Chapter 119: Sudden Class Evolution

"Crack," "Skrieeeeek."

Dennis yanked his hand out of a tusk crawler’s body, and it collapsed instantly, no longer moving. He stood up and turned to see his wife, Daisy, behind him, gasping for air after defeating her enemy. He also saw Gary and Olivia looking exhausted, as were Jason and Kimberly. Beyond them, many 10th and 11th-grade students were panting, some propping up those wounded in the recent fight. Despite the carnage, all the monsters had been defeated, leaving everyone looking like a mess—their clothes soaked and covered in blood and slime.

Afterward, Dennis looked at his hand and clenched it. He could still feel energy surging through his body. He deactivated Blood Bath and Ultimate Cry for his friends, then realized he had been using Blood Bath for 30 minutes without slipping into a berserk state.

"This is really weird," Dennis muttered in his heart.

Suddenly, someone tapped his shoulder. Dennis turned to see Gary standing beside him. Gary pointed toward a 10th-grade student lying on the ground.

"We have a casualty this time, man," Gary said with a grim face.

"Yeah... you’re right," Dennis replied, watching the 10th grader. The boy was being mourned by his friends and likely his wife, who was cradling him.

Nearby, Daisy, Olivia, Kimberly, and Jason who stood behind Kimberly with a hand on her shoulder, looked on in silent grief. Dennis could also see an injured Mario being supported by Viola, Franky and Fiona standing nearby, also Andrew with his wife, Clara. They all felt the weight of mourning as they looked at the 10th grader, whose body had gone stiff, hands placed over his stomach, eyes closed forever.

Eventually, they all carried the student’s body back to the school to lay him to rest. Dennis followed them and caught up to Daisy. He reached out and touched her shoulder, and she immediately held his hand in return.

"Honey, promise me, don’t leave me," Daisy whispered as she watched the 10th graders carry their friend’s body in front of her.

"Yes, I promise. You too, okay? Don’t leave me," Dennis replied, sensing his wife’s deep sadness.

"I won’t, I promise. Same goes for the others," Daisy answered.

A solemn, heavy silence fell over them, though the core team—led by Dennis—remained alert in case another dimensional rift opened. Once they entered the school building and passed the gates, the student’s body was taken into an empty classroom and laid to rest. Nearly all the 10th graders crowded in front of the room, including Franky and Fiona. Meanwhile, the wounded were immediately treated by Nicole and the medical team in the auditorium, which had been turned into a temporary medical center.

Dennis, Daisy, Gary, Olivia, Jason, and Kimberly returned to the gate to keep watch, sitting against the security post with the gates locked tight. The six of them stayed silent, no one speaking a word. The only sound was the faint, muffled commotion coming from inside the school building. After a few moments, Jason broke the silence.

"A human life is so fragile... his wife had just told him she was pregnant. It’s devastating," Jason muttered.

"Do you know his name, bro?" Dennis asked.

"Brandon. His wife’s name is Emily. I didn’t know them personally, but I heard his friends calling him that, and I heard his wife wailing, saying she’d only just told him she was pregnant," Jason answered.

"I heard it too; his friends reported it to me," Gary noted.

"This is the first time we’ve had a casualty... I don’t think there were any last year," Olivia said.

"But it’s true, that monster attack just now was incredibly intense... it didn’t stop, like a rushing river. Many of us were injured, and some are in pretty bad shape," Kimberly replied.

"It really was. Compared to previous years, this time is definitely worse. I just hope there aren’t any casualties at the other schools," Daisy added.

"We’ve still got about eight hours until we hit land and are truly clear of the center of darkness. Until then, we hold the line," Gary said, checking his watch.

"Huuh... still a long way to go," Olivia muttered, leaning back.

