Chapter 380: The Ice Dragon’s Trial

Early in the morning, Melina woke up sleeping next to Athena and Apollo, whom she had used during the night as a pillow.

The princess ended up raising a small shack for everyone to sleep in with a fire enchantment to keep it warm, and they were happy to see that the day was totally clear, with barely any clouds in the sky.

Relishing the opportunity, the group quickly mounted Arashi’s back after having a quick breakfast and began their search.

It took them a few hours, and Melina was starting to feel like they had scouted the entire frozen waste from how fast they were going until Arashi abruptly stopped mid-air.

"What’s wrong?" Melina asked her companion.

"There..." the dragon replied, focusing her vision on a tilted tower in the distance, which was barely visible as there was snow and ice covering half of it.

It was the only structure that the group had seen in the area, and even if the dragon weren’t there, Melina would have thought it was worth checking out either way.

Still, even though Arashi kept flying towards it, the tower didn’t seem to get any closer.

After ten minutes of flying straight, Melina told Arashi to stop, as she felt like they hadn’t even moved from their last position.

"Is this an illusion?" the princess pondered aloud.

Wanting to test her theory, she opened up her void pocket and pulled out the potions that Ichiro had created to nullify the effects of the illusions.

He made them so people would be able to cross the Illusive Forest, but then he also created the magic lamps that nullified the illusions along the stone trail.

When she gave a potion to each, it was as if an invisible veil they had around them burned, allowing them to see the real landscape of the frozen wastes and prompting Arashi to resume her flight.

When they got closer to the tower, Arashi had to descend from the skies as the icy wind didn’t allow her to continue.

The dragon explained that the winds were produced by his brother since Arashi wouldn’t have had a problem otherwise.

On the ground, Melina used ice magic to remove the thick layer of snow covering the ground, making their walk to the tower a bit easier.

In terms of height, the princess compared the tower to a skyscraper from her old world, except thinner and slightly tilted to the side.

Still, once they went around the building, they realized there was no entrance.

"I believe the entrance should be under us..." Arashi commented.

"Under?" Melina wondered aloud.

When inspecting the tower closer, she noticed it looked as if the bottom part of it had been buried.

"I get it!" she exclaimed, using her ice magic to melt the ten-meter wall of ice blocking the entrance.

The tower had no doors, but the inside of the first floor didn’t have a speck of snow on the ground as a thin magic veil prevented it from getting in.

There were large ice crystals on the side fused with MP, slightly illuminating their surroundings, and the atmosphere was much warmer than the outside—although still cold.

"Only one!" said the voice of a young man, echoing loudly in the room.

Melina and her group stood alert, scanning the area and looking for the voice’s origin—except for Arashi, who instantly recognized the voice.

"He is saying only one person can take the trial..." the dragon commented, making the entire group turn their heads towards Melina.

Nevertheless, the silver-haired princess wasn’t intimidated, as she could only think about regrouping with Ichiro.

"Understood!" she exclaimed, directing her words to the absent dragon.

On the side of the room, a small doorway opened up, which would have led the person going through it to the outside if it were a normal door. However, there was a blue light on the other side of the frame that didn’t let them see where it took.

"I’ll be back," said Melina to her companions before going through the magic door.

As the blue light blinded her momentarily, she opened her eyes back up and found herself in a room similar to the first.

Ice crystals illuminated part of it, but she still couldn’t detail the full room, making her use light magic.

"Reach the top, sage..." said the voice of the ice dragon, followed by an earthquake that shook the ground momentarily.

Suddenly, the same ice crystals that were used for illumination blew up and shattered, producing humanoid beings that resembled knights wearing armor made of ice entirely. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

Melina only had to defeat two ice knights on the first floor, which she destroyed using wind magic to shatter their bodies.

’They are pretty tough...’ she thought, noting that she had to use double the amount of MP than usual to beat them with one spell.

The second magic door opened up right after the second knight was destroyed, leading her to another room that, once again, resembled the past two.

With each new floor, one knight was added to the pool of enemies she had to fight, and after four hours, she managed to reach the 50th floor, where she had to defeat fifty ice knights.

After the door to the 51st floor opened up, Melina drank an MP potion and asked aloud how many more rooms she had to go through, but the dragon didn’t reply.

Still, after she crossed the door’s threshold and appeared on the next floor, she noticed the ice crystals were now ruby red, and the MP flowing from them was much stronger than the previous ones.

’I got a bad feeling...’ she thought, followed by the explosion and shattering of the red ice crystals.

The ice knight that was created from them had a larger body build, they were much taller, and their armor looked sturdier and more intimidating as they had spikes on their shoulder pads.

*sigh* "Okay... We start back again from one," Melina muttered, opening her void pocket and taking out her estoc.
