Chapter 113: The Coming Battle

"Prioritize attacking ninjas outside of Konoha. Once the strike is complete, retreat immediately."

Aboard the warships cutting swiftly through the waters toward the Land of Waves, both the Fourth Raikage and the Third Tsuchikage issued simultaneous orders to their elite ninja troops.

They were finally putting their sabotage plan into action—an operation designed to disrupt the alliance forming in the Land of Waves.

With well-placed spies hidden among the various factions, they had intimate knowledge of deployment patterns across the Land of Waves. Using this intel, they crafted a precise and calculated series of attacks aimed at crippling the alliance from within.

Because at its core, war isn’t just about bloodshed—it’s about achieving goals. Be they military, political, or economic, wars begin and end with objectives in mind. When one side reaches their target, the war ends. In some cases, if no side can achieve its goals, compromise becomes the only option.

"If we successfully disrupt Konoha’s alliance, the Land of Lightning is prepared to join forces with the Land of Earth," the Fourth Raikage said, arms crossed as he stared ahead at the misty horizon.

"Once we seize control of the alliance initiative, we’ll be the ones redrawing the map of the ninja world."

His tone brimmed with ambition, as if he already saw the world kneeling at their feet.

"Let’s hope it works out that way," Ohnoki muttered, skeptical but unwilling to voice his full doubts. The Raikage’s overconfidence worried him, but the operation had already been set in motion.

"It’s unfortunate the Hidden Mist Village didn’t respond to our invitations. If we had the Water Country’s support, this campaign would have been nearly risk-free."

He sighed. Since isolating itself, the Water Country had refused all diplomatic contact. No messages got in or out.

Konoha had made the first move no one expected: uniting a web of nations through tangible benefits, even among those who previously distrusted each other. That plan had to be stopped—both to prevent future coordinated attacks and to steal leadership of the alliance for themselves.

As the combined fleets surged forward, back on land in the ancient castle of the Wave Country, Hyuga Hizashi was already enacting the next phase of Ryosuke’s countermeasures.

Under Ryosuke’s guidance, they had tracked down another leader of the Seagull Shipping Chamber of Commerce.

Or rather, another Gato.

The name wasn’t exclusive. It was a title passed between candidates. The man Akutagawa killed had only been a potential successor.

"He may be a candidate, but he’s still qualified to represent the Chamber. Keep that quiet," Ryosuke had instructed.

Hinata Hizashi didn’t understand how Ryosuke knew these details, but his trust was unwavering.

"I’m sure you’ve all realized by now—our alliance plans have been exposed," Hizashi announced to the gathered representatives.

Though Konoha had sent Homura as their official delegate, it was Hizashi who stepped forward, calm and collected.

"I understand many of you don’t trust Konoha. Some believe we staged these attacks ourselves. But please remember—you were attacked on your way here, and yet you came anyway. That alone proves your own determination, just as ours brought us here, prepared to face any threat." freēnovelkiss.com

He paused, meeting every gaze in the room.

"Gato’s death is just the beginning. The enemy behind this won’t stop. More attacks will come, and they won’t be subtle. So I ask you, please—stay. Finish this meeting. Give us one last chance to stand together before the storm truly begins."

Convincing hardened diplomats with words alone was never going to work.

But Hizashi’s sincerity shifted the atmosphere. A heavy silence replaced suspicion. The death of Gato had clearly triggered something larger. Everyone could feel it.

"Maki, return to camp and prepare everyone," said Ebizo of the Sand, his aged voice steady and calm.

"But Elder Ebizo—"

"There’s no time. The others are surely sending word to their camps too."

Ebizo didn’t argue further. His tone alone made the decision for them. The rest followed suit, each dispatching messengers to warn their encampments.

"Then... let’s resume the meeting."

Homura stepped forward, finally taking his rightful place. "We’ll save the business details for later. Right now, we need to resolve two things: benefits and costs. Once we agree on a fair division, the alliance must be confirmed—we need unity to face whatever comes next."

He pulled out a chair and sat at the broken wooden table.

"Agreed," said Ebizo, joining him. Together, they lifted the table halves and placed them together.

One by one, representatives from the Land of Iron and the Land of Hot Water followed.

Just hours ago, this alliance was being led from behind the scenes by Gato.

Now, the countries themselves were stepping forward, guiding it with their own hands.

The differences were subtle—but essential.

All preparations were nearly complete. All forces on the island were on high alert.

And far above, hidden in the branches of a towering tree, Ryosuke crouched in silence.

He was recovering his chakra. The mental strain of sustained illusion control and the crushing pressure he used earlier had left him exhausted. For the next battle, he needed to be in top form.

As for Akutagawa...

Ryosuke had already handled him. There would be no body for anyone to find.

"Everything is ready," Ryosuke whispered. His eyes glinted with clarity as he gazed toward the southern coastline.

"It’s almost time for you to arrive."
