. He stood with arms behind his back, staring straight ahead with sharp, angry eyes. "I gave him birth. I gave him life. I gave him everything. Why wouldn’t he give us something back?"

His tone was low but full of hidden danger. "We’ll go tomorrow... to his new home. We’ll see things for ourselves."

The moment he finished speaking, both Lucien and Elira shivered.

Danny wasn’t like other obedient ghosts. He was greedy, cold-hearted, and cruel. He didn’t believe in love or kindness..he only saw numbers, gain, and control. His eyes were always calculating, always thinking about how to get more.

In the past, he used to treat Karl badly. Just because Karl didn’t learn to walk as fast as other children... because he was slower, more gentle, and quiet. Danny used to say Karl was useless...good for nothing. He never had patience with him. If Karl didn’t understand something the first time, Danny would hit the wall and shout until the whole house shook.

But Lucien... Lucien was different. Smart. Fast. Obedient. He learned quickly, always trying to impress his father and so Danny favored him.

And now, Karl...the ghost who used to cry alone in corners had found someone like Ruby.

Someone who gave him a home, respect, care... and something more.

Who knew Karl’s luck would turn around the moment Ruby stopped drinking and started walking her own path? The moment she stopped drowning in pain... she found her light.

Danny had sold Karl.

Just like that.

When Ruby’s aunt had come with a high price...offering money in exchange for the boy...Danny didn’t even think twice. He took the offer like it was a business deal, counted the cash with a straight face, and handed Karl over without a second look.

He never thought of Karl after that. Never worried, never missed him. In Danny’s eyes, Karl was sold..done, gone, no longer his responsibility. "If he ever grows up, he’ll probably come begging for money," Danny had once muttered coldly, because he knows how bad Ruby’s situation was.

Poor.

Homeless.

Alcoholic.

But no matter how bad things got, even if it meant going hungry, Karl never crawled back to beg for their money. He’d sooner starve than return to them.

And even with all that money in their hands, people like Danny and Elira... they never knew how to hold onto it. They spent it fast, throwing it away in moments of fake happiness..buying things they didn’t need, celebrating for nothing, acting like life would always be that easy.

The sweetness didn’t last.

Because people like them only knew how to taste joy...not keep it.

And now, after all the money was gone... they remembered the boy they had sold like a broken toy.

They remembered Karl.

But what they didn’t know... was that Karl was no longer the same ghost they had thrown away two years ago.

Ruby walked through the open gate, the sound of hammers and brushes echoing softly around the house. The renovation had started, and the air was full of dust, sunlight, and quiet determination.

She stepped inside to check how everything was going. Annie and her team were already there, working hard, their hands moving quickly and perfectly like they knew exactly what they were doing.

Ruby stood for a moment, watching them. The walls were getting their new color, the windows were being fixed, and the floors were starting to shine again.

She gave a small nod. "Looking good," she said softly, then walked over to Annie to give a few more instructions...where to place the furniture, how she wanted the lights, and what to finish first.

Annie listened carefully, writing things down and giving Ruby a confident thumbs-up.

Satisfied, Ruby left and walked to the big market taking ride from Uncle Otis. Her steps were steady, her mind already thinking about the next task.

She stopped at Ethan’s shop. and Ethan stood behind the counter, smiling as always.

"I’m here to pay the bill," Ruby said, handing over the amount for all the materials he had given to Rowan and Eilas. freeweɓnøvel~com

Ethan counted it swiftly and gave a nod. "All done."

Before leaving, Ruby glanced at him. "Tell Rowan and Eilas I’ve found the place. They can start their work once the renovation is complete."

Ethan offered a respectful nod with a smile. "Got it. I’ll let them know."

With that, Ruby stepped out of the shop, the sunlight brushing against her skin as the wind played gently with her hair. She didn’t smile often... but in that moment, something inside her felt proud.

Everything was finally coming together.

After leaving Ethan’s shop, Ruby walked toward the nearby stationery store. The shop was small but neat, with shelves full of notebooks, pens, and colorful supplies.

She picked up four plain A4 notebooks and a few pens...just some basic things she might need later. Her eyes landed on a few simple storybooks, and without thinking much, she added them to her basket too. On the way out, she grabbed a pack of sketch pens, liking the bright colors.

From there, she made her way to the general store.

She picked up facewash, soap, washing powder, and a few other household things that were running low. She didn’t rush, taking her time as she moved from one aisle to the next.

It was just a normal day.

But something about it felt peaceful. Quiet. Like a life finally falling into place.
