Chapter 237: Chapter 237 Showroom (2)

"Miss Ruby, those are our newest models," the salesperson said politely, leading her toward a row of smooth, shining vehicles. "They arrived just this week. This one here—" she pointed to a sleek silver-blue car, "—flies smoothly through the sky. Very popular in the city these days."

Ruby gave a small nod but didn’t seem too interested in the flashy one.

Her eyes were on something else.

A simple black car parked a little to the side. Its design was clean and slightly old-fashioned...round headlights, silver handles, and curved edges that gave it a quiet, elegant charm. It wasn’t glowing or polished to sparkle, but it looked strong and sturdy.

Unlike the others meant for high-speed sky gliding, this one was clearly built for low-altitude flying and land rides. It looked grounded. Safe.

Ruby walked toward it and placed her hand gently on the side, her fingers brushing over the cool surface. "This one feels right," she said softly.

Behind her, Milo was slowly circling another car, his eyes wide. He reached out and touched one of the shiny red models, his fingers lightly like if he pressed too hard, the whole thing might shatter.

And then he looked up.

The salesperson was watching him.

Milo froze on the spot. His hand dropped quickly, and his face turned red. He shuffled backward until he was standing behind Julian again and whispered, "I wasn’t breaking it, I swear..."

Julian chuckled and ruffled his hair gently.

The salesperson tilted her head. "You like this black one?" she asked Ruby, surprised. "It’s not very modern. It doesn’t fly as high as the others, and the features are simpler."

Ruby glanced at the others, then back to the car. "It looks strong. And quiet. I like that."

Karl, standing nearby with his arms crossed, nodded.

Adrian gave the car a once-over. He didn’t speak, but the slight lift of his brow meant he approved too.

"Can we try test driving first?" Ruby asked, her voice calm as she turned to the salesperson.

The witch smiled politely. "Of course, Miss. Please wait here for a moment—I’ll go get the keys."

"Sure," Ruby nodded.

As the salesperson walked away, Ruby turned back toward the black car, her eyes resting on it again. It wasn’t loud or flashy. It just... felt right.

She placed her hand gently on the cool surface once more, then glanced at the boys behind her.

"Did you guys like it?" she asked softly.

Milo nodded quickly, his eyes still sparkling. "It looks strong... but gentle," he said, tilting his head. "Like it won’t fly too fast and leave us behind."

Julian smiled, his eyes following the lines of the car’s design. "It feels safe," he said simply.

Karl walked around it once, knocking on the side panel proudly. "It looks like it can hit a tree and still keep flying," he declared. "I approve."

Adrian didn’t say anything right away. He looked at the car carefully, then at Ruby. His eyes were quiet, but the smallest nod gave her his silent agreement again.

"Wife! I like it!" Karl said excitedly, his eyes shining as he placed both hands on the black car. "Will you let me drive??"

He looked at her with the purest, most hopeful smile.

Ruby froze.

And in that exact moment—

A memory crashed into her mind.

It was that day. That awful day.

When Karl had stolen someone’s ecto bike, just to come save her. He had shown up dramatically, yelling, "Stupid wife!"

But the moment she did?

The Ecto bike went flipping sideways, up, down, and all around, spinning through the sky like a possessed broomstick. Ruby had screamed the entire time, clutching Karl’s back like her soul was about to leave her body.

She was nearly flung off mid-air.

She had seen heaven.

Bright light, flying birds, and everything.

Back then, she had sworn never again.

And now, standing in a calm, beautiful showroom, he dared to ask if he could drive.

Ruby blinked at him, expression blank.

"...No," she said firmly.

Karl tilted his head. "Why not?"

Julian coughed softly. He remembered too.

Milo was staring at Ruby like she was a war survivor.

Even Adrian’s brows twitched slightly.

Ruby just gave Karl a look. A very long look.

"Because I value my life," she said flatly. "And I don’t want to fly into heaven again today."

Karl pouted. "That was one time!"

"You nearly made me a god that day."

"I got better!"

"Do you want to walk back to the hotel?"

"...I’ll sit quietly in the backseat."

Milo couldn’t hold it anymore—he let out a soft giggle, covering his mouth with both hands as he tried not to laugh out loud.

But Karl caught him.

His eyes narrowed. "Aren’t you laughing too much, Milo!!" he said, glaring with full dramatic offense. "I’m going to—"

Milo blinked innocently. "What are you going to do, heheh, Brother Karl?"

His grin was already giving him away.

And the next second—

"You asked for it!" Karl shouted, running toward him like a kid with a mission.

Milo squealed, turned to run, but he didn’t make it far.

Karl caught him and started tickling him mercilessly, fingers digging into Milo’s sides as he laughed louder and louder.

"No—no, Brother Karl! You’re so bad! Hahahaha!" Milo cried out, twisting and wriggling, unable to breathe from laughing.

His cheeks turned red from giggles, eyes squeezed shut, and his hands tried to block Karl’s fingers with no success.

Ruby watched with a soft smile, shaking her head while the showroom staff looked mildly confused.

And just when Milo thought it was over...

Squish!

Karl grabbed his flushed cheeks and squished them gently, back and forth.

"Squishy, squishy little troublemaker!" Karl teased, laughing himself now.

Milo puffed his cheeks like a pouting bun. "I’ll tell Wife!"

"Go ahead!" Karl grinned, still squishing.

Julian sighed softly with amusement.

Adrian didn’t smile, but the corner of his mouth lifted... just slightly.

"Don’t be naughty! There are cars around!" Ruby warned, her hands on her hips as she gave them both a sharp look.