They fell silent again, wrapped in a thick blanket of grief. Dennis held Daisy’s hand, just as Gary held Olivia’s and Jason held Kimberly’s. Looking at Brandon and Emily, they realized the same fate could befall them if they weren’t careful. As he sat lost in thought, suddenly, "vwooong," an interface appeared before Dennis’s eyes. He scanned it briefly and started to lean back again, but then he realized the text he’d just seen wasn’t normal. He snapped his attention back to the interface, and after reading the contents, his eyes nearly popped out of his head. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

[Barbarian Class level 99 reached. Do you wish to evolve? [Yes] [No]]

"Huh... level... 99? Me?" Dennis asked.

Without delay, he opened his status interface. This time, the display was no longer distorted; it showed his true level and condition.

Dennis gasped, physically jolting as he read his status. He read it over and over, blinking repeatedly to make sure he wasn’t seeing things. He even pinched his arm and felt the sting.

"Sami... why did my level suddenly hit the cap? Did I really level up that much?" Dennis asked.

[That is correct, Master. The enemies you faced this time were numerous, and you unknowingly raised your level while the system was glitching earlier.]

"Oh boy... how did it end up like this," Dennis muttered.

[Rest assured, Master. If measured by the Guild, your power is only 80,000.]

"Really? How’s that possible?" Dennis asked.

[What the Guild gauge or Analyze skill refers to as ’power’ is the total average of all stats divided by body condition and minus weapons. So, after calculation, your power is 80,000—still less than one of your wives, who has a measurable power of 99,999.]

"I don’t even know anymore. My head hurts," Dennis replied.

Hearing Sami’s words, Dennis suddenly remembered something terrifying. He immediately opened his Clone skill interface to check it.

******************************************

Manager Skill: Create Rooster Clone

Description: This skill is useful for duplicating members’ bodies if needed in war or during desperate situations due to a lack of troops. If a member is killed, they will be revived as a clone and their soul will be stored within the clone for a 30-day limit. This duration can be extended and even become permanent as the talent owner grows stronger and reaches a higher level.

Current Number of Clones: 6

Clone Duration: 42 months

"Blam." It felt like a bolt of lightning struck Dennis’s head. He slowly turned to glance at his wife leaning against him. The six personalities that had become like sisters to her were now set to remain in the real world for 42 months. A mix of emotions began to fill Dennis’s heart.

"Oh man... why did it turn out like this... I’m happy, but I also feel uneasy... ah... I’m confused," Dennis muttered in his head.

[So, do you wish to evolve your class, Master? You will return to level one, and your power will drop slightly to 30,000 if measured by the Guild.]

"Hmm... alright," Dennis replied.

Dennis closed his status and skill descriptions, then pressed ’Yes’ on the evolution prompt. A new interface appeared,

*********************************************

Barbarian Evolve Menu:

1. Barbarian King (Maximum) - Select

2. Berserker (Next evolve: Beast Berserker – Berserker King (max)) - Select

*********************************************

Dennis immediately pressed ’Berserker.’ The interface closed, only for another to pop up right in front of his face.

[Evolve in progress... body shut down... 90... 80...]

"Wait, wait, wait—"

Too late. As the countdown hit zero, Dennis lost consciousness and slumped over onto Daisy next to him. This, of course, caused a total panic for Daisy, Gary, Olivia, Jason, and Kimberly in the middle of their mourning.

"Honey... what’s wrong, honey... oh no, your body is burning up!" Daisy screamed in a panic, clutching Dennis’s forehead as he slumped beside her.

Gary immediately placed his hand on Dennis’s brow. He flinched in surprise; Dennis’s body was incredibly hot, his temperature clearly skyrocketing far beyond normal. Gary examined Dennis thoroughly, peeling back his eyelids and checking his pulse before standing up.

"Let’s get him inside. He’s okay... it looks like he’s undergoing a second awakening," Gary said.

"What... a second awakening?" Kimberly asked, stunned.

"Whoa... that means once he wakes up, he’ll be even stronger than before," Olivia noted.

"Come on, dude, let’s get him moved," Jason added, getting to his feet.

Without wasting a second, Gary and Jason hoisted the unconscious Dennis up to carry him inside. Daisy followed anxiously, flanked by Olivia and Kimberly, who put their arms around her to offer support and keep her spirits up.
