Chapter 677: People and boxes

When Cleora and Coco disappeared inside the house, Zaque and the others were left outside.

Jacques and the mediators stared with wide eyes at the house before them, their breath caught in their throats at the strange structure.

This is the first time they had seen an estate built this way.

More often than not, the estate of the nobility has the same blueprint because it was what they deem worthy of their wealth.

Not to mention, the house is far more beautiful than the houses they have seen before.

"The Duchess had this built for Coco?" Jacques asked, unable to trust her thought process at the moment due to the shock that is currently residing in their entire being.

"It seems so.." Zaque mumbled, equally stunned as Jacques and others.

While the eight of them were busy staring at the fantastic sight before them, a wagon stopped behind the carriages they were previously in, then a couple of men and women stepped out.

One of the women approached the group and cleared her throat to get their attention.

It was Jacques who looked away from the house to look at the woman, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion because who would dare try to interrupt them from admiring Cleora’s amazing work?

But she froze.

"My mistress wanted us to give you a warm welcome." The woman spoke up, finally catching the attention of others.

The remaining men and women that exited the wagon approached them as well, each of them carrying a box in their arms.

The woman gestured towards her colleagues with a straight face, or more specifically, towards the boxes in their grasps. "These will be your clothing for tonight. Once the mistress is done showing the abode to the young lady, we will be setting off to the castle."

"Then why are you giving this to us now?" Zaque couldn’t help, but ask.

Shouldn’t they give them their clothing once they got to the castle? Why bother going through all the trouble of giving such a thing while they’re outside?

The woman stared at the red haired mediator for a moment, an unreadable look crossing her eyes before it disappeared behind her eyelids as she closed her eyes, she lowered her head and apologized.

"Forgive me for coming off as rude, my lord." She started, her voice dripping with flat remorse. "However, this was just an order made by the Duchess herself."

Those words made Zaque’s lips press shut and decided to back down for now.

"Put down those boxes behind the carriage." Zaque ordered softly, not wanting to cause unnecessary tension between Cleora’s people and him, possibly dragging everyone else if the tension would worsen into something bigger.

"Understood." The woman nodded her head, keeping her gaze low to keep a respectful stance.

Just like that, the mediators and Jacques grew wary.

Zaque had a point. If Cleora wanted something done for them or to them, then she would have told them or asked them herself.

Something suspicious is going on. Zaque thought, his eyes narrowing as he watched the people load the boxes at the back of the wooden vehicle and fasten it in place by wrapping it with a thick rope.

As if backing his wariness, Cleora and Coco walked out the gates— making the people flinch audibly in their spots.

Cleora and Coco were laughing, but the moment they saw the people tying the boxes in place, the two of them stopped and approached, their smiles stilling in place.

"What’s this?" The older woman asked as she let go of her daughter’s hand.

The woman who approached Zaque quickly lowered her head in Cleora’s presence, going as far as kneeling down before her and keeping her head unbelievably low.

Sensing that something was amiss, Coco turned to her husbands and friends.

"Get yourselves inside of Jacques’ carriage." Coco whispered to them, her eyes glued to the men and women who stayed standing behind the woman, but had their heads lowered.

Then, she forced her gaze on Konoha. "Protect them for me, lovely."

The feline mewled and simply started strutting her way to the carriage, catching the attention of the men and women, making them look up for a moment before dragging their gazes back on the ground.

Coco and Cleora waited until the others had entered the carriage before Cleora whistled.

The shrill sound echoed in the chilling night and alarmed the people in front of the two of them, because they knew that they were screwed.

"I admire your brazenness." Cleora commented with a small smile, her eyes glued on the woman who scrambled to get on her feet and bring out a blade from below her skirt, which was a little rusty.

"Y-You.." One of the men stuttered, eyes wide. "You knew?"

"Who wouldn’t know?" Coco retorted with a huff, her eyes skimming through the small group. "You’re incredibly suspicious, you know? You’re lucky that me and mama aren’t jumping on you all right now."

Cleora snorted. "Right, you’re quite lucky."

As they speak, the group didn’t notice that men clad in dark cloaks had started to emerge from the shadows— from the alleyway, the houses a few meters away from Coco’s new house.. They emerged upon hearing the signal of their ruler.

"Screw that, you madwoman!" One of the women at the back hissed, her hold on her blade tightening as she dashed through her colleagues.

Her movement was shockingly fast for someone who didn’t look like it, but Coco was faster.

She brought her unbreakable hoe out of her inventory and lunged forward to get in front of her mother, her farming tool already halfway through the air and was aiming right on the woman’s upper body.

The woman saw Coco’s hoe smacking against her limb before she felt the pain, and due to how strong Coco was, the strength of the impact sent her flying towards the sleek fence of Coco’s house with a sickening crack following shortly.

Cleora laughed. "That’s my daughter!"
