Chapter 38: Unwelcomed Visitors (4)

If they noticed something about him... his strength, for example...

Everything would change.

He was strong enough that he didn’t think even a four-circle mage would be able to beat him.

And he was still not even five years old.

Then, when he grows up... how much more strength would he have?

And if his siblings ever found this out, what would happen?

They would be scared... and so, they would come at him with all their might.

His strength was a threat to all of them, after all.

As for expecting the king, or anyone, to take his side because of his talent?

Ellis didn’t expect that.

People had always been afraid of the unknown.

So they would probably come at him too... even if under a different pretext.

But even if that wasn’t the case, he still didn’t want to depend on something like that.

His strength was the only thing he trusted.

The only thing he would ever rely on.

So, he hoped... he hoped that they didn’t test his limit. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

Because, as he saw Silas’s expression still downcast, he knew that he probably wouldn’t be able to endure much more.

And if things reached that point, he would probably just kill all those he could, then finally run away.

While his emotions had finally started calming down at this moment, he suddenly saw Silas lower her head even more when she caught his gaze, as if she couldn’t meet his eyes.

And Ellis, instead of becoming more angry, calmed down even further.

But, his eyes?

They were glowing chillingly... eerily, in that moment.

His gray eyes gleamed with a dangerous light, and he wondered.

It wasn’t like they hadn’t received disdainful or ridiculing gazes from others before. So why now... why, just from a few words spoken by that bitch, had Silas become this fragile?

With these thoughts swirling in his mind, he asked, "What’s wrong with you? Did you really take her words to heart?"

His voice was low, and its sharpness remained hidden... because the person he was talking to was Silas, after all. But still, he was irritated by this whole situation.

Silas shook her head hurriedly before saying, "It’s not like that... it’s just that I feel like my existence is suddenly causing problems for you, Master."

Her voice cracked as she continued, "And they were probably right. Maybe I really—"

"Don’t."

After, interrupting Silas with a cold voice, Ellis didn’t stop.

"Don’t continue."

"Look at me, Silas."

"Who do you think is the one who should be determining your worth?"

"It’s me."

"Not them. Do you understand?"

Had they been in his previous world, he would’ve tried to be considerate in how he said it.

He would’ve told her that she herself was the one who decided her worth, and no one else had the right to do so.

That she should have confidence... she should raise her head high, and she should treasure herself.

But this was another world. Not the Earth he used to live in.

And he didn’t plan to force the common sense of his old world onto her. Not like Earth was that much better, anyway.

So, instead of saying something she probably wouldn’t be able to accept...

He could be more direct with what he wanted. Like this.

He could give her certainty. Something she could hold onto.

Something no one could question.

And seeing her eyes, seeing her expression as she actually blushed... he felt that his choice was right.

Moreover, Ellis had a conviction.

He just needed to treat her better...

And then, one day, when he was strong enough, looking down on many, and she was standing beside him, she would understand.

Where she stood... and where the others stood.

Be it someone like those two maids, or nobles... or even royals.

Ellis just needed to have enough strength, and everything would be solved on its own.

So, with that out of the way too, Ellis, noticing that Silas had finally returned to her usual self, asked, "So, what happened exactly?"

Silas, who was now feeling as if butterflies were dancing in her stomach from happiness... from the joy of how much her master seemed to treasure her, finally snapped back to her senses and began recounting what had happened.

"It all started when I went out to get some side chores done, along with picking up a few books for Master."

’Books?’ Ellis couldn’t help but blink when he heard that word.

’It couldn’t possibly be because she saw me spending time in the library again, after I stopped going once I began knight training... right?’

Ellis felt like facepalming at this piece of information.

Even though he had started reading again, it wasn’t like it had been in the past.

Now, he just wanted to enrich his knowledge, since the Blue Flame Aura Technique was too difficult to comprehend fully.

He hoped reading might help with the parts he was having trouble understanding... nothing more.

’Did she feel that the books in the current library weren’t good enough?’ he wondered.

Meanwhile, Silas continued, "And so, right after arriving at the royal library, someone from the staff working there came and told me that the head maid was calling for me."

"I decided there was no need to delay meeting her, so I immediately went to her. But then, after we met, she started asking me about you, Master."

"She wanted to know so many details, while hinting that I couldn’t possibly be satisfied with working in this palace."

Remembering how angry she had been when she heard the head maid’s speech, Silas’s good mood from Ellis’s earlier words couldn’t help but be ruined again.

Still, she took a deep breath, trying to calm herself before she continued,

"After I refused to say much, just telling her that you were doing well, she changed her attitude. And then, I was informed that I would be kicked out from my job as a maid here on the royal grounds."

Arriving at this point, Ellis, now starting to connect the dots along with hearing her last sentence, couldn’t help but feel his mood grow gloomy again.

And Silas, noticing that, hurriedly said, "But don’t worry, Master. Even if she has the authority, she still can’t fire me... at least, not that easily."

"I’m your maid, after all."

"So if you don’t agree, and she still tries to fire me anyway, it would cause a lot of trouble. Many people would need to interfere. And so, even if she is the head maid, I doubt she’d really go that far."
