Chapter 64: Alone

Still in the middle of the Snow Wolf Dungeon, a large beast was panting in exhaustion. A small human stood beside him; his body showed no sign of weariness. It didn’t even look alive and was more reminiscent of a statue.

"Huff...Huff... What the hell are you boy?"

"Your future son-in-law. Give up already. This is pointless."

Bastion quickly rolled to his side and shakily tried to stand up, "Shut your mouth you demon. Bianca has yet to agree. And so long as she has not, as her father I cannot give her to you."

Elian swung his sword and gently poked Bastion on his shoulder.

In one devastating crash the Alpha fell to his side. Although Bastion’s eyes had yet to give up, his body would no longer move.

"Just accept it father-in-law. You are weak as hell. I could have killed you a hundred times by now. Your size and mass are not enough to overwhelm me, you simply are not my match."

"Don’t call me that. Tsk. I just need rest. When I get back up, I will beat you into a bloody pulp."

Elian groaned and pulled out a potion from his magic bag. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say."

He opened the cork and brought it to Bastion’s mouth to drink.

"I don’t need your help, you inhumane bastard!"

"Sigh. You remind me of my dad. Despite your worry of the church coming here, you have wasted all this time with this pointless struggle," Elian complained.

"So? What if I did? Even if they arrived, would you allow the humans to take my daughters?"

"No. I would butcher every last one of them."

Bastion coughed. A weak grin split his muzzle, "See? Then I can take all the time I want."

"..."

While Elian wondered if he should beat his father-in-law more, Bianca and Silent approached them. He was quick to notice that Bianca’s eyes seemed even more puffed up that before. Quickly he left the downed Alpha and walked towards his Anchor.

As he came closer Bianca’s face flushed and grew restless. Silent amused, began to wag her tail like a dog. She eyed Bianca before whispering.

"Good luck, Daughter. I assure you it will work," she chuckled.

Silent then broke out into a run and quickly went to Bastion.

"MOM!"

Bianca’s flustered reaction seemed extremely affectionate. And while Elian felt nothing, he knew it was something that should be celebrated.

Elian came closer and reached for Bianca’s face. She froze. He gently traced his thumb beneath her eye and commented, "You cried again."

But expectedly she smiled, she then cradled her cheek in Elian’s hand, "I did. But I am really happy right now."

"I see. That is good."

Bianca’s smile faltered at his reply. But she shook her head and puffed up her cheeks as if bracing for something. Her eyes focused on Elian like a predator.

The witch then brought her face toward the left side of Elian’s neck and licked him. It was slow, sensual and radiated with affection.

"..."

Confused, Elian stood still.

Bianca then gazed at him with eyes of desire while kissing the center of his face. When she was finished, the witch quickly pulled away.

"T-That was Fralhame’s kiss of the huntress."

"The what?"

"Girl’s do it to.... they do it to... AH! I can’t! Just ask Mom! STUPID ELIAN!"

Abruptly, Bianca disappeared—her soul presence vanishing with her. Elian still confused turned his head and saw his in-laws making different faces.

Silent had a large smile on her face. Bastion grimaced in anger.

I really need to get someone to tell me about Fralhame’s culture.

Elian approached them and asked.

"Mother-in-law, what does the kiss of the huntress mean?"

But Bastion was the one who answered, "Nothing! It means absolutely nothing. Let’s just move on. Ah!"

Wincing in pain, Bastion moved his paw. Silent’s fierce stomp practically deformed it. "Dear, please remain silent for a bit."

Despite being smaller Elian noticed Bastion shrink back from his smiling wife.

Heh, she’s got you whipped.

Silent turned to Elian as she began to explain, "Put simply, it’s one of our courting rituals. When a male expresses interest in a female, the females are given a choice. Give the kiss of the huntress or the kiss of the crone."

"From the terms I should be happy I didn’t get the kiss of the crone, right?"

