My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World-Chapter 379: The Misty Town, Nebbia
Chapter 379: The Misty Town, Nebbia
When Melina and her group were finished talking with the King of Vista, they were given a vague location of where the relic was located.
It was supposed to be to the south of the nation, in the only part of their land that had perpetual snow falling down.
Luckily, the people of Vista were adopting the teleportation magic quartz to quickly travel between cities, as they wanted to improve their national trade.
Merchants and government officials had primarily been using the magic quartz, and while Melina would have enjoyed having some leisure time to tour the country, they were in a rush.
After saying their farewells to the royal family, the group took the magic quartz and teleported to a town called "Nebbia."
They appeared inside a villa’s room, which was quite small for the number of people traveling with the silver-haired sage.
Two knights wearing gladiator armor quickly entered the room when they heard the sounds of Melina’s party, and they were shocked to see Athena and her cub. Still, the princess calmed them down and explained her situation.
She pulled out a document with the king’s signature that allowed Melina’s party to cross the gate to the south, and the knights seemed to doubt her skills at first.
They couldn’t believe that a young woman like Melina was one of the supposed sages that had been fighting the devils around the world, and as they muttered their doubts to each other, Arashi got visibly annoyed.
Melina didn’t mind the knights’ comments as long as she got to cross the gate to the south with no problem. Still, Arashi didn’t enjoy it when other people called her master weak and stood before the two knights with a cold and condescending gaze.
"That young woman is my contracted master..." she muttered, making the two knights tremble momentarily.
"A-apologies!" they replied in unison while bowing their heads.
"It’s fine, Arashi—Can you please quickly guide us to the gate?" Melina interjected with a gentle tone, making the two guards gaze at her with admiration.
The villa they appeared in was the property of a government official. However, the family had been living in the capital, so it was used whenever they had to go for business.
The town of Nebbia had an architecture that was very similar to the one at the capital, which Melina compared to an old European style, with most of the buildings being two-story houses where they would have their stores on the first floor and their rooms on the second.
Still, one thing she noticed was the abundance of light posts, which were lit up every night by the guards using fire magic.
There were similar light posts in pretty much every country, but the town of Nebbia easily had triple what other cities had—and it was a much smaller town than any of the ones that genuinely needed illumination at night.
The guards explained that while Nebbia was beautiful, it had a problem where the mist from the south would shroud their town.
Even so, Melina didn’t see the problem, as having mist every once in a while in certain areas was common.
When the guards elaborated, they said that the mist could sometimes last for days, and it was so thick that it genuinely made it difficult for people to see a few meters ahead of them.
Luckily for them, the day was cloudy, but no mist had reached the town yet, so it made their walk to the southern gate much more enjoyable.
The wall separating the town of Nebbia from the frozen wastes was as tall as the wall that contained the capital of Guanghua. Nevertheless, Melina and her group could feel the temperature dropping just by getting closer to it.
"Good luck out there..." said one of the guards after opening the gate and letting them through.
After crossing, one of the first things they did was rest and eat since Melina heard Apollo’s growling stomach.
The frozen waste was a completely flat area, and they were able to see quite far into the distance, with the only hills visible made out of ice.
The lack of any vegetation or mountains made the winds feel a lot stronger, but the party kept themselves warm with their enchanted clothing.
"Alright, Arashi—where should we begin?" Melina asked her companion.
The dragon that was meant to be taking care of the relic was Arashi’s brother, the Ice Dragon, and she was able to locate him due to their bond.
Nonetheless, while Arashi could feel her brother’s energy all over the area, she couldn’t pinpoint his exact location.
"We need to look around. Everyone, hop on," Arashi commented, prompting her to turn into her largest and majestic dragon form, which could reach up to 20 meters up if she extended her neck.
"Nessa, let me know if you feel anything strange, too..." said Melina.
"Mhmm, I will," the friendly devil replied, pumping her fist with confidence.
When the group mounted Arashi’s back, the dragon started flying at an incredible speed, which caught the whole party by surprise, making them tighten their hold on her scales.
After flying for twenty minutes without a destination, the mist appeared, and it enveloped all of the frozen wastes, making it impossible for the group to look at what was below them.
"Hmm, so that’s the mist the guards were talking about..." Arashi said as she inspected the grey cloud below them.
"Looks strange, right?" replied Melina.
"That’s because it’s not natural... My brother’s scent is all over that mist," the dragon continued.
She explained that she couldn’t track her brother as long as the mist was enveloping the area since her senses were telling her that he was everywhere.
"So, is he using the mist to hide?" Melina pondered aloud.
"That wouldn’t be like him... Something must have threatened him severely to have him do this," replied Arashi, slowly descending back to the ground.
Nighttime had fallen on the group, and without being able to continue their search with the active mist, they decided to rest and wait for it to disperse.
