Chapter 157: Alyssa’s Flawed Scheme

"What the... fuck?"

For several seconds, Aaron couldn’t comprehend how he suddenly started to understand the mushroom woman’s language.

And surrounding him, the chatter of other mushroom folks began to distort, slowly each and every word of their mouths began to translate in his mind, allowing him to understand what they were saying.

It reminded Aaron of that scene from the quantumania film, where a slime’s bodily fluids allowed the humans to understand the quantum languages.

His eyes wandered across the mushroom folks, trying to find the source of that liquid like bead, which had transformed into liquid the moment it entered his mouth.

He disregarded the men, gazing at the two mushroom ladies.

One was shorter, appearing like a cute little kid with the same red coloured mushroom cap as her mother.

While the blue colour dressed woman appeared much more mature and older, like a woman at her peak.

And god forbid, Aaron even found her bodily curves to be interesting, looking at the small bulge at the rear and chest.

"Control your language, a person from another race." The blue dressed woman said, nodding her head gently.

And listening to her words, Aaron did calm down slightly, ignoring the distinct chatter of the other mushfolks.

Yes, he named them mushfolks himself.

"Where... am I?" he asked cautiously, trying to maintain his crass language in front of the woman who clearly appeared like the nobility of this weird, small race.

"You are in the town of Narcos, and you can refer to me as Alyssa." She said calmly, "We found you wreaking havoc onto our fields before you passed out from overdose."

’Even their town’s name has the presence of narcotics, tsk, druggie stoners.’ Aaron thought but didn’t dare say that out loud to the woman’s face.

To her, he said this instead:

"Greetings, lady. I am a traveller from far away, trying to find my way to someplace known as Drax. I heard it’s a capital city." Taking a pause, he continued, "And I apologise deeply for any loss I may have unknowingly caused to you and your people, it really wasn’t my intention to do so."

Even he himself was surprised how he was able to act so eloquently but he didn’t get time to appreciate it as a loud cough attracted his attention.

It was out of his line of sight, but he could hear the feminine, old voice that had earlier scolded Alyssa; or so he had thought, at least.

"You caused us a loss of so many good narcoshrooms, which we were tending to for years! Because of you, we are going to be short on the narcoshrooms for the Grand Feast!" She blamed him openly and loudly.

Accompanying her words, a loud cheer erupted from her people, each of them adding onto their own complaints.

Hell, one of them even doubled down to say that it was due to Aaron that man lost his child!

Though after listening to that complaint, Aaron could only narrow his eyes at the mushfolks, squinting to try and find something that may resemble the tool required for reproduction.

But sadly, they were as flat as a board. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

The only beings he could consider capable of reproduction would be the two noble looking women in front of his eyes.

However, that is also to say that he wouldn’t be surprised if these weird people reproduced by ramming their feet into the mushroom like caps of their partners.

How? He doesn’t know. It was just his first thought.

"Great elder, I have a suggestion." Alyssa came to Aaron’s rescue before he could try apologizing to the ’great elder’.

"What is your suggestion?" The great elder said with obvious displeasure in her tone.

"How about... we deal with our competition?" Alyssa said in a low, evil tone, "This... man, he is large and physically quite robust for the other tribes to harm. Maybe... just maybe, if we increase his narcotic resistance, he could help us destroy their supplies and maybe even steal the golden shrooms from them?"

A collective gasp went around the whole town of mushfolks, most of them favouring Alyssa’s evil suggestion while the others held doubts.

And it seemed like the great elder was among the latter.

"What guarantee do we have that this man wouldn’t betray us?" She asked calmly.

"I wouldn’t–"

"Silent."

The great elder coldly cut off Aaron’s words, "You will not speak until you’re told to."

"He just asked us for directions to the city of Drax. We wouldn’t tell him until he does our task for us." Alyssa replied after a brief moment of thought.

"That’s bullshit." The great elder scoffed, "Other tribes know of the directions as well, he can simply ask them for the directions on the basis of his sheer size and they will comply to not invite harm upon themselves.

I for one wouldn’t hesitate to tell the directions if this man posed a threat to my tribe."

Aaron blinked incredulously, this woman was smart. No wonder she was greatly respected as the great elder.

He indeed was thinking of betraying them the moment he was released from the binds and overdose of their potent drugs.

Though he won’t have bothered to harass other tribes, he would’ve simply grabbed Alyssa and forced her to tell him the directions lest he steps on her lovely cute daughter.

"Then..." Alyssa trailed off, not getting any ideas to back her story up with.

"Haha." The great elder laughed, "It’s okay, Alyssa. You had a great plan, just not the proper execution."

As her sentence finished, a low creaking sound followed after her as Aaron saw the swarm of mushfolks part away, forming a way for their elder.

And then he saw her, a mushroom woman that was double the size of Alyssa, appearing similar to Alyssa in every way except the colour of her clothes, which were purple in her case, and the faintly glowing golden mushroom cap on her head.

She reached Aaron’s head in just a few strides, her face curling into a grin as he reached into her mushroom skin clothes and pulled out a syringe like object.

And without any mercy, she stabbed it directly into Aaron’s cheek.
