Chapter 648: Throwing punches

Knock.

Knock.

Knock.

The rhythmic tapping on the front door reached the ears of the three, making them simultaneously turn their heads towards the living room doorway.

"I’ll get it." Coco scrambled to get up, breath caught in her throat.

She took the chance to get away from Renaldo’s scrutinizing gaze because she’s afraid that he might be right with his questions— what if Corinne and Carina did want to do something, but couldn’t do it because they died, too?

The thought of her being the reason for their goals crashing on the ground made her extremely upset.

"Keep seated." Coco muttered, not bothering to wait for the mediators to respond and quickly made her way towards the front door.

Renaldo and Jonathan merely shared a glance, but Jonathan was looking at the other mediator with a disappointed stare, the kind of stare that says are you serious? You crossed a line.

Renaldo could only frown and lower his head, feeling ashamed of himself.

Coco, on the other hand, pressed her forehead on the wooden door to calm her beating heart— she didn’t mean to come off as rude towards her friends, but she was afraid at the thought that Renaldo might be right.

He’s right. Coco grumbled in her mind, fluttering her eyes closed. I’m a selfish person.

Knock.

Knock.

Knock—

Coco didn’t wait for the third knock to be planted firmly against the wooden surface and swung the door open.

"Good day to you, madame." An unfamiliar man stood before her, his large physique towering over her smaller form. "May I share the good news about the kindness of the fairies of this world?"

Coco blinked and craned her neck up to look at the man in the eye, then she looked past him.

She eyed the open gate, her senses tingling and screaming at her that the man before is not what he seemed— all smile and grin, as if he was a businessman talking to his potential client.

Coco forced her eyes back on the man, her gaze narrowing. "I’m not interested."

She blatantly rejected the offer and moved to close the door, but before the door could click shut, a hand shot forward and gripped the door.

"Now, please don’t be like that, madame." The man drawled, his lips pulled into a tight grin. "I’m just here to share the good news about the fairies. Won’t you listen?"

"I’m telling you that I’m not interested." Coco grunted out, shooting a menacing glare towards him. "Please leave. If you don’t stop this nonsense, I will have no choice, but to act out of self defense and kick you out of my gates myself."

She never thought that she would encounter situations like this.

She thought this kind of event only happens back on Earth where people felt a little too entitled to be doing shits that will land them in trouble, but who would have known?

"Kick me out of the gates?" The man repeated while tilting his head, the sight making Coco’s body hair prick. "The Baroness never said anything about getting kicked out.. How dare you disobey the Baroness’ orders?"

The moment Coco heard the word Baroness, only one person came to mind.

"Baroness Hughes?" Coco blinked, eyes wide.

Her heart dropped to her stomach. Did the Baroness have enough of stalking and decided to just kidnap her in her own home?

Before Coco could dwell deeper into her thoughts, the man moved and suddenly lunged forward.

Coco’s breath got caught in her throat, but she was a little too late in reacting and had received a punch from the man before her.

Coco’s body flew across the hall, her oxygen leaving her lungs for a moment before she crashed into the end of the hall, her back colliding on the wooden surface with a sickening crack.

Coco twitched, her breathing rushing back and she scrambled to get back on her feet.

The moment she stood up, her eyes swept to the living room doorway and caught a glimpse of Renaldo freezing up behind the couch, causing her heart to beat hard inside her chest.

She forced her gaze back onto the attacker and didn’t let the man enter the house— she quickly came barreling towards him and slammed her whole body against his large frame.

Now, Coco is not used to fighting humans and she doesn’t have the heart to threaten them with her strength, but with Renaldo and Jonathan being in the vicinity of the dangerous person before her, she didn’t have any choice.

"I asked you nicely, sir." Coco grunted out as she got back on her feet, but when she noticed the man was already trying to catch his breath, she didn’t waste any time and jumped on him— arm bent and aiming her elbow on his chest to ensure that he would stay down.

"Argh!" The man coughed loudly, earning looks from the passerby and having them take a peak through the open gates.

"I told you to get out of my property nicely!" Coco raised her voice and made sure that the eavesdropper would clear up the possible misunderstanding that might take root because of this incident.

"But you just had to raise your first and punch me, huh?!" Coco growled, her own hand curled into fist and aimed right at his stomach. "You brute! Do you know how painful it is to have a broken wall fixed?! That will put a dent in my pockets!"

Coco’s fist landed on the man’s abdomen with a dull thump and caused him to flinch hardly.

"I was planning to treat my husbands to a nice restaurant, you know!" Coco hissed, her voice softening ever so slightly. "But you just had to ruin it by breaking our wall!"

Coco only wanted to clear up any misunderstanding from onlookers, but for some reason, she started crying.

"You brute!" Coco cried out, her tears rolling down her cheeks as she proceeded to aim another punch to the man’s stomach.
