Night Monarch's Cannon Fodder Bride-Chapter 46: A Predator Seeing Its Prey
Secretly heaving a sigh of relief that her dear friend hadn’t developed any psychological issues and started liking a lunatic, Alina finally focused on the food piled high on her plate.
In her absentmindedness, she had grabbed a bit too much.
"Don’t waste food."
"Oh," Alina grumbled before shoving the toast into her mouth. "Hmm. It’s tasty. Wanna have a bite?"
Severine gave her a blank look, and Alina sheepishly chuckled. "I-I’ll eat it myself."
Was it her imagination, or was Severine showing more emotions lately?
No... not emotions, but disdain.
"How was your business deal? You must have earned a lot, right?" she couldn’t help but ask again.
Deal... A handsome face with black hair and red eyes flashed in Severine’s vision.
I got molested, almost kidnapped, and ended up in a pervert’s bed. Crashed in Killian Rhett King’s secret manor. Stayed there for a week. Stuck mid-Awakening. And received a proposal from the grandson of the country’s leader...
"Yeah, a lot, indeed."
"No wonder," Alina slapped the table, rattling the utensils.
She had learned one crucial thing at the academy. Money is power.
Severine must have earned millions to make her this confident. Although a bit arrogant, it was much better than the bloomy heiress who remained silent like a statue.
She preferred this version.
"You look alive now."
"Alive, huh. I would say wild fits her better." A feminine voice echoed, and Alina’s fingers tightened on her spoon.
Why the fuck did they have to run into this pig sister now?
Severine lifted her gaze, staring at Emily Rhodes dressed in the academy’s uniform. A tint of pink coated her plump lips, tilted in a sneer.
"I think I saw someone carrying you in their arms. You were clinging to them, so I didn’t disturb your passionate night, but..." She placed her dainty hands on the table and leaned forward.
A sharp floral scent hit Severine’s senses. She moved away until her back was pressed against the chair.
A frown settled on her brow.
"I didn’t expect you to entertain two people at once? Which company do they own?"
In just a few words, she had labelled Severine as someone who sold her body for material gains.
"You must have gained quite a favor," a girl with a bob cut said with a smile.
"No wonder Vale Enterprise is soaring high," another girl clicked her tongue in disgust.
Emily’s two minions followed along, saying whatever their mistress wanted to hear.
Hushed whispers had started to echo, pointing at Severine.
What a childish play. Severine mused with a sigh.
Disregarding such provocation, she shook her head at Alina, whose hand had turned red from how tightly she was clenching her fork.
"Are you done?" she asked.
For a moment, Emily fell silent. The anger and disgust she had tried to hide behind her pretty smile became apparent.
"What are you-"
"Yes, I’m done. Shall we leave?" Alina replied with a cheerful voice.
"Hmm. Too noisy."
Alina nearly laughed aloud when Emily’s face twisted into obvious fury.
She slammed her hands on the table. "Who are you calling noisy?"
"A mad dog."
"Pfft... hahaha."
It really wasn’t easy to hold back anymore.
There was a muffled sound of laughter echoing throughout the cafeteria along with Alina’s clear mock coughs.
Silly, heroine. Severine stood up, grabbed her bag, and took a few steps toward the exit.
"You dare..."
"I’ll give your father a call, Miss Rhodes."
At the mention of his father, Emily reigned in her anger. "For what?" she snorted, about to make a remark about begging for investment when Severine’s cold voice reached her ears.
"For the surveillance footage. I was planning to speak with Mr. Rhodes later, but since you witnessed someone attempting to kidnap me..."
Why didn’t you help? Or call for security? Just how malicious are you to let an innocent woman be dragged away by two men?
Such questions arose in everyone’s mind, instantly clearing away the earlier misunderstanding.
After all, they were all aware of the fallout between Severine and Rhodes. With how ruthless the twins were, it wasn’t hard for them to do something like that.
Emily’s face paled.
If something happened to the guests while inside their home, it would be their responsibility to bear.
Anything could happen, except a dirty mark on their reputation. And she had just admitted to seeing the incident.
Thinking of many possibilities, Emily straightened her back. Her lips curled in a smirk, about to mock Severine for spreading lies, when Alina bumped into her back before standing beside Severine.
"Miss Rhodes, my lawyer will give you a call soon."
Call? Emily’s head spun. "For what?"
Watching her panicky eyes, Severine felt a rush of thrill. Her red lips curled into a small smile. "Of course, as evidence. What else? It couldn’t be that you hired those idiots?"
Although her guess was fixed on Damien, there were always other possibilities.
Emily’s sudden arrival and the clear intent to ridicule her were too timely.
What if?
Emily felt cornered, unable to reply, and also unable to keep her temper in.
She grabbed the bowl of soup from the table, something Alina couldn’t finish, and threw it toward Severine.
A thin wrist snapped around Severine’s arm and yanked her aside.
The soup spilled on the floor, splashing a few drops on the nearby students.
Meanwhile, Severine stood beside Alina. As a cat Awakener, the heroine’s reflexes were impressively sharp.
"You! How dare you try to dodge?"
Emily’s words were as ridiculous as ever.
Severine took a deep breath and walked toward Emily.
A bitch like you should know how to behave, Emily Rhodes thought with a smugness. Her lips curled in a delighted smile, her nose lifted higher.
Clown.
Severine grabbed another tray from the neighboring table. "I’m sorry for this. You can use my card for your next meal."
Then she flipped the tray in one smooth motion, dumping its contents over Emily and her stunned minion.
"Ah! What the hell!"
Before Emily could come out of her frenzy, Severine walked away, leaving many different tales in the minds of students.
Ah. That felt... refreshing.
As soon as they were away from Emily’s earshot, Alina buzzed like a bee.
"You aren’t afraid she will cause trouble now? And what was that talk about being kidnapped?"
"Nothing I can’t handle.
As for afraid...
Severine chuckled. As someone standing on the brink of her end, what was there left to fear?
They were about to enter the classroom, only to witness a nightmare.
Damien had his arm inside his pocket, his silver earring glinting like a little sun. And beside him stood Emmett D’Arden.
Their gazes were instantly set on Severine... Like a predator seeing its prey.
