New World with Four Husbands-Chapter 649: Crying Coco
"Coco!" Jonathan called, rushing out of the front door to stop his dear friend from landing another punch on the man on the ground.
Renaldo was right on his trail, his face pale at the sight of the man who was a little too still under Coco.
"Coco!" Jonathan called for the second time and lunged towards her, his hand immediately circling around her arm and tugging her backward, making her stumble away from the man and fall against him.
Coco’s back flushed flat on Jonathan’s chest, which made her feel his thundering heartbeat.
Renaldo came forward, his large form coming in front of Coco and blocking her view of the man. "You have to calm down now, Coco. He’s already unconscious. You knocked him out."
The words came out a little harsh, but Coco’s fogged mind didn’t sense it.
"Who is this man anyway?" Jonathan asked, his arms wrapping around Coco and lifting her up, making her lean against him and forcing her face onto his shoulder.
Renaldo turned in his heels and eyed the unconscious man. "I’m not sure.. I haven’t seen him before."
"He’s quite large." Jonathan commented and frowned. "He punched Coco, didn’t he? Yet, look at him laying on the floor after like.. What? Three or four punches from her?"
Coco sniffled, her eyes fluttering shut. "S-Sorry. I didn’t mean to—"
"You don’t have to be sorry." Jonathan quickly cut her off and turned around. "You have nothing to be sorry for, Coco. You were the one who got attacked. It’s your right to beat him unconscious for aiming his fist at you."
"B-But he’s not moving.." Coco mumbled, eyebrows pinching together as she stared at the unconscious man until he disappeared from her sight when Jonathan turned into the living room doorway. "Is he even alive..? Oh god, what if I killed him—"
"You didn’t." Jonathan cut her off, putting her down on the couch. "In fact, I believe that killing him would be the best choice."
Coco’s head snapped up, eyes wide. "What? Why?"
"Because he’s no ordinary man, Coco." Jonathan grumbled, his tone sounding more like matter-of-fact. "I think you have forgotten that I was once a commissioner. I do things for random people who would hire me and no, I didn’t join the mercenary guild."
"T-Then..?"
"I have encountered a couple of handful people like him." Jonathan stated as he crouched down in front of her and held her hands on his his. "I have seen them kill someone because their client paid them to do it."
Coco sniffled. "You haven’t killed anyone yet, right?" 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"No." Jonathan answered, shaking his head a second after the words left his lips. "Would you like me to?"
"No—" Coco shook her head fervently, eyes wide in horror and surprise. "I can’t stomach the thought of having you killing anyone, so why would you bother asking that question? That’s absurd!"
"You asked me." The scarred mediator pointed like he was pointing out a simple error of a child. "Is it wrong of me to believe that you wanted me to have me dirty my hands with human blood? Because from the sound of it, you were disappointed."
Okay, she could sense that Jonathan is teasing her, but she can’t stop the horror from crawling on her veins.
"Me? I would never!" Coco gasped, unable to stop herself from protecting her honor.
"I know." Jonathan hummed and gave her hands a squeeze. "But still, my point stands, okay? I believe that killing him would have been the best choice."
Coco’s gaze lowered, her lips curling down. "But killing a human being.."
"Doesn’t sit right with you?" Jonathan hummed, finishing her sentence with a tilt of his sentence. "I know, Coco. I know. I won’t force it on you, so we’ll just hand him over to the knights."
"To the knights?" Coco perked up, her eyes shifting back to Jonathan’s face.
"Yes." The mediator nodded his head and slowly stood up, his back straightening as he turned to look at the doorway. "I’m quite certain that Renaldo is already dragging the unconscious man towards the street."
"Sorry." Coco apologized, her heart feeling heavy with guilt. "I probably looked like a monster out there.. There were a lot of people, too.."
"Don’t worry about that." Jonathan stated firmly, his hand moving to plant themselves on her head. "If it gets serious because of them, then we’ll just have to give a statement and leave the main city."
"What—"
"I heard the north is a good place to start a new life." Jonathan hummed, his gaze fixing to her face. "I don’t know about Jacques and Renaldo, but if you want to move there, then I’ll be right behind you and your husbands."
Coco’s lips parted in shock, not expecting such words from her friend.
"You’ll do that for me?" Coco mumbled, her eyes becoming glossy once again. "Really? For real? No jokes or take backs?"
"Yes, I’m not joking." Jonathan quickly kneeled down again and got onto her eye level, beads of sweat emerging on his forehead at the sight of the unshed tears on Coco’s eyes. "Come on, you have to stop crying. You don’t want your mother to come back to you crying, do you?"
"So what if I see her crying like this?"
Coco and Jonathan jumped in their spots when they heard Cleora’s voice, their heads whipping towards the doorway with wide eyes.
"I saw Renaldo outside." The older woman stated, eyes narrowed at her daughter. "I heard from him that he suddenly attacked you, so I’m going to bring him to the north to question him further about what he got on you."
"The north?" Jonathan repeated, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. "Why take him there? The city knights can take care of him, ma’am—"
"Because the Baroness wouldn’t dare make a move on my territory." Cleora answered him and didn’t let him finish his question. "I had Leo tie him up tightly and had him throw him inside the wagon."
