No Trespassing! My Aloof Brother-Chapter 441 - 439: Misconduct Towards Me [4 updates]
Actually, if this had happened a few years ago, Seven would have never swallowed this. She would have fought the lawsuit to the end and gone toe-to-toe with the model until her reputation was completely ruined.
But times have changed. The Murray Corporation is already teetering on the edge of bankruptcy. There’s neither the money nor the time to get embroiled in this mess. Moreover, Seven does need to leverage the model’s fame to slightly enhance the brand’s visibility. So, she has no choice but to take a step back, let the other party off the hook, and let her finish shooting the advertisement.
"As long as it doesn’t affect work, it’s fine," replied Maya nonchalantly, though she was pondering internally that if she and Seven were to clash, who would win? Seven isn’t like Elia or Hartley; she seems pretty formidable.
However, these two won’t have that chance!
After a brief chat, Seven left first. She had just gotten off a plane and came straight here; company matters still needed attending to, so she didn’t linger. Plus, she didn’t want to stay longer, knowing Liam was hospitalized and Christopher would surely come often. She didn’t want to bump into Christopher, remembering that night when he unexpectedly kissed her. That memory still made her uncomfortable, and she increasingly resented seeing his face.
She hadn’t anticipated that upon seeing Christopher again, she’d feel such aversion. Perhaps this is what they call love turned to hate. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Not long after Seven left the ward, Elijah stormed in, visibly furious.
Maya frowned deeply as she watched Elijah’s angry demeanor, quickly rising from her chair to ask, "Elijah, why are you causing such a commotion?"
Hearing Maya’s questioning, Elijah took a deep breath, quickly approached her, grabbed her arm, and lifted her, asking, "Miss, was it Ella who started the fire?"
Maya’s heart skipped a beat. She struggled with her right hand, which he was holding, asking, "Who did you hear this from? It wasn’t Ella."
"Ha, your ears turned red. Looks like Ella really did start the fire." Elijah had once inadvertently heard Liam mention that Maya’s ears would redden when she lied.
Determined that Ella was the culprit, he let go of Maya and turned to leave the ward, clearly intending to find Ella for an explanation.
Seeing the situation, Maya hurried after him, grabbing Elijah’s arm and asking, "Elijah, what are you doing? What do you plan to do?"
"What am I doing? Of course, I’m going to drag Ella to the police station and make her confess." Elijah sharply shook off Maya’s hand. This was the first time he’d treated her so brusquely.
"Elijah, you can’t go! Wait until Liam wakes up before making any decisions. Don’t act recklessly," Maya shouted angrily, taking off her shoe and hurling it at Elijah’s head.
She believes Liam wouldn’t cruelly send Ella to jail once he knows the truth. He will surely uncover the real culprit, ensuring Ella isn’t misunderstood anymore.
Having been hit by Maya’s shoe, Elijah still ignored her and continued on his way.
Seeing that Elijah wouldn’t listen, Maya quickly caught up to him, jumped in front of him, hooked her arms around his neck and wrapped her legs around his waist, threatening, "Elijah, if you dare drag Ella to the police station, I’ll tell Liam that you took advantage of me while he was unconscious."
"Haha! Miss, do you really think BOSS would believe that?" Elijah, seeing her resort to such antics, didn’t even bother to remove her from him, simply letting her act out.
Realizing her tactic wasn’t working, Maya swiftly jumped down, unbuttoning her shirt, saying, "Fine! Go ahead! If you dare go, I’ll strip naked and stand here. I’m curious to see if Liam would mind his future wife being seen by others because of your impulsiveness."
"Miss, stop making a fuss, alright? Ella wanted to burn BOSS alive." Elijah was backed into a corner by the threat.
Not long ago, he had sympathized with Ella and offered to be her brother, frequently checking on her and bringing her food. Yet here she was trying to kill Liam, a transgression Elijah couldn’t swallow.
Seeing Elijah’s spirit dampen, Maya stopped being unreasonable and said considerately, "Elijah, I understand how you feel. I’m upset too; I even slapped Ella that night. But Ethan is gone now. We can’t send Ella to jail. Once the real culprit is found and the truth revealed, things will be okay; Liam will be alright."
"Miss, I’m afraid you might regret this." Elijah’s words were intentionally vague, actually suggesting that Maya would regret knowing the real culprit.
But Maya didn’t catch on. She thought Elijah was saying she’d regret protecting Ella, fearing Ella might one day turn on her.
Quickly, she shook her head and said, "No, no! I won’t regret it. You just need to find the culprit quickly, and all will be well."
Looking at Maya, unaware of the truth, Elijah let out a long breath and said helplessly, "Miss, I’ll promise you not to take Ella to the police for now. Wait until BOSS wakes up before deciding. You go take care of BOSS; I’ll head to the company."
"Mm-hmm! Thank you, Elijah." Over these days, Maya had been so worried she had headaches, not knowing how much she’d have to appease Liam once he woke up so he’d spare Ella.
However, after leaving the hospital, Elijah didn’t head to the company but went straight to Ella’s apartment. Although he promised Maya not to take Ella to the police, he hadn’t promised not to issue a warning to her. After all, nobody knows when the culprit will come to light, nor can anyone predict whether Ella will make a second attempt on Liam’s life.
...
Inside Ethan’s apartment, Ella crouched on the sofa, her arms wrapped around her knees, staring intensely at Ethan’s belongings on the coffee table.
For days, scenes of Liam’s home’s servants desperately fighting the fire and Liam being carried off by medical staff have flooded her thoughts.
She remembers vividly; that night, Maya slapped her and told her to reflect.
She has reflected, and she’s terrified that a life nearly vanished at her hands. But no matter how hard she thinks, she can’t pick out who the culprit might be, nor who might have wanted to kill her brother. After pondering again and again, she started believing what the woman said; Liam controls everything, Liam feared Maya would love Ethan, so he killed her background-less brother.
Yet Maya is firmly certain Liam isn’t the culprit, and she believes Maya. As a result, Ella is nearly breaking down, feeling herself on the brink of insanity.
"Bang... bang... bang..." As she was grappling with indecision, the door to her apartment was suddenly pounded harshly, as though someone intended to break it down.
Hearing the knocking, Ella impatiently jumped off the sofa, quickly walking to the door and peering through the peephole to see who was outside. She saw Elijah, full of rage, standing outside, furiously pounding on her door.
Instantly enraged, Ella swung open the door and shouted angrily at Elijah, "Are you crazy?"
Seeing the door open, Elijah said nothing, reached out to grasp Ella’s neck, pushing her inside and pinning her against the wall.
