My Life In A Fantasy, Women-Dominated World-Chapter 73: Magic Runes
"Magic weapon? For a man?"
Aaron didn’t miss a beat, nodding calmly, "Yes, I want something that can enhance my magic while also being effective at melee range."
He had already talked to Claire about it and after a decently long discussion, swordstaff came out to be the best choice for his requirements.
The cashier’s eyes widened slightly, surprised, "Ah." she nodded gently, regaining her nerves before continuing:
"A swordstaff can indeed be good for such a requirement, however we don’t have any magic weapon in stock. Forget about a swordstaff. Though, we can commission one for you. It should be ready in about a week or two."
She flashed him a sweet smile.
"Two weeks for a single weapon?" Claire asked up, no longer blushing from embarrassment. Or even if she was still ashamed, she didn’t show it.
The cashier turned to Claire, "Yes, the workload is high due to increased requests."
Claire nodded in understanding.
Due to the labyrinth breaks and anomalies, there had been a sharp increase in monster activities which caused an increase in the requirement of weapons, potions and supplies.
"Well, how much?" she asked.
The cashier shrugged, "Depends on the kinds of runes you want. Also if they are too complex, the time taken may increase."
"How about a simple magic amplifying rune along with self repair?" Claire hummed.
"You call that simple...?" the lady blinked, then glanced at Jaq and Claire back and forth.
In the end, her eyes settled onto Jaq, squinting with a blank stare as if asking ’seriously?’.
After seeing that Jaq was no help, the cashier stared at Claire and Aaron.
"Let me clarify some things for you, miss." She stated, "A simple ’magic amplifying rune’ is not a simple rune. It is called simple because its effect is simple, not the process.
We need to first take many mana samples from the user, then use those samples to etch very specific runes into the magic cores, which is then embedded into the weapon.
Not only are all these processes very intricate, there is a high risk of them breaking and we need to restart from the beginning. Does that sound ’simple’ to you?"
She took a deep breath to calm herself down, but then remembering about the second request, she burst out again.
"And self repairing rune?! Do you think any random tom dick harry material possesses the power to regenerate?! Only magic core items and those with very high mana conductivity such as mythril can be etched with the self repair rune!
You want a self repair weapon, you bring me the materials. We don’t have any of those."
Claire’s eyelids twitched at the cashier’s rant, "Adamantite is mana conductive right?"
"Wrong." The cashier raised a finger, waving it around, "It’s mana resistive. Good for defense, bad for offense."
She sighed dramatically and glared at Jaq, "I thought I said serious customers only."
"Yeah and I seem like the serious type to you, eh?" Jaq giggled, "Chillax, Dahlia. Staying in the forge is making you too hot headed. Go out, grab a beer or something."
"I don’t have any interest in wasting my life like that." Dahlia scoffed, looking back at Claire and Aaron, "So?"
"Well what runes are accepted in the ’simple’ category then?" Aaron asked, noticing Claire’s unusually snarky attitude.
Normally she seemed much calmer, especially for diplomatic talks.
"Good question." Dahlia clapped her hand, pulling out a leathery poster.
"There are quite a few that can be inscribed into your weapon within a week or two. And don’t worry, if you want to reforge or add runes later, the shop is always open." she added in a sugary tone before letting Aaron read the poster in peace.
It was written on a long strap of some leather, greyish white in colour and etched with black ink. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
// Utility Rune //
// Attack Rune //
// Defense Rune //
// Healing Rune ( Only for holy mana ) //
// Physical Rune //
// Mental Rune //
There were 6 options, but Aaron easily ticked off the healing rune.
He didn’t have any holy mana, and if he had to guess, maybe Eva’s golden mana was what was known as the holy mana?
There was still more research that needed to be done on the topic, but this wasn’t the time for that.
He raised Claire in his arms, allowing her to read the runes as well, humming in thought.
"So, I can get the magic amplifying rune inscribed later when the workload is lower?" Aaron asked after reading through the list.
Dahlia nodded, "Yes. Do you want me to explain the runes in detail?"
Claire hissed with a tint of jealousy, "I bet you explain all the rest of your customers as well."
It was a direct dig at Dahlia’s intentions, but she seemed unfazed.
"Of course not." She shrugged her shoulders, her muscles rippling slightly, "But this is the first time I am seeing a man who is interested in buying, not just running an errand or something."
"So, do you want me to explain?" Dahlia asked in a sugary tone, ignoring Claire’s taunt easily.
Aaron looked at her, her split hair, split pupils, tanned body, beautiful face, a well toned, sexy figure. Everything about her was charming, yet, he shook his head.
"It’s fine," he said simply, looking at Claire in his arms, "Can you tell me instead?"
For a few moments, Claire was surprised that Aaron didn’t undermine her reputation. She blinked incredulously, before smiling brightly.
"Utility rune will be the best for you, it will increase the effectiveness of your skill when you use it through the weapon’s core." Claire said, "And if another rune is possible to be integrated, I would suggest a defense rune, it can give you a weapon specific skill."
"A rune specific skill, to be precise." Dahlia intercepted, but she was ignored by Claire, who asked a question instead.
"So, can you do two runes in a week or two?" Claire smiled.
Dahlia’s eyelids twitched, but business was business.
She didn’t take it to heart and nodded, "Possible. Defense and utility go hand in hand, so my colleagues are quite used to integrating them."
Dahlia took a pause to see if any of them had anything else to ask, before continuing:
"Well, if that’s all, you need to finalize the weapon design, materials and the extra details if any."
