My Unrestrained Lives-Chapter 41: Two Kind of Aura
Ellis had his gaze linger on Silas’s exquisite figure, as she quietly climbed onto his bed... a bed far too large for someone as small as him.
Then, as she laid down in silence.
Ellis, only then, snapped out of his trance.
He walked slowly to her side, and couldn’t stop himself from stealing another glance, and admire her beauty.
Then, he climbed onto the bed and sat beside her.
He closed his eyes for a brief moment, calming himself, and sweeping away any lingering, distracting thoughts that tried to rise.
Then, taking a deep breath, he slowly reached out his small hand...
And gently placed it on her bare stomach.
His palm met her warm skin, soft, smooth, and trembling faintly beneath his touch. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
The sensation lingered, tempting him to pause longer than necessary.
But Ellis knew. Now wasn’t the time to dwell on such things.
So, he focused his mind, and activated his Mana Sense skill.
He wanted to understand her exact condition before he decided whether to proceed with the next step.
And as the skill activated, her condition was finally bare to him.
And what he saw... surprised him.
There were two distinct types of Aura swirling within her.
They didn’t belong together. They weren’t working in harmony.
Instead, they were in conflict.
At this moment, though, the two forces had reached a standoff, frozen in a static, tense balance.
Ellis spent a few moments sensing each of them in turn.
And then he frowned. Deeply.
Opening his eyes, he turned to Silas, and in a firm, low voice, asked, "How about you finally tell me how you were injured like this?"
He had asked before... but Silas always avoided answering, brushing it off, pretending it didn’t matter.
So he tried not to push her. He tried to respect her boundaries.
He had only known that there was something wrong with the mana in her body.
Mana.
But what he discovered now wasn’t mana... it was Aura.
Two kinds of Aura.
That she had already awakened her own Aura was surprising in itself... but the second type didn’t even belong to her.
It was from the one who had wounded her. A foreign Aura, still lingering inside her, clashing with her own.
And that... that made Ellis angry.
Not at her. But at the one who had done this to her.
And so, he wanted an answer, and he felt he deserved it.
Noticing the seriousness in his gaze and the weight of the moment, Silas, naturally decided not to hide things anymore. And so, she began to explain.
She first spoke of her days as a squire, training hard to becoming a knight. She told him how, back then, she was considered something of a genius.
Then, she stated what Ellis already knew... that Aura Awakening doesn’t happen instantly. It takes time. Usually, when the moment comes, it takes about one or two hours for the full process to complete.
And then, she finally reached the most important part.
"And so, when I was awakening my Aura... at the very last moment, I was attacked from behind."
"It was a girl older than me. She was always jealous. And when she saw I was finally going to catch up to her, she attacked me. I was injured."
"And that’s all."
She said it all in a calm, detached voice, as if recounting something that happened to someone else... not her.
But for Silas, it truly no longer mattered.
That injury had cost her the future she once dreamed of... but in exchange, it had brought her to a new path.
Because of it, she had become a maid.
And because of that, she had met Ellis... her master.
On the other hand, Ellis felt fury rising in him again.
It seemed that everything today was trying to chip away at his sense of control. But still, he forced himself to calm down and asked with restraint,
"Why weren’t you treated? Who did that to you? And... what happened to her?"
At those questions, Silas let out a soft, bitter chuckle.
"An orphan like me doesn’t have the luxury of treatment... even if I performed outstandingly during training. Not when the attacker was someone from a prestigious knight family."
"As for the culprit..."
Silas hesitated. Her eyes lowered for a moment. But in the end, knowing she couldn’t possibly hide it from her master, she finally answered.
"The culprit is the current Vice Commander of the Royal Knights. So... nothing happened to her."
Ellis fell silent.
He didn’t know the woman personally, but her being the Vice Commander meant something else. It meant that Galen must know her.
And if Galen knew her... then surely, he must have also known what happened to Silas.
Despite that, he still came here... shamelessly, as if nothing had happened?
How dare he?
Ellis took a slow breath. And then, still giving Galen the benefit of doubt, he asked quietly, "Does Galen... know about this incident?"
Silas, sensing his mood, gave a simple, honest answer, "Yes."
Ellis clenched his hand tightly at that reply.
But in the end, he said nothing.
His mother suddenly bringing him trouble.
Two other maids who tried to poison him.
The head maid trying to take Silas away.
The one behind her... someone he still didn’t know.
And then, Galen, who now seemed to be someone different than he thought.
It was as if the whole world had turned against him today.
But strangely, it didn’t affect him the way it had earlier. Not like at the start, when the maids came.
No.
Now, it simply made him realize how naive he had been, about the society he was in.
It made him realize how alone he truly was...
Except for Silas.
She was the only one on his side. And he would treasure her more because of it.
He still didn’t say anything to her, not a single word about revenge, or justice though.
But his actions would say it later.
They would say everything.
Ellis quietly vowed. To repay everyone. Whether it was their kindness...
Or their enmity.