"Yes, Son-in-law you should be glad. The kiss of the huntress means that my daughter is interested in you. And has claimed you to be her mate." Silent cheerfully explained. "Should anyone try to steal you away, Bianca has publicly declared that she will thrash them all."

Her tail is practically spinning like a fan; she must be happy.

"No, she didn’t! It means she hates you! Definitely—AHHH!"

Elian stared at how Silent buried razor-sharp claws into Bastion’s front paw. If you looked hard enough you would have been able to see the blood flowing outward.

What am I even supposed to do in these situations?

Thinking of the movies Elian watched, when a man comes to his wife’s house, he should present them with treasures and gifts. His mom explained it as showing one’s sincerity.

Raising his hand, Living Metal began to unload all the Red Ant cores into a neat pile. It was the last of them as Fluffy ate the rest. He had Snow Wolf cores but felt it would be insulting to offer them here.

"Mother-in-law. Father-in-law. These are the first of many. They are gifts. They come from one of the dungeon’s Bianca and I cleared. Fluffy liked them, I hope they suit your tastes."

At this declaration, both Bastion and Silent’s eyes turned serious. The joking atmosphere all but disappeared.

"Red Ants? So, they should be insects. Is your mark from their Tyrant? What is the name of their world? What was their rank?"

Elian found the change concerning, but didn’t shrink back.

"Yes. I was the one who killed it. They came from Virexar. Their record was 0 wins and 0 losses. Rank was Iron."

Silent grimaced, "Son-in-law what do you plan to do with them?"

"Huh? What do you mean Mother-in-law?"

"Almost all of Insect worlds that join the crucible are hunter broods. That means they are aggressive, vindictive and ruthless. What Silent means is that now that you gave them their first defeat. They will come for Earth. Again, and again until one side is wiped out."

At his words Elian’s mind froze.

He himself understood the reality of the Celestial Crucible. But despite revealing he just begun an eternal death match with an alien race, Elian simply nodded.

"That is fine. They can come as many times as they want to. I need the material."

"M-Material?" Silent asked confused.

Elian stretched out his hand and black fluid gushed from his feet and spread out into the forest. Living Metal looked like a shadow that devouring all it touched.

"My Job is Living Metal. I am able to consume anything with mana and turn it into material. I can shape it anyway I please like clay. But it does get destroyed with enough abuse. The vast sea of material you see before you is the legacy of the Red Swarm."

"S-Son-in-law, does that mean that you did the same thing to every Snow Wolf you encountered till now? You ate them and turned them into your weapons?"

Silent’s voice cracked. Her body language turned standoffish. Her eyes trembled. And sadly, Elian understood why. The more he grew, the more he noticed. His power came at a price. And it was something few had the stomach for.

"Yes," he answered curtly.

"Bastard. Am I to understand that you have no limit and intend to genocide your way until you win?"

Funnily enough, now it was Bastion who looked at him with respect.

"Or until they leave me alone."

"I see. Then that is fine," he answered.

"Dear! T-This is too much! He is going to trample on the lives of thousands maybe even millions!"

But Bastion held firm and nuzzled his wife.

"Silent, my beloved. This is the type of mentality that is required of a tyrant. And I am for one glad that someone like him is on our side. He will protect our family. Better than we ever could."

"But...What would be left of him after all the wars and death! My children deserve to be happy! Who could smile upon bathing in the blood of entire civilizations! You are right! We should just run away! There is no way I can allow this to happen! Not to my family! I-I..."

Silent stopped and gazed behind Elian. Her eyes were trembling and her face grimaced. The black knight didn’t’ even need to turn around to know why.

For a familiar presence came forward. Her voice was resolute and without fear.

"Do not worry Mom. Elian will not break. Nor will he lose. I will not let him. As his Anchor I will never allow him to face all of this alone."

"Daughter, the galaxy has horrors we cannot even hope to comprehend. Do you still wish to do so? You might die," Silent begged.

Yet Elian felt Bianca grab his hand and intertwined her fingers within his.

"Yes, Mom. I am sure."
