Chapter 78- Curse You, Monster

The summit, or in other words, the Hunters Summit, is an event that occurs every ten years where all the clan heads of all the Vampire Hunters arrive in one location to discuss the current affairs of the world and vote on important decisions for the future. It was the most important, unknown event in the world where the fate of all humanity was gambled with in the hands of a few dozen people.

Usually, this summit is a celebration of the Vampire Hunter world and the powers working within it. However, this time, it was very different, and that was for one simple reason... The Historic Deal. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

It was an idea suggested by a patriarch of another family, and its basis is that humanity should sit down at the negotiation table with the vampires and strike a deal or perhaps sign a peace treaty so that both sides would stop the bloodshed.

It was naturally a very controversial idea that received criticism and was refused by many. However, there were also people who sided with that idea, and their arguments for that weren’t completely null.

They argued that the world can’t bear more deaths and destruction and that at this rate, they were heading to another war on a way bigger scale than in ancient times. Meanwhile, the side that refused the deal argued that it was simply impossible to reason with vampires and that they were the force of evil, and showing them good will will only make them want to hurt humans more.

Fiona herself was with the side of those who outright refused that deal. Her dad’s stance was similar, but from what she noticed, he didn’t outright refuse it, which confused her even more.

In any case, years passed, and out of nowhere, at that moment, her father announced that they had reached an agreement to pass this deal.

’What? How could he let this happen?’ Fiona looked down, ignoring the arguments being thrown everywhere around her. ’You have told me before. That you will never do such a thing.’

As much as she knew her father was a big liar and a bastard through and through, she thought he at least carried the same hatred toward Vampires that she carried. Yet, shockingly, that wasn’t the case. If her father refused the deal, it would not been passed as his vote outweighs most other votes, and even politically, nobody wants to get on Geralt’s bad side because of something as ambiguous as this.

"Quiet." Geralt finally spoke after a moment, sending a strong wave of energy across the room that made everyone go silent in an instant. "As I said, this deal is yet to be fully accepted. However, I am almost certain it will be."

"Aren’t we against this, Lord Geralt?" Brutus asked. "We are completely against those wicked monsters being our allies or even worse... Befriending them."

The young man had boldly asked the question everyone there wanted to ask without fear. Brutus was very useful in these situations since he basically had no filter over his mouth.

Geralt looked at him before he put his hand on the table, showing the golden rings on his fingers, of which there were 6.

"It is far more complicated than merely being with or against vampires. This deal has its upsides and downsides. In our case, it won’t harm or benefit us. What matters to us is that we protect our interests and keep our territories safe, something we have done for hundreds of years."

"Are you going to vote for or against, my lord?"

Then, the most important question arrived, the one that made Fiona look up, waiting for the man to reply. A part of her wished to hear the hard No, but deep down, she had already reached a conclusion that the rest didn’t.

"I..."

She closed her eyes for a moment.

"Will be voting for."

Everyone stared at the man with awe in their eyes. Some were confused, some were shocked, and some were simply speechless.

"F-For what reason, my lord?" One finally found the strength to ask.

"We will be able to stop more bloodshed."

"..." Fiona’s lips quivered.

"And we will save more of our soldiers and Hunters from unnecessarily risking their own lives."

"..."

Each word he said was like a knife stabbing into Fiona’s heart. A betrayal of the greatest degree. It took all her strength not glare daggers at him. However, at that moment, Geralt said something that shattered all the mental resistance Fiona tried to muster up.

"Vampires are conscious creatures, and they can be our allie-"

Before Geralt could even finish that sentence.

*SLAM*

Fiona suddenly slammed her hand on the table loudly, catching everyone’s attention.

"..."

"..."

"..."

Silence took over the room as Fiona slowly stood up and looked at Geralt. The old man stared back at her, almost a bit amused.

"Allies? Since when did the great Geralt Vaylor start thinking so naively?" Fiona asked calmly as she stared at him. "You of all people should know how wrong that is."

"Times change, Fiona. You are not here to judge what I do. Your role is to simply follow the clan’s leader." He replied.

"Oh, I would never dare. However, I am simply questioning the man who claimed he would eradicate all the vampires from the face of the earth. Isn’t that how you became the Patriarch of this clan? Are we selling lies now, father?" She asked again with deep sarcasm in her tone.

Her words were respectful, but looking at their content, they were extremely disrespectful. So much that everyone there stared at her with eyes so wide they were almost coming out of their sockets.

’L-Lady Fiona?! What are you doing?!’ Brutus could barely stop himself from choking on his own saliva. This was extremely ridiculous. Talking to the strongest man in the world in that tone, even as his daughter, was insanity.

Surprisingly, Geralt didn’t seem to be angered.

"And who said I wouldn’t achieve such a goal? This deal is but another way to do it. One that requires less blood and more reasoning."

"Reasoning with the same monsters who did those things to you? Hm." Fiona said as she smiled coldly, her rage boiling within her eyes. "Do I even need to say it, father? You are growing weak. Soft and weak."

"Fiona." He spoke, cutting her off harshly as his aura all fell on her shoulders. The girl felt her entire body shake under that immense pressure. She couldn’t even breathe properly, but even then, she didn’t break eye contact with her father.

"You may leave." He said with an authoritative tone.

Fiona clenched her teeth subtly before she turned around and walked out of the room without thinking twice. She knew if she stayed there longer, she would only have a pointless argument with that man. He was as stubborn and as hard-headed as she was, if not worse. She sadly got that quality from him.

Closing the door behind her, Fiona walked far away from the room, and when she finally took the turn, she stopped for a second.

*SMASH*

Her fist slammed into the wall, leaving a clear crack in it the size of her fist. Her face was so cold and angry that it would’ve been unrecognizable to anyone close from her.

"Curse you, monster."
