Chapter 82: The Day Of Competition

Julian walked toward the stage on the right side of the field.

"I already guessed it" Anto said nonchalantly, playing with the nail of his right index finger.

Wiro grabbed Julian by the collar with his right hand and shouted.

"Damn it! How long are you going to be a coward, HUH!?" Wiro asked, annoyed.

"Wiro... Chill~, we’re attracting a lot of attention" Alvin said with a gentle smile.

Wiro looked around. Several students were starting to glance their way—some curiously, others whispering. He took a deep breath and roughly released Julian’s collar.

"Tch... damn!" Wiro muttered.

Wiro sat back down.

"Sorry, Julian!" Wiro said.

"It’s okay" Julian replied quietly with a blank expression.

"So, Julian. What’s making it difficult for you to tell the truth?" Alvin asked.

"I... I just don’t know the right time yet," Julian replied quietly.

The atmosphere fell silent, as his three friends stared at him seriously.

"Haa... Julian, I’ve already told you that you should tell her the truth soon, rather than hurting Anindya" Anto said, holding his coffee cup.

"Anto’s right, once a woman falls in love, it’s hard to let go of a man. That’s why I suggest you find the right moment before she falls too deeply in love with you" Alvin said.

"That’s right, just take her out on a romantic date and tell her the truth" Wiro said seriously.

"Don’t you feel like something’s bothering you while you’re keeping the bet a secret?" Wiro asked.

Julian nodded. Wiro glanced at Julian as he sipped his coffee. After drinking, Wiro said,

"Then, I hope you tell her soon so your love doesn’t seem like a game and your heart doesn’t feel restrained" Wiro said, holding his coffee cup.

Julian continued walking leisurely toward the stage.

"They’re right, I forgot about it because I was enjoying our date so much, but I still don’t have the courage to tell Anindya the truth," Julian said to himself with a sad expression.

"Plus, Anindya isn’t an ordinary person" Julian continued with a frightened expression, imagining Anindya’s terrifying expression.

Julian had already reached the front of the stage—he stopped, his gaze still downcast. Julian began to clench his fists as he said,

"Damn! I have so many things to tell her" Julian said to himself.

"Are Julian? What are you doing here?" Kaza asked.

Julian lifted his head to find Kaza standing in front of him, wearing a similar t-shirt and an Indonesian flag headband.

"I-I came here to help you guys" Julian replied.

"You’re late~... we’re already done, hahaha" Kaza said with an excited laugh.

"Huh? You guys decorated the stage so quickly" Julian said, slightly amazed.

"Of course, some of us made the decorations at home, so we just have to put them up at school," Kaza said enthusiastically.

"By the way, where are Wiro and the others?" Kaza asked.

"They’re at the cafe near the school garden" Julian replied.

"They’re taking a break, but they didn’t invite me!" Kaza said irritably.

"Okay, I’ll go after them" Kaza continued.

"Okay," Julian replied.

Kaza ran away from Julian. As he watched Kaza leave, Julian saw Anindya walking with her classmates. Their gazes met, but Anindya quickly looked away.

"Hmph!"

"Ah, I thought she was still angry, haha" Julian said with an awkward laugh.

At 08:42.

The school field had been cleared, with canopies for each majors on each side of the field. On the left side of the field, there was a special canopy for the announcers to sit under. The announcers were the student council president, usually called Yusuf, and the vice president, usually called Rembulan.

"ASSALAMU’ALAIKUM—GOOD MORNING, FREEDOM FIGHTERS!" Yusuf shouted in a booming voice.

"WAALAIKUMSALAM—MORNING!!" the students replied in unison, cheers immediately echoing throughout the field.

The student council president chuckled.

"Khekhek, great, I like your enthusiasm, guys" Yusuf said.

He continued in an equally enthusiastic tone.

"So, are you ready for today’s first competition!?" Yusuf asked.

"READY!!!" the participants and spectators answered almost in unison.

"Okay, I’ll read out the competitions the school will be holding" said Yusuf.

Yusuf began to unfold the folded paper.

"Okay, the order of the competitions is: Relay Race, Tug of War, Football, Wooden Clog Race, Greased Pole Climbing, and finally, The Last Standing" Yusuf said.

Cheers erupted again as the competition list was announced. Some students immediately applauded, others whistled, while others began small discussions with their classmates—discussing strategies and the order of the participants.

"Oh, and one more thing, this event will last until the evening, because tonight the school will light a large bonfire and be entertained by our school band" Yusuf said.

"During the day, those who wish to go home early are welcome to do so" Yusuf continued.

"Hee~, so this event will last until the evening" Julian said, looking at the announcers.

"Then—" Julian continued.

Suddenly, Kaza wrapped his arms around Julian’s neck from his left side.

"Julian~!" Kaza said, wrapping his right arm around Julian’s neck.

Julian was a little surprised and looked to his left.

"Kaza... You didn’t have to do that" said Julian, annoyed.

"Ahahahaha, sorry, sorry~" Kaza said with a laugh.

Kaza wasn’t alone—he came with Wiro, Alvin, Anto, Dimas, and Joyce.

"Julian, are you staying here until night?" Wiro asked.

"I don’t know yet, I’ll see the situation first," Julian replied. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"Hoo~, he’s probably waiting for Anindya. If Anindya wants to stay all night, he’ll stay all night," Joyce teased with a mischievous smile.

Julian’s cheeks immediately turned red.

"W-what, n-not like that!" Julian said shyly.

Julian’s friends laughed at Julian’s shyness; they loved teasing him.

"ALL 11-M GRADE STUDENTS, GATHER HERE~!" Silica shouted from her class canopy on the right side of the stage.

Everyone in class 11-M turned to the source of the voice. Julian saw Silica standing in front of the class 11-M canopy, her right hand waving high, while her other hand held a small board displaying the list of competition participants. Her pink shirt contrasted with the red and white ribbon on her arm, making her easily recognizable from a distance.

"Let’s go, let’s go to our class canopy" Wiro said.

"Okay," his friends replied.

They moved toward the class 11-M canopy. Under the canopy, a large carpet had been set up, which could accommodate 20 people. Not only the carpet but also four boxes containing twelve 600ml bottles of mineral water were provided. Some were sitting on the carpet, some were standing drinking water, and still others were busy arranging competition accessories to be attached to their bodies. Silica stood in the center, her face serious—leader mode in full effect.

"Is everyone gathered?" Silica asked.

"Yes!" all the students replied.

"Okay, I’ll begin, Assalamu’alaikum—Good morning everyone~!" Silica said.

"Waalaikumsalam—Morning!" the students replied.

"Okay, the first race is a relay race, so we need someone who can run fast" Silica said.

Silica began looking at the small board she was holding in her left hand.

"That’s why I’ve been taking data from Physical Education, and I’ve found the right people for the relay race: Wiro, Dimas, Julian, Joyce, and Agus" Silica said.

Silica looked at her friends.

"This decision is based on your running speed records from last semester, so no complaints!" Silica said.

"Chill, I’m ready anytime!" Wiro said with a smile and a thumbs-up.

Dimas grinned.

"Just a relay race, it’s easy to me" Joyce said.

Dimas crossed her arms over her chest.

"When it comes to running... don’t underestimate me" Dimas said.

All eyes then turned to Julian. He flinched slightly, as if just realizing his name had been called.

"Julian?" Silica called.

"H-huh? Oh—yes, I’m in" Julian replied quickly, though his face still looked thoughtful.

Silica stared at him for a moment, then nodded.

"Good. We’ll decide the running order after the warm-up," Silica said.

"Everyone... The relay race will start in five minutes," Rembulan said.

"So, each class is expected to have chosen their representatives to participate" Rembulan continued.

Silica looked at her friends.

"Alright, let’s fight to the bitter end!" Silica said enthusiastically.

"OHHHHH!!!" replied the entire 11-M class.

Anindya, watching from a distance, could only snort and look away.

"Hmph!"
